Has the music for the credits been decided yet?

No, but I really liked the ominous vibe of the credits song in ASMT and I'd like to replicate that effect if possible.AUS wrote:Has the music for the credits been decided yet?
Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Actually I think it'd make for a pretty awesome switch palace theme.
P.S. sure thing Demetri!

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Hm, is there any way we can keep the pan flute in? It fit so incredibly with that OW theme, and was generally just a really nice-sounding sample. Even if it means taking out A Something Theme entirely!Wyatt wrote:
Other changes to the bank: Pan flute removed (this was for an OW track so it needed to overwrite a SMW sample to work)
Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
I don't think it's possible. The deal is that overworld songs can only call samples that are associated with pre-programmed instruments, i.e. the default samples. If one overwrites a default sample with a new one, THEN the new sample can be used in an overworld song. But since we're limiting ourselves to a single music bank, which has to work with every song in the game, overwriting any default sample will mess up all the songs which use that sample.
IF we have room for two sample banks when the project is done, I can probably fit the samples used for OW theme 1 and A Something Theme into the same bank. But we probably won't have room for that extra bank, so unfortunately both A Something Theme and the sampled version of OW1 will probably have to go.

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Ah well, that is really a shame.
Out of curiosity, what instruments/samples do we have at our disposal in this single bank?

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Aside from the ~20 defaults, we have:
-snare drum
-crash cymbal
-sleigh bell
-choir
-lead guitar
And some NES samples, which all take up barely any space:
-12.5% square wave
-25% square wave
-50% square wave
-Another 50% square (the other one is sharper and sticks out badly when used with SMW samples, but sounds better when used with the other squares)
-noise
-triangle wave
-snare drum
-crash cymbal
-sleigh bell
-choir

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Maybe we could replace the choir with the pan flute?
I apologize if I'm overstepping here, but I mean, we're only using the choir for that one snow theme right now (if I am not mistaken here), and the pan flute has a lot of applicability, aside from being an incredible sample in its own right.
Just spitballing.

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
I'm curious as to where we'd use the pan flute sample though, since we can't use it in OW1 even if we do fit it in the bank. If you have a non-overworld song in the works that you want the sample for, you should let us know now, since otherwise there's not much point in making space for it.
I actually am planning to use the choir in a few songs. Three to be exact, not counting the snow theme, and it could easily be used in more. However, if there's a really good reason to get the pan flute sample in, I could replace the choir with a smaller, crappier-sounding choir, since the choir we have now is pretty huge.

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Ah, okay, I was under the impression that the choir was only being used for that one track. In that case, it probably doesn't make sense to replace it with a lower quality sample (unless it's REALLY taking up a crap ton of space, and downgrading the quality would allow like four or five other samples to be inserted... but it doesn't seem like that's the case).
Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Oh hey I made this for Terry's level, which has been in-game forever but uses SMW castle music.
EDIT: SNN, you mentioned something about real SNES consoles getting mad when hacks mix default music and custom music. Does that mean we have to use custom music everywhere for things to work properly? There are a couple levels where default music works way better than custom music would, and I want to know if we need to worry about them. They work in bsnes at least, so I'm hoping they're no problem.

This should be our title screen music.

At first I was like "wow are you serious?" then I clicked the link, saw the title, and agree wholeheartedly.

To my knowledge, you'll only need to replace the default cave music and there's one already available on SMWC. Of course, I'm also not SNN.Wyatt wrote:EDIT: SNN, you mentioned something about real SNES consoles getting mad when hacks mix default music and custom music. Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
I finished the Marisa World boss theme! Lemme know what you guys think.
Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
I think it's great am and really glad you made it.
Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
The requested mountain OW theme is complete:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h0BfkDF ... ature=plcp
This will likely be the final thing I compose for the project, unless another specific request pops up.

And here's the SMW version!
So to recap, overworlds and their themes:
World 0: Hub Area

Music: ???
World 1: ForestMusic: Forest OW
World 2: Beach
(No Image)
Music: Beach OW
World 3: LavaIce MountainsMusic: Mountain OW
World 4: Underground DomeMusic: ???
World 5: Blue Island
(No Image)
Music: Sky OW
World 6: Abstract NightMusic: Night OW
World 7: ???
(No Image)
Music: ???
World 8: Winter DreamsMusic: SNN's Ice OW
World 9: Final DestinationMusic: SNN's Final Destination
Someone tell me if I messed up anywhere (I think I might've switched worlds 7 and 8). If I'm right, we need music for:
Hub
Cave
Unthemed
I can probably do a few of these, though I don't know what Hub and Unthemed are gonna look like.
EDIT: Attached an idea for Final, but may abandon it due to it being slow + a total ripoff of another song

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
I'll try something for the cave map, and then I'll send it + the ported ice map track at the same time.
Cool to see that most of the map themes are done already though.

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Scratch the cave map for now - as soon as I started composed, a final-ish mood came out: Final Destination (Last Map) Proposition
Didn't mean to step on any toes there, Wyatt. I noticed you already started something, but I wanted to try it as well anyway.
Feedback is more than welcome!

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
Cave theme! Really happy I actually got some use out of the sleigh bell sample outside of the winter song.
EDIT: do we have a list of which sublevels use which music? I think this song should replace music 7B (an old mystic cave zone port) and of course the vanilla SMW cave music.

Nah, we don't have a list. I do remember a few sublevels though that could use it.Wyatt wrote:EDIT: do we have a list of which sublevels use which music? I think this song should replace music 7B (an old mystic cave zone port) and of course the vanilla SMW cave music.

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
A youtube comment on Generic Caw's video of unfinished songs he made, suggested that his ??? should be A2MT's boss music.
I extended the song to see how that would work out..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BFbdtL5_Go
..It would probably be too repetitive. However, I can see it working, if one was to add more to it..

Heres a midi I put together to make it easier if you guys want to use it:

Someone with more talent can make it not so boring.

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general
so uh, I've got the midi finished for the final final level. The song intentionally mucks around with it's tuning resulting in a bunch of semi-tones. Add a whole bunch of volume slides and vibratos and this is looking messy.
Is there anyone out there with perfect pitch who wouldn't mind helping out?
