Note: I don't do this anymore.

Here's a list of all the names of the creatures, ones I've already done and plan to do alike:
Food/House Items

Moth Ball

Image
Hush Puppy

Image
Devil Egg

Image
Pop Sickle

Image
Tape Worm

Image
Hand Soap

Pan Cake

Seal of Koala Tea
Chicken Steak
Dough Nut
Horsey Sauce
Pen Pal
Type Writer
Card Board
Egg Spurt
Pig Pen
Duck tape
Thesaurus

Garden/Garage-related Things (will come after foods/house items)

Grease Monkey
Monkey Wrench

Garden Snail
Crescent Wrench
Florist Friar
Earth Quaker
Horse Radish

Misc. (These aren't distinct enough to have their own categories yet, and are currently not planned to be done)

Kick Ass
Goose Bump
Computer Virus
House Spider
Hot Dog
Jabber Talky
Seal of Approval
Ant Lion
Sea Horse
Wolf Spider
I keep the latest one as my avatar, (at the moment) and the last five I create are in my signature.

Anyways, you can go ahead and give suggestions of what puns I can do. It doesn't have to make sense entirely, but just remember to have an idea of what the creature would look like, if it's a creature at all. Most of all, don't forget to have fun! ;)

How about a "Seal of Koala Tea"? I really like that one ;)
Nathan the Talkmaus wrote:I love puns. I'd like to see something kick-ass.
wait

Are you just giving me a compliment (thanks, by the way!) or are you commissioning me to draw something about "Kick Ass"???

Because I'll definitely do a karate donkey if that's what you mean! (no butts though)

That may be difficult, but I have a few ideas for how to do it. :)

Might be hard to adapt. Sounds more like a type of person than a creature to be honest. However, if you'd like me to make a mutant flower wearing a brown robe, I'll definitely do that! :D

Anyways, today's sprite is a "Hush Puppy". If you don't know what the equivalent is in real life, here's a great place to start.

Sorry that I wasn't able to do better. But! I'm practicing. Some are bound to be better than others, but all are bound to be done before the day is over. (quite literally, too)

Anyways, thanks for the replies so far. It's very encouraging for me personally.

I meant both the compliment and the donkey, though for further pun I thought perhaps he might be kicking a butt.

Oh, so it was from a comedy show! I honestly thought it was just something made up on the spot. No wonder it was so hillarious... Thanks for sharing!

Well, unfortunately, I still stand by my case that "Florist Friar" sounds too much like a person than it does like a creature. (after all, I did specify in the title that I'd be drawing creatures) However, if you really want me to draw a person like that, then it's not too much of a big deal. I just think it might not fit in quite as well with the other things.

Also, I was thinking that after today I could start alternating between one of my ideas and a suggested idea. (so today I'll do mine, but tomorrow I'll do someone else's) How does that sound?

I'm.... I'm sorry! I didn't said what I mean! Errm, it was just a tongue of the slip! Wait, cow slip?

In all seriousness, I just meant that the phrase itself was funny, and I was actually quite glad you'd shared it with me. I probably should have mentioned that in the other post, where it would make a lot more sense in context.

at any rate... Here's the "Devil Egg"!

Image

The most fun one by far to create, though I'm sorry it took an extra day to get here.

After this, it's a suggestion! whoopee

Thanks! though the devil egg was definitely not drawn with just one layer, it would've been impossible (or unrealistically hard) to do that way... I used four layers when making it. One for the shape of the egg/dithering of the egg white, (which is actually a lot easier than it seems, compared to other methods of shading such as extended palette) one for the egg yolk, another for the shading around the egg yolk, (yeah... the best way I can explain what I did is that I made a pure black egg outline and set its transparency/alpha level really low) and aother for the face, horns, and limbs. (and trident)

If none of that made sense, here's the paint.net file I created it in.
my suggestion is "hot dog"
Ok, adding to ideas

So before I forget everything, I'm going to write down a list of all the ideas I'm gonna use so far, which are (mostly) listed in the order they'll be created:
Food/House Items

1. Pop Sickle
2. Tape Worm
3. Seal of Koala Tea
4. Hand Soap
5. Pan Cake
6. Chicken Steak
7. Dough Nut
8. Horsey Sauce
9. Pen Pal
10. Type Writer (YES THAT'S MESSED UP)
11. Card Board
12. Egg Spurt (I was actually considering it when I brought it up in the OP)
13. Pig Pen

Garden/Garage-related Things (will come after foods/house items)

1. Grease Monkey
2. Monkey Wrench
3. Fly Wheel
4. Garden Snail
5. Crescent Wrench
6. Florist Friar
7. Earth Quaker

Misc. (These aren't distinct enough to have their own categories yet, and are currently not planned to be done. Thus they're not numbered)

Kick Ass
Goose Bump
Computer Virus
House Spider
Hot Dog
Jabber Talky
Seal of Approval
Ant Lion
Sea Horse
With a special thanks to pholtos for providing a significant amount of ideas.

At any rate, the next one shall be "Pop Sickle"! (once I get it done today)

How about the Thesaurus Rex or Cats-up? I got a few more, but those are two I can think of right now.

The Thesaurus is always an idea I've liked. However, I personally think it sounds weird when it's called the "Thesaurus Rex", because "Tyrannosaurus" has more syllables, and the syllables themselves sound really different from each other. Using catsup/ketchup seems a bit worn-out in my opinion, but that may be just because I've personally seen it used more often. I may add it to the list if someone else wants it there, too.

so, "hot dog" is not on the foods list?

you could add an "animals" category, since you have dog, lion, horse, maybe even virus

Well, I personally think that if I just made a sausage-looking dog, it'd be rather dry. (especially since it's been used before many, many times. Weiner dogs are another name for dachshunds, after all.) All the things I've made so far use something outside of the regular meaning, for example the moth ball doesn't actually look like a moth ball, nor does the hush puppy look like food at all. The devil egg I actually made into a deviled egg just because I thought it added to the joke, (and it wasn't hard to do) but I still gave it a devil-like appearance.

As for the animals category, I thought about doing that, but animals in general just sounds weird because both of the other categories include animals to some extent. I'll just wait until I have more ideas, then I'll make categories about more specific things.

(also, although it's really just a stupid nitpick you probably know already, a real-life virus isn't actually an animal, or even a life form. It fails the classification because it doesn't have the method of self-reproduction, one of the three criteria for classifying a thing as life)

yeah, I thought those may have been the case, but I thought I'd suggest stuff anyway

the virus thing, from what I remember they had no classification so some authors put them in the animals group just because, while other dudes put them as a separate thing, and scientists were debating the stuff and being confused... its been a while since I studied viruses in school

Ahh, it's just a huge mess rather large subject anyway.

At any rate, here's the pop Sickle!

Image

Thanks to pholtos for suggesting. I really liked making this one as well, (even though it's only eleven at night!!!) and I decided to use non-black outlines again. It really adds to the quality in my opinion, and I especially like how the eyes look... just so ridiculous! I was tempted to make it cross-eyed, too. The little splashes of soda are my favorite part, though, since it makes it look alive, rather than something that's just sitting there like the rest of my creations.

Thanks! And yeah I'm really trying hard not to use humans in my drawings. The florist friar and earth quaker are exceptions, but even then I'm still not 100% sure how I'm gonna do them.
