Drawpile Server Anyone?
Drawpile Server Anyone?
So I've been getting kinda bored lately, and am beginning to miss the old days of iScribble. Thing is, iScribble isn't very good, so I looked into alternatives. Sure there's OpenCanvas, but I could never get that to work very well, but I have found a program I think should work very well.
It's called Drawpile
It's not a full on photoshop/gimp replacement, but it has most everything you need for effective digital drawing: Layers, brush customization, pressure sensitivity, even pressure curve control so you can customize how the brush reacts to pressure (something most major programs never have for some reason).
I haven't gotten around to taking it's server for a test run, I just want to see if anyone's interested in collaborative drawing. I'm posting this in a few places, so between different communities I'm hoping I'll find a few people.
If there's enough support, there's a chance I might be able to host a 24/7 Drawpile server so I won't need to be online for people to use it. So if this thing takes off, it'll benefit everyone.

This actually sounds like a lot of fun. I'm in on it.

Just looked it up and tried it out. It's a pretty impressive webapp. Like a more fleshed out iScribble. Very easy to get into and still fun to play around in. But the pressure sensitivity and line smoothing is really janky. I'll probably get into it if Drawpile ends up not working out.sonicspin wrote:floooockmooooood
To be honest my full on ideal collaborative drawing progam doesn't seem to exist. Ideally it would be something along the lines of Paint Tool SAI and have basic brush shapes, brush textures, and clipping masks, in addition to the brush dynamics found in DrawPile, but have support for multiple users and ideally be connected to Steam and have dedicated servers and server hosting to make drop-in drop-out play possible.
That said, I did draw a llama in flockmod, so hey, it's functional enough.
Still would prefer DrawPile though in terms of features.
Re: Drawpile Server Anyone?
Also, I'm probably gonna run a test server sometime saturday. If people could post general times when they'd be up to give it a shot along with your time zone, that'd be most helpful.

I usually draw around 6:00 P.M. to 11:00-11:30 P.M. Central (American) time. I may draw earlier than that, but that's the norm for me.

Ok, Drawpile is just plain better in every way.
So yeah. Maybe I'll fire up our own room sometime later. Maybe in 3 hours or so, maybe sooner. I'll keep y'all posted.

I don't have a tablet so it feels kind of like an oversensitive MS Paint for me. I'll opt out.

Here's the IP address.
192.168.1.78
Just open up Drawpile, click "session" and go to "join" then put that in the IP address with a username. No password.

Heyo, this looks like fun. I couldn't connect to the server, though. Was wondering if other peeps can connect and it's my problem or not.

Let's try this instead.
Go to "session" and click "join" then click "find" and look for "Testing Time" room.

Re: Drawpile Server Anyone?
Hrm. I can find it, but it still won't let me actually connect to it.

Look at this tutorial. It looked like it'd be easy but maybe I'm missing something?

Maybe it's a firewall thing? I tried entering another room and it worked fine there
Re: Drawpile Server Anyone?
Ya, port forwarding always caused the most problems for people I knew trying to run minecraft servers.

Re: Drawpile Server Anyone?
Ok, well it's still not working, so I'm calling it off for tonight as it's getting late. Thanks for trying though! :D
Re: Drawpile Server Anyone?
Ok, I got the server working. I think I was sending out the wrong IP and some other issues going on, but it's working now, so if anyone wants to draw now,
Go to Session > Join, click "find" and go to "DoodleHaus2" then join. :)

Re: Drawpile Server Anyone?
The First DoodleHaus session was a success!
I'll keep you guys posted on if I open up the server again sometime. I'd like to try to get more people on and maybe set up themes so people can get their creative juices flowing. I'll also mention it on SkypeHaus.
See you guys next time. :)
