to be specific we'd like to say that, implying there is literally zero further hiccups of "oh shit we need to adjust this to fit with an additional plot thing", we can 100% have these done in drafting by the end of the year. from there, there'd likely be a revision process of some kind, and the people who are actually putting these in-game would almost certainly have to adjust shit with us giving consultance, which we'd wager is something that would take at LEAST to the end of february. and of course, any plot stuff related to the postgame is NOT on us, so if that doesn't wrap up sooner/around the end...

I am actually super unsure we will be finished with all of this by March, mostly the final boss, cutscenes and later bugtesting. I'm not sure how Cam & Tori are holding up recently, I think I heard they were going through Some Shit.
We could keep this as a "try to get most things finished" pre-final deadline though for now, scheduling and trying to impose Some Timeframe is important for a successful project, even if it's something casual like this.

update on this! um. the past week and a half has been (namely: ya girls are having Unchecked Stress Issues that have compounded into a Major False Alarm Yikes Scenario and Tori is like the only reason we aren't in full dysfunction mode) so we, still haven't gotten to sit down and write the drafts, let alone scribble up some example gfx for 'em.
BUT. we will say this. part of what's been such a huge obstacle (mental-block wise, not "irl impediment" wise is if it's acceptable to put a cutscene inbetween where SCENE 2 and SCENE 3 were in our original rough drafts. see this specific post. if we can get confirmation that's fine, we might be able to start cooking... irl and our own mental health providing, ofc.
also yeah, we'd wager that between us and also Everything Else, odds are we are. not hitting ronco's birthday, let alone releasing sometime near A2XT:E2. probably the same half of the year! but no sooner than that. which in our humble opinion is good, both bc it means we have basically zero risk of crunching everyone else, but also depending on how things time out, we might get to release after A2XT:E2 has had its time to simmer, and ronco's played the majority of it--that way, we can hopefully let both of those projects shine, rather than dropping these more-or-less back-to-back on one another and just having the two overshadow one another.

The way I see it, I think it's reasonable to expect that all content in the hack will be inserted by March. There's honestly not too much left to do right now, and once we get Luckwaive's overworld inserted within the next day or so, a lot of things that depend on it will fall into place. So in other words, I think a content deadline of early March makes sense. That should be ample time for everyone to "comfortably" be able to finish their stuff without extending the deadline too far. All I want is for us to avoid the crunch that the A2XT2 team is currently experiencing. I've been following A2XT2 development on the ASMT Discord, and I feel bad about how stressed out they've become. I want work on AAT to be fun for everyone involved; ultimately, it's just a hobby that we're doing in our spare time. With that said, I'd rather not have to drag the content deadline out further than March (i.e., into the latter half of the year). There comes a time where we should finally move on, and personally speaking, there's a bunch of other creative projects I'd like to pursue afterwards. I think others feel the same way, too.
Bugtesting is another matter. Fully testing the completed hack from start to finish will be crucially important. We need to be even more careful with testing AAT than for A2XT2, because it's not going to be simple to do emergency hotfixes like in SMBX (e.g., worrying about whether or not .srm can still carry over, whether new patches won't overwrite anything else, etc.). For example, we'll need to test the game completely with both Demo and Iris, and also on different save files and emulators (the latest versions of Mesen and Snes9x). We'll need enough time for enough testers to go through the game at least once. I would figure at least a month for full hack testing, factoring in people's free time and availability. I would be very uncomfortable releasing this hack for raocow to play without adequate bugtesting.
Regarding raocow's LP schedule, it's up to him if he wants to play A2XT2 and AAT back-to-back, assuming that both will be R-Zone'd. I don't mind actually if he does. I just don't want them to be played concurrently on different slots, but thankfully, SAJ assured us that wouldn't be the case. If there's concern about playing the games in too close proximity to each other, then maybe he can do a small project in between, like a short ROM hack or SMBX game. So therefore, we should ideally wrap up our bugtesting/polish phase to coincide sometime near the end of the A2XT2 LP. Seems like that timeframe would be approximately midyear.

Yes, it should be fine to put a cutscene in between scenes 2 and 3 that checks if you've beaten all the bosses first. for those not looking at the story thread, a spoiler-free update:
- the rough draft process is DONE
- we still need gfx for scenes 2.5 and 3 (yes, 2.5). 3 will likely be a screenshot of a level but 2.5 will require custom art for it. this is currently the biggest roadblock, if you are a capable and willing artist check that thread out
- we still need to lock in all the script revisions and then after we get all the GFX we'd like to also revise the scene 1 graphics to not use our awful sketches. this is not as high priority as actually getting the missing GFX though.
- we'd like to get the drafted GFX done by march 15th and hopefully the cutscenes done by april 7th--these aren't exactly concrete but we'd very much appreciate it!

The only things left that I can think of before we're considered "done" is The Final Boss, some cutscenes (as mentioned above), the Overworld events, 4 SPECIAL Rooms, and the credits.
PSI Ninja had set a hard cutoff date of March 5 (raocow's borthday) for this, so that's 2 weeks to wrap things up.

Iris is in, possibly alongside a 2P mode? I forget exactly, someone else from the dev team may answer this better. Pily is not though, her SMBX sprites would require the 32x32 player sprite patch to be inserted which would not be viable at this late hour due to the amount of testing it'd need.
We could go and try to recreate her old A2MT graphics from Chdata's old boss (I think old pictures of it are archived somewhere?) but I think it's best we focus on what we currently have to finish rn and get this kusoge finished, and save Pily for an AAT2 bonus feature if at all, especially since we'd have to make cape sprites and such.
