a thing i want to say to every new LPer :
If you started, you should be proud you actually even started doing LPs! YOU have MY respect for that accomplishment!
Everyone starts really small... even raocow did!!! (I searched for his oldest video (wasnt easy) hehe )
KEEP YOUR HOPES HIGH UP AND KEEP UP THE NICE WORK!!

There's my problem. See, I started. A few times. And even if I have some interest at first, the decline of it always kills me. Like, without people keeping up, I just don't feel like I can keep going and things just stagnate.

Respect to those who can keep it up. Mine always just die. It can't be my voice since the same thing happens to my text-based forum LPs (via screenshots.)

I'll start to have a little free time again soon, but... well... when most of my projects just vanish into thin air like this one it can be kind of hard to keep going. (And before you laugh, the admin changed my name because he was bored, as has happened with 2/3 of the site)
When in doubt, call it a thing. That's how raocow does it. And it works for me.

Let’s see, my favorite LP’ers in descending order of watch-ed-ness…

raocow (I know I’m not supposed to mention him, but just for the sake of completeness)
Chuggaconroy (basically because he LP’s things I enjoy)
NintendoCaprisun (I’m not a fan of his overuse of catchphrases, but he’s a nice guy)
Azureblade 49 (though he rarely actually LP’s anymore)
Icrangirl (I happen to like her style)
Chocowulf (my introduction to LP’s and will always hold a special place in my heart)
Peteyboo (my favorite talkhaus LP’er)
DyslexicWombat (second favorite talkhauser)
HarmfullGravemind (third of the talkhause favorites)
Protonjon (I don’t actually like him that much, but he is pretty important to the LP scene in general so there we go.)

There are quite a few others as well, but these are the guys I check in with on a regular basis.
And sorry about all the big names up there, I know this is more about smaller people, but sadly I cant watch too many people and still be able to function in life, so I limit myself to a couple of people.

I like Jethrotex, LiamSixx, and LPSquirtleKing
These LPers are doing high-quality LPs and deserve a lot more attention than they are getting.

Jethrotex: LPing for 8 months. Has done or is doing 9 LPs, most notably: Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Sunshine (Current), Hey You Pikachu!, and Epic Mickey (Blind).

LiamSixx: LPing for 11 months. Has or is doing 4 LPs. My favorites are: Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Kingdom Hearts (Current).
http://www.youtube.com/user/LiamSixx

LPSquirtleKing: Only LPing for one month so far, but is doing 3 LPs and is doing a very good job at it: Super Mario Sunshine, Okami, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team (Blind).

Yeah, I feel it as well, although I never managed to start because I don't know how to record both mic and game sound. :D On the other hand, there's also the fact that I made a few test runs and hated the way my voice sounded (pauses, awful accent... *sigh*). Is every LP'er out there so conscious about this stuff or they just don't care about it?

Everyone thinks their own voice sucks.

It's also weird to talk to no one and to listen to yourself talk to no one.

You eventually just get used to it.

You can record your voice separately with something like Audacity.

My problem, as with probably every other LPer like me around da place, is that we're completely covered by larger ones, and there's no way to get a thing going on. There's that wish for the page to be active and interactive, but there's also the fact that people are more and more interested by the big names which pretty much close every possible door we could have opened by being original, playing unusual stuff, being entertaining and as potentially good as some big names. That's also how society works. You're at the right place at the right time, you get the success, and then you have more means by keeping up. Vicious industry :P

I've been seriously considering doing an LP of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but I wonder if I should even bother. Some LPers in Europe have already stolen my thunder of being the elusive "FIRST!", and are a week ahead of everyone else.
My LP would be taped off-screen (I don't have money for capture cards), with live commentary, obviously blind.
I'm not sure whether to just enjoy the game for myself or start big like this, and then move to a list of other games for the computer.

Advice?

What?

