OK, Overworld is done:

To Answer a few questions:
  • "Castle of No Significance" I added, as a reference both to the Intro Cutscene, and ASMBXT.
  • Most of these extra names were named by Sturg.
  • The Warp Levels are because of a bug in SMBX: If you warp from one area of the overworld to another, SMBX will refuse to play the overworld music unless you change the music (like in world 6). The fix is to put a level in-between. Sturg did the first 2, and I did the rest.
  • "Art Thou Frustrated?" was Sturg's idea. I just expanded on it by actually making it into a level rather than a dead spot on the overworld.
  • I already fixed the cutoffed letter/name for AUS's level.
  • "Abandoned House", "NO VISITORS!!!", and "Nothing to see over here...." were oddities Sturg noticed when testing the overworld (for whatever reason, the game would path out to them). I whipped up those levels so they wouldn't be dead spots on the overworld.
  • Super Happy Bonus Bonanza = Spooky Surprise Ghost House
  • Expect a Download Link Tomorrow morning, when I have more time to upload it.

The overworld looks super neat-o. I love the placement of A Short Stroll.

Yeah, I'm still of the status "volunteered for playtesting", and have a day or two with lots of free time coming up. I'll test well for the case where a player is pretty competent at platforming in general but oblivious to the specifics of the engine. (I haven't spent a ton of time in SMBX as a player or creator, but have always been big into platformers, and I guess I played SMB3 plenty. SMBX has SMB3's physics mostly, doesn't it?)

OK, The Base Game is uploaded. Includes a new exe (with a fixed title bar and splash page), the latest sound stuff, plus all the Overworld graphics.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/pxtd6 ... nstall.exe

Episode 1 is still uploading (It's 527 MB, and my upload speed isn't the fastest).

Episode is now uploaded: http://www.mediafire.com/download/tknn2 ... isode1.exe

Note that both this and the Base Game are both Valid zip files, so you should be able to open them in any file archiver.

It looks like the same zip file from a few months back. MAKL isn't in here, neither is the OW or the start-of or end-of-world files. Also, I seem to be missing from Town 8. :(

Yeeees! I love the name you gave to the Calleoca battle.

Also wow, that overworld looks amazing.
The first thing I would do with infinite power would be to make myself a cave where I could look at my shadow forever.

I made a game called Utter Confusion! Play it! :D
It's a lot of fun and has been incredibly popular at every indie game dev party I've brought it to.

Forgot to mention: Any bugs you find should be posted to http://asmbxt.wikia.com/wiki/Episode1/Bugs so that way I can't miss it. You can post bugs on the forums (especially if you want to check and see if something actually is a bug or not), but the level author might not see it, and I might end up forgetting about it.

I think I might have a problem opening Episode 1. I keep getting the following error message when I try to extract it even with admin privileges:

Error in line 6 of configuration data:
Extract A2XT"

Some help would be appreciated!

The download works for me when I install it into the default folder and then move the files to the right place. The default route was C:\Program Files (x86)\A2XT\Main Game\worlds

Who are currently testing the OW/Beta version?

Edit: also where should I write the suggestions and things to improve while playing?
Something like a beta testing thread would be nice.

Try downloading it again. The installer should be fixed. Or just open the .exe in 7zip or some other file archiver, and manually extract it.

Dammit, you beat me to saying that!

But yeah, for whatever reason the HUB graphics folder was missing from the archive. I also found some typos here and there in the cutscenes:

After the Tutorial: "VEGEYABLE HARVESTER" -> "VEGETABLE HARVESTER"; "abord" -> "aboard"
After Remakes are So Cliche: "dranged physopath" -> "deranged psychopath" (Of course, I could take physopath to be a synonym for masochist, but...)

And I agree with Willhart, we should probably make a new topic for beta testing.

Yeah, a thread for testing would be nice.

I'll download it and start playing this afternoon. Is there anything in particular you-who-done-made-this want me to keep an eye out for? Is there an especially important kind of feedback you're hoping for?

Off the top of my head:

-Any bug or issue that stops any progression in the game
-Any graphical issues you think should be fixed
-Level difficulty, this is a lot more laid back though, and really just anything that seems waaaay out of place [probably the biggest thing to check here is the Final Level of World 8 before post-game]
-Lag in places
-Grammar errors, (this'll probably be all over the place)
-Anything you think the game would benefit from

I might have found a graphical bug.

In the tutorial, when you hit raocow's coin-block when it has coins on top the 'coin-jumpup-disappear' animation thing for collecting them looks different then the coins themselves.

EDIT: Also at Sheath's 'use bombs' tutorial place there is a black background line just sitting there in plain sight.

Well, plain sight-ish. The background of the level itself makes it slightly harder to see.

EDITEDIT: Intro cutscene, Kood conversation: 'Demo:oh.' should be 'Demo: Oh.'

You forgot Kaizo Traps/Being able to die when you hit an end goal.

That's an SMBX thing. There's only one graphic for collecting a coin, and it's used for all the different coins.

Unless someone else beats me to it, I'll fix the typos in the cutscenes later tonight and put out an updated zip file.

I posted a bug in the Episode 1 bugs list relating to the intro cutscene's wording btw. So make sure to check that.

Also - indeed we need a beta test thread. I need some kind of OP to send people to to test this. Finding it in this topic is just too disorganised. You should make it SAJ since you're the one distributing the current playable version.

I'll beta test the game in video format until its difficulty exceeds my skill. A hub graphics folder would be nice though so I can see what I'm meant to be doing.

Also no-one would have a typo problem if you guys just typed out the cutscenes in Word or Writer or whatever when you were making them, spellchecked them, then copy and pasted each line into SMBX.

I wish I had more lives. I keep game overing on the world 1 boss. xD
I just can't get peach to land in the lava! I'm not sure if this is a difficulty thing or if I am just doing terribly.
