thinking of trying to study a pic of soriz from granblue once im done and also do some figure drawing and anatomy studies. but also, finish the leomon pic i was working on

learning is fun but overstudy can make me afraid to tackle things out of an anxiety of "not being ready to succeed" (school trauma) so i need to counter balance with occasional working exercises

rough skipsqueak sprite i've gone and done

i got some feedback on it (basically feeling the forms more and better contrast on the blues for the antialiasing to work properly) but they said it themselves that it all would come to me with further practice

Melee-styled scale platform, meant for SMW. Uses the Yellow Koopa palette (Palette A if i'm not mistaken?) with an extra grey tone for the wiring. The ASM is a work in progress, but I try to work on it whenever I can (i.e. when my motivation isn't shot).

A small tree I made in Aseprite with the help of Doctor Gear's foliage tutorial. I recently downloaded Godot and thought about making a small game just for practice so I might as well get started on graphical assets. Makes me a bit nervous.

thank u its a friend from smwc's avatar on discord. im pretty sure it's a screencap of the pokémon anime but i used a redrawing (vector?) as a reference so the shading is a bit off

i saw gaming historian's video on mario paint and i was like "i want that experience" and i had fun. mouse art without a zoom feature is ass but it was fun! he also complimented it on twitter so 8-)

i uploaded this to the funny furry art site that's run by Literal Pedophiles And Zoophiles but I'm not hotlinking that one here because they already had a Cloudflare related fucky wucky earlier today (speaking of which I also need to mirror it and a few others on weasyl aka the site no one uses because of the monopoly furaffinity has on the furry community)

anyway 3 hour practice session of just Digimon. it started as a session to learn how to draw guilmon but it snowballed into this

working on a messy sketch of parin from gurumin. this is just the first few layers, so it's pretty lackluster for my skill level, i'll keep refining until it's as on model as i can make it. my hands are very bad but that's what reference is for ^^

I'm getting into a good vibe with drawing, now. *tomb raider bad game on ps2 voice* I Feel Stronger Now

Been working on a pic yesterday and did a lot of progress in a single day, which I'm very proud of. I drew so slow before, over focusing on details on buildings and such because of little confidence. A sort of friend (I guess we can be friends ^^) in a Portuguese furry friend's server I'm in suggested starting drawings with a gesture sketch to have better flow for the pose, and it's great.

I'm also trying to trace smartly, by both taking note of the proportions and distances for each facial feature and such, and referencing while placing it close to the image in the canvas (I'm bad at large distances, sorry) instead of simply drawing over it like an idiot dumdum, as that's plagiarism (it's still okay just for practice though).

I didn't draw over things a lot but I'm posting this bc this method is helping a ton with getting faces down semi-accurately, which matters a lot to me as someone who enjoys drawing fanart of cute men. I still have my own way of drawing eyes and I don't always do beards 100% accurately on purpose, because I'm a doofus. I need to work more on hands too, practice practice practice.

I'm also using a 3D model on Sketchfab as reference for muscle anatomy and such, special thanks to another friend for telling me about it many years ago. I just didn't know how to use it before. Said friend also gave me lots of feedback for the pic I was drawing yesterday, much love to them. Might actually pay 15 smackers later on just so I can mess with it on Blender if it ever gets taken down for some reason...

I'm gonna work on a pic of my fursona for now and I'll try to work on stuff like Parin a bit more, it needs quite a bit of refinement. I also wanna start drawing like an action pose drawing of Sif and Albert from Romancing SaGa that I was too overwhelmed to try before, maybe a Lina Inverse pic? Maybe Luna or Lemina from Lunar? Or Chris and Julio, or Estelle from Legend of Heroes? Maybe Chiu from the Dragon Quest anime... Oh, I actually wanna draw some OVA-styled Sonic characters too.