If you mean camcorder then just forget it unless you can make it look good somehow. Also it sounds like all you give a shit about is being first so it's probably gonna be awful so I would just forget it? If you really wanna try it though then go ahead and do it, I don't want to discourage you from trying anything. Do what you want, but you'll probably have to show somebody what you've got first before you can get some "real" advice
I'm on Youtube andTwitter and Discord so say hi to me on there cause I don't really post here also I have sigs off so I can make my sig as ugly as I want and it won't bother me this is my sig btw

Yeah, a camcorder LP is probably not the best idea. You can get a DVD recorder for like a hundred bucks and some DVDs for 15. Or if you've got a beast of a computer, just rip the discs and play them on Dolphin or whatever emulator with a screen recorder.

I was actually thinking of uploading SS videos as I go through the game. Not really an official LP, but more of a "Let's Discover", since I know next to nothing about the game.

Come to think of it, that's what Hyper 6 is as well, but at least I know the physics of that...

Well, you guys convinced me it's not worth it, but I couldn't help but go 'what if?', and uploaded a test anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QOVXaWBmDQ

Ofcoarse I would use a tripod if I was doing it 'for real'. Are camcorder LPs really that bad? Picture seems okay to me.

And yes, age 20 and I still use 'mommy'. A real man admits that.

Camcorder LPs have a horrible reputation as low-effort attempts churned out by hundreds of YouTubers who just want to do something they think might get them an audience easily -- and it never works out.

That is the best quality I've ever seen from a camera though....

If you could get it properly centered (and by that, I mean perpendicular and without any border past the TV), as well as some way to record the audio loud and clear (I believe you can get wires for that, although you'd have to record your voice separately), it might work.

You'd still get laughed at by restupurae though if your commentary isn't good.

It looks okay so far as camcorder stuff goes, which isn't saying much, but I still probably wouldn't watch it. If you would speak up and actually had stuff to say, I would probably watch something you did cause your voice doesn't sound horrible.

Thanks for saying that! I was speaking quitely in that video though (except when I was yelling at my mom). Oh well, I have church and then work 3 hours later, so no deal.

My plan was to make SS as a first LP, and then hunker down on a computer and do other games I want to do from there. My logic is becuase SS is new and anticipated, people would look for that. SS would be the only video done to get viewers (and on the TV), the rest would be whatever the heck I want.

Like I said, I won't bother till later. I just need to find another game as a good '1st LP'.

I PM'd thoughtsofglought, but he appears to have vanished. Anyhow, I think everyone here should give Hunniebee a shot. Info below:

Name, Gender, Age : Melissa, Female, 22
What do I play/do? : Various types of games, new and old, I also make videos about gaming events/technology/unboxing/etc.
LPing since: January 13, 2011
Youtube channel Link : http://www.youtube.com/FlightOfTheHunniebee
Special Notes : I've done VFX work for the CoD live action films 'Find Makarov' and 'Operation Kingfish'. My reason for starting LPs was to have the motivation to beat games. raocow is definitely inspiring as well.

What do I play/do? : High Quality ROM Hacks, contests/events from SMWCentral, I'm hoping to do Chip's Challenge eventually.
LPing since: June 2010
Youtube channel Link: http://www.youtube.com/user/tomphanto
Special Notes: I'm able to use a video camera and I've worked with professional editing software. I however am using Premiere Elements right now, and I really think there's better programs out there. But for the most part, I use Windows Movie Maker for processing because the file size is smaller.

Whoa, I need to update mine. BADLY.

Name, Gender, Age : RivalNightmare, Male, 17
What do I play/do? : Mainly RPGMaker games, but I can do others.
How long have I been in the LP business market? A while, but I have started a new so, around a year?
Youtube channel Link : http://www.youtube.com/user/TheRivalNig ... ature=mhee
Special Notes : I take all kinds of requests, as long as they are within RPGMaker style. (for now). I also translate Japanese/Other languages of RPGMaker games and make an LP of them, if you want something translated and played, just ask. I mainly focus within horror games though, but I will branch out to do more. I also do a lot of update videos to keep in touch with the people watching me.
I try to upload daily when I'm actually in a project.
