i've been writing music in chiptune form for, like, six years now. i'm going to college for music composition, and i'm pretty sure it's gonna be my "thing" and hopefully lead to a sustainable income of some sort.

i've put up a bunch of stuff on my soundcloud which i can't easily embed here, so i'm gonna drop a link in Big Text so it stands out a bit:

and then i've also got a bandcamp page, where i've got collections of tracks on sale, including two albums, a single, and some small soundtracks i put together for some small indie games.

primarily character animation, though i've been trying out slightly-larger-scale stuff lately too.

i tend to go in-and-out of both art venues, spending a month or so only drawing pixel art or only writing music, so my workflow can be a bit sporadic. what i'm getting at is i have no idea what i'm going to end up posting next in this thread. maybe that's "exciting"???

this is a character designed by time2slime on twitter who pretty much everyone has been drawing so i decided to hop on that bandwagon



and yesterday was my friend ceebs' birthday so i drew one of their characters! their name is Brussels Sprout (i named them, incidentally) and they started off as a fusion between two of ceebs' other characters, shark chick and louise fiori, but they've been sorta broken off into their own thing now

i also made a process gif for this one, which i don't usually do because it never occurs to me to record the stages of progress when i'm making pixel art



the moral of the story is that i only find the motivation to make things when it's for others' enjoyment!

i made the first five for people to signal when they're gonna play a game so other folks can jump in, and the last three are CrappyBlueisms™

some sprites of some characters that my friends made! in order, they are black mage, white mage, and red knight, and they're sisters. they're actually nudists, all 3 of them (well ok only the first two of them are by choice), but the friend who designed them also gave them specific outfits for when they gotta be drawn with more clothes on. nudie sprites of them exist on my deviantart, but to be safe i won't link them here. though... it's just tiny pixel nudity. it's more cute than anything else

i call 'em the broke college kids because (aside from blue and cybil being siblings) they all met each other in college and they're all struggling to get by while trying to enjoy life, very relatable

i've been posting a lot more pixel art in here than music, but that's just because... i've been in kind of a musical slump lately. i often go through patterns of making more music than art and making more art than music, so i've just been in the latter camp for a couple months now. i've been really happy with a lot of the art i've been making, though, which is nice!

well, sonic mania has once again gotten me in the Mania Mood™ to make some sprites of the good kids, so i did.




doubt i'll do much more with them; as much as i enjoy setting up big sprite sheet projects for myself, it's almost therapeutic to just make a bunch of idle character sprites

bonus: this thing i always do when i make a new set of sonic sprites where i compare it to older sets of sonic sprites i made to see how i've progressed/improved



(no tails in the middle set because i never made a tails for that abandoned project)

okay... so like a week ago i did a twitter meme where, for every like the tweet got, i'd reply with an oc of mine with some small personality details attached. the tweet ended up getting more likes than i had ocs (i don't have that many ocs ok!!) and i ended up joking that the thwomp design i used in buttsmash villa counted as an oc on some level

so, uh, i made it an oc. the thwimp, also.

sonic mania's data file has been blown wide open thanks to very specific unpacker programs, so immediately the first thing i do with this power is pull out one frame of sonic's sprites to use as reference for a sonic-mania-style edit

thank you! i'd definitely like to put the effort in to make a full sheet for him, hopefully to the point of making a full sprite replacement mod viable. until then, though, i'm pointing myself toward more personal projects.

Elegy of Open Hands

i'm very proud of the latter; it's been half-finished for ~three months, and i just finished it last night in a blaze of motivation. it goes places i didn't expect it to when i started writing it, which is a very nice feeling as a composer, hahaha

Elegy of Open hands is very good! The change mid-song had quite an impact on me.

okay. so i haven't actually done much composing since last time i posted. but i have posted two of my personal favorite works yet in the last 6 months







that's cool and all (and let me be clear, i just finished Headfirst last night so i am very excited about it still), but check THIS out!!!!





so, uh, mania plus happened almost a couple of years ago now and mighty, My Boy, was in it. and he didn't look that great. so i, a humble pixel artist & animator, took it upon myself to make his sprites Better. and that's what all this is! here, have a bonus gif of mighty's new walk animation next to the base mania cast (no ray because his sprites also not great, and i may or may not try to fix them someday too)



as it turns out, mania modding on pc is really easy and accessible when it comes to art & animation editing, so once i'm done with the rest of his animations, i'll be able to upload it all as a mod you can download and play with, which is amazing and rad to me.