I hope I can only get better. :bow:

beyond that i've just been drawing macro stuff (i cannot post that here), im gonna practice inking some older work with vector layers in CSP in a few days as well as coloring and basic shading. just taking a break for a few days (a week?) because i drew a lot of homoerotic stuff this past september and that's a lot of work.

the pose on the pic above is very cluttered, my friend advised/reminded me to make the silhouette clearer, which i'll try to be more careful with next time. i take feedback kind of super seriously. ^^; gotta be a good artist >:3

i'm also using postybirb+ to mirror my artwork better. pixiv, mastodon (macrofurs.social), weasyl, itaku, furaffinity and dA work fine, though twitter is broken bc elon, so i have to post it manually. postybirb+ has an option for bsky so i'll get on it once i ask my friend theo for an invite, though it's not a priority as the site is still kind of in "pillowfort mode" and also most accounts are private rn.

cohost will also have to be manual, i'll have to ask another friend for a decent tag list so people can filter my stuff away from their feeds if they want. i don't really get much "social media numbers" either way (my FA uploads peak at around 15 faves?), im in it for drawing and writing about men as a sort of unhealthy coping mechanism and interacting with other artists, both less and more experienced ^^

it's been a long time since i drew sfw, sorry abt that. macrophilia is just super fun to draw, it does help a lot with perspective and architecture practice and such. though sometimes it's best to just get used to the basics, especially now that i'm kinda rusty.

dates on images go YY-MM-DD, it's for the sake of linear timeline organization on a folder I have with picture exports of art dating all the way back to 2020. I use the "organize by name" option on Win10.

Demo(n) (Cleansed) - Semi-joke ABCD OC, a friend compared xem as the Silver to normal Demo(n)'s Shadow. I could use she or they but let's spice it up. I also just really like super absurd Lenneth from Valkyrie Profile-type characters, and I was playing Valkyrie Profile at the time.

A lot of xyr bio is kinda jokey, but xe's also very honest at the same time. I want to state, xyr's tree bark gender is a joke, but it is not intended to be an "attack helicopter" joke. That shit's cringe as fuck

I wanted to make xem look very minimalist and non-human, like xe doesn't even have feet nor do xyr leg stumps end on a nub, it's just a weird V shape like one of the Demo pics on the forum header. I think that's very cool. Xe's also dark skinned for fun, dark skin with white hair like Elena from Street Fighter is a nice vibe and a super good look. Short hair on fem characters is fun too.

I almost gave xem just an exclamation mark on the dress, but I changed it to an interrobang bc the former would be Bubsy coded. ABCDs tend to have stripe designs on their clothes, so I hope this is fine. Sword is a spork, bc that's funny. Granted it's kind of based on the sword in Arngrim's battle sprite in Valkyrie Profile too (rest in peace Maddie Blaustein), as well as just shit like. Guts' Dragon Slayer from Berserk and whatnot, I love Japanese media sword designs that just ape that shit up.

Xyr wing could be better, but I didn't feel like pulling up reference so I just went with vague memories of the wings on a Summon Night 2* character's kinda "ascended" form. For details it's,

Also I have mixed feelings on the name Dylan, one, it's not epic for the win as like something dumb like Garrosh, two, no offense to normal people named Dylan, it just reminds me of noodles-and-beef, and I seriously hope that monster fucking dies in the most torturous manner possible. I still haven't forgotten the Tank debacle.

Horned Reaper - Reminded myself of him because I saw Two Point Hospital while buying some stuff on the Switch eShop, Two Point Hospital being based on Theme Hospital, and thought. "Yo he'd make for a terrific husbando", so I tried to practice him a bit, mostly based on his Dungeon Keeper 2 design, for a later, lewder pic. DK Online Horny is also super cute.

My friends noticed that the trapezius are kinda gone in this, and I'll try to be careful next time. I don't usually forget about it, but I kinda did this with minimal reference like a total dumbass instead of like. Just getting out the Ecorché 3D Model like a normal person, or Google image searching buff fuckers.

Jeffry McWild - I am very VERY insistent on Jeffry being a cute ass fucker, and I'm sad his portrayal on Virtua Fighter tends to be "the scary black man". I really wanna watch the Virtua Fighter anime to see if, even if it's trash, they gave his like three episode appearance some good vibes. They did kinda whitewash him which is on brand with the series (Vanessa...).

I don't expect Virtua Quest to give anyone proper lines beyond just being Pokémon.

