Added vote for treasure chest interaction.
Note: For solid like a key, you can't activate it from the side of the sprite by pressing up.

We need some costumes and at least 97 random items. (That's the number of OW levels more or less. I'm certain it's a number between 95-97.) At most 512 items. (The number of sublevels in the game).

For some costumes, I think we could make some unlocked from treasure chests. For some other costumes, such as Halo Demo, if Chibikko happens to get something like that finished for A2MT and a level is made with it, it could be unlocked at the end of that level. And then other costumes could be unlocked during random events and stuff. (By random events I mean maybe one could come from a cutscene and such.)

Some costumes could even just be recolors of an existing one.

gp = gold pieces

I'm thinking of not using any of the below to allow larger numbers. Also I won't really use commas most likely.

I think some of those costumes are kinda needless and making this far too customisable. From your list I'd keep RDemo, TDemo w/ hat, and Tuxedo Demo (this one only because it references MGS3). We really don't need all the various outline ones at the very least.

As far as items go I think "A heart!" is good, but the others we should drop. If people wanted to collect various nintendo treasures there's already kirby superstar (and warioland 2 and 3) for that. I think the treasures in A2MT should go for something different, maybe more to do with the indie game community with references to cave story and AUS and such, as well as raocow references.

Item... I wanna try to have an item in a level I make at some point... hmm... Horse Egg, But is that too easy? :S I'll get back to ya. It's a good placeholder for now.

The level designers themselves should choose their items, if they're using them at all.

I think it's still a good idea to give them a list if either they can't think of one, want to choose one, or the one they choose doesn't work for some reason. Or is downvoted or innapropriate.

But a level that has a costume doesn't get an item so depending on how you do it, 10 costumes and 80 items could be enough.

Items are easier to think of anyway. I don't really think that it's necessary to actually use the item in some later stage. For instance, when you get a sword, you won't use it at any point in the game. It's just there to show you 100% completed the level. Kinda like Wario Land.

If we got the permission, AUS, Cavestory and Runman amongst others have some cool items.

Although I think it will get tiresome near the end. Does every level have to have a treasure chest. Would it hurt if some levels have no dragon coins whatsoever? Especially when we use infinite lives.


And how is it exactly? Find the 5 dragon coins and then the chest appears somewhere in the level or at the end before the goalpost or something?

Note: I didn't make a list with 100 entries because I think there'll be that many items.

Since when are we using infinite lives? I thought we were going to keep the life stuff like ASMT?

And, I never said EVERY level is going to have a treasure chest. They only will if the author allows it.

Also here's how I was planning on doing it:

Somewhere in some levels (you can tell which by a symbol on the OW similar to the key's we used) is a treasure chest. You just have to find it. That's all there is.

Of course making some have requirements to find for a few levels such as getting 5 dcoins or have 50 coins etc could be interesting.

I definitely think the treasure should be something each level designer makes for their own level. If they can't think of anything, they could always ask the forum for ideas.

As for costumes, I'd say we should keep them at a minimum if just to minimise our workload. No more than ten, I'd say - if that. I personally would suggest RDemo, Iris-style if we aren't using 2player, Demo with red beret, Tuxedo Demo, Egg (Although, how would we make the sprites for when you've got a mushroom? I imagine it'd be difficult to make an egg with a 16x32 pixel hitbox!), Marisa Demo(spriting this one right now) and Ninja Demo. I was thinking maybe Cirno Demo as well, but the icy wings would be a bit difficult to make with the little space available so I don't know.

I agree with this completely, chests should have individual challenges set by the level designer or forum, that's half the fun; also putting in too many costumes ruins the novelty and is more work than is needed, we should ditch the transparent and angel and sunglasses ones because there are much better ideas out there.

Does anyone know how the constume changing actually works? Is it possible to change the Mario gfx in a particular level so that it stays that way throughout the game unless you change into something else (in that same level)?
And can you change it to multiple new sprites? Which would be nice if we use more then 1 costume.

If changing in a specific level works, what about a changing room in the ship? Along with a shelf for the treasures.

Kilon: Yes, because the teleporters in asmt stayed used when you beat them. This means some values in the game can remain consistent between levels.

RealLink: I like this idea, somewhere near the start of the space station where you can change and view collected treasures.

I have an udea for how i'm going to make the costume blocks that'll carry onto other levels, with multiple costume support. don't worry about it.

although chibikko those two things you mentioned could help perhaps.

I absolutely love that marisa and ninji demo.

Yea I agree with keeping the old one. I don't see why giving the player infinite lives is a good idea either unless we can remove every instance of gaining lives but it still seems like a bad idea even if we can.

Yah,I like the challenging feel of when your on your last life, with no power-ups. That's what helps give the game more feeling, with infinite lives, people could just keep on going, which could be kind of repetitive.

Awesome! Now if you can cycle through multiple costumes like this, it would be perfect.
The OW sprite should be able to change as well though.
