I spent a lot of time with chdata on IM when the hack was being worked on. From my impression it was more that he was slightly embarrassed by the poorly optimized asm and plethora of glitches he couldn't figure out.

Probably would have sucked if he handed the boss over to someone else and they figured out what he was stumped on. Especially if that person was alex :p

I would blame poor wording and lack of thinking on my end for this misunderstanding: I was meant to say that technically that level was vanilla, but I forgot to add on that the level is good in that way.

the plan is to wait for Jump to be released and then replacing the graphics without telling anyone involved with Jump.

After seeing all the acrimony and general dysfunction between the A2MT "core team" members that gets dredged up here every two or three pages, why would you want to try? And even if you did, why would you want to name it A3MT and acknowledge that A2MT actually happened? If you were Hollywood and desperate to continue a franchise with a failed entry, the SOP is not to make another sequel but to reboot it. However, that's essentially already been done here. A good case can be made for ASMBXT being a reboot of the whole series, even if it doesn't ignore the previous continuity, because it doesn't draw attention to it anyway. It's kind of like the new Star Trek movies: they're technically not reboots, but they totally are reboots in spirit and practice. Granted, ASMBXT was pretty shitty in parts, but so was ASMT, and neither of them were shitty enough to be dead on arrival. It's possible that one of the A2XT episodes might be shitty enough to can that projected series and leave open space for another reboot, possibly in SMW again, but until then it's obvious which way the Demo games current is running: towards SMBX and away from SMW. SMW collaborative hacking on the Talkhaus is now JUMP's domain.

Oh yeah and the level played today was ridiculously obtuse. Is it that hard to see the ground on a monitor in the very dark section? I watched the episode on my phone and it took me a while to see that the ground was actually a different colour to the background.

"Where am I?" was very pretty level with lots of background details. Different graphics went together well with the recolored enemies. I don't remember where I have seen that tileset before.

^ The former was in one of cyphermur9t's hacks I believe (the cave), and the castle tileset was used in SMWCP's last castle.

The cave graphics are from Demon's Crest and the castle graphics are from Ardy Lightfoot.

ASMWCP and cyphermur9t's Mario Gives Up used the castle graphics in some castle stages, while one of HAIMARI's Hyper まりワールド hacks (Hyper V or Hyper VI, can't remember now) used the cave graphics, I think.

This isn't intended to be rude, but he really should have stayed out of it. I honestly don't know what his role was in the project, besides being one of the level contributors. Sure, he was the "inspiration", but didn't we do that once already? If this was supposed to be a serious project, he should have tried to make it his own and play a major involvement role in its completion, even if it foregoes a "blind LP".

About those videos, alex said me that the problem was that they don't really mean anything. First of all, take a look at all the A2MT videos raocow posted (warning: super long list):

I hope I got them all because it's hard to go look for them; there's no A2MT pre-LP playlist as far as I'm aware.

In hindsight, these announcements are hard to understand and kind of misleading. I think they don't give the viewers an accurate picture of how making the project actually works.