This is also practicing black features like hair and lips, I'm not a fan of the Steven Universe/Craig of the Creek lip drawing method, but shit like Toriyama's racist lips piss me off too. 80s cartoon style fish lips (see: Rio from Jem) Do Not Fucking Interact. Mouth is WAY too tiny but like, I did not want to adjust the beard and lips, right (our right not his) cheek bone also feels smaller than the left one. Pic's a bit rushed despite still taking me around an hour.

But yeah, as a hobbyist bara artist, I don't wanna be the all too common bara artist type that mostly just draws white guys and the occasional mukokuseki east asian dude, as well as having the issue of barely drawing any fat dudes whatsoever.

All men are beautiful (even non-cis ones, it must be said) and they deserve to be celebrated without being fetishized for their race, or even their genitals. Legit thinking of making ocs alongside my truckload of fanart and r34 porn, for the sake of having more representation in my weird giant men shit. Sorry this went places, I kinda hate normie cis gays.

Slime - Okay so I have a Star Ocean 2 clone on RM2k3 I'm doing for the fun of it, and to practice Custom Battle System making, MAYBE affection mechanic "coding" if I feel confident enough; and I thought I might as well make a programmer art graphic for an enemy as I practice getting the ARPG battle engine to work. As much of an "engine" as event scripting bullshit in early PC RPG Makers can be.

And it came out super good? Like. Legit look up the posts over this, speaking of which I tried to just make a timeline folder for old pixel art and I could not find my old bullshit anywhere so it's a disorganized mess with possibly wrong dates, but w/e.

EDIT like 13 hours later: I found em late yesterday and archived them properly, I just wish I had the GraphicsGale/Aseprite canvas files for most of them, though most of them were done in one layer, so. I guess I can archive the Aseprite file for the slime. /edit end

And it's just super fucking good compared to everything outside of the goomba study where I tried to apply the shading of YI and SMAS goomba to the other sprite (very specifically the SMAS-shaded YI sprite).

Legit, bought Aseprite just for fucking around and came out of the pussy drawing Mozart. I kid ofc, but you have to keep in mind that using reference is like step 1 to drawing good, even if you suck at drawing. Pixel art (and model sculpting) is also augmented by just being good at 2D art as well, so if you're curious in either, I wholeheartedly encourage just drawing stuff you like.

You will suck at first, but It Doesn't Matter. It's somethign that's hard to accept, but it's much better to not care abt how bad you are and just draw as best as you can. Like I legit gave up drawing at one point because it was pissing me off and depressing me so much before trying again a week or two later.

I wanted a particularly GOOPY sprite to reference so I referenced Evil Tonight's slime (I seriously thoguht this was an obscure porn game, I may have to buy this), as well a bit of PSP Lunar's slime, though that one's more tendril-y.

Overall, these are nice drawings for practice, it's simple, but nice. That pixel slime looks great too.
I do agree that there's a tendency in media for stylized lips to be kinda unpleasant looking, which feel like the result of a lack of experimenting enough with their artstyle and end up feeling "off", so I commend any actual effort in doing that.

Thanks, I'm kind of disabled due to PTSD (I can still function to an extent, it's just harder to cope with shit) so stuff like drawing and even playing video games keeps my brain functioning and helps me cope. I'll try to update this thread with more safe art if I draw more.

I'm still feeling out my artstyle, there's a lot of good styles from video games alone that I love, as well as character design elements I want to experiment with, especially on male characters, so it's just a constant grind from here on. I've been doing this since roughly New Years' Eve 2018 on and off lmao.

I still haven't gotten started on learning rendering (coloring and shading) and I may have to trace some people's art to try and copy their coloring methods, by researching how others do it themselves and then trying to color it in with that knowledge. Maybe it'll help to look up speedpaints and such, I legit don't know where to start, and it feels like my friends don't either.

I think it's also good to work more on an "other people's art" art archival folder I have as like an idea pool and supplementary reference, alongside stuff like the muscle model I linked earlier and real life photography on Google Images, as well as CSP posing models.

It's so cold, I can't work right now though... March please come soon...

And today (the 21st) I doodled a pre-liminary oc design. Kogal cat-demon girl but she's also a reaper, I wanted to make her design chuuni af. I'll keep iterating on her.

Also trying to find a way to quickly sketch hands, to try and get a better grasp of their anatomy.
