Storage room of images which could be seen as artwork maybe

Post by Unaniem »

I thought this could be fun (and useful if peeps decide to drop some criticism), so why not?

Actual artwork now:
Just a bunch of pieces I am generally satisfied with:
(if an image got chopped off by the forum boarders and you want to see it fully, copy its URL and paste in into another tab!)

Image
One of my most recent works.
I tried doing something just plain weird here, ended up with a really colourful dork guy.

Image
This guy was both influenced by some personal experiences as well as my desire to get a better hold on anatomy, which I still need to get into practising more regularly.

Image
Did I mention I like weird stuff?
The face of the ghost lady here was based on one of those 'idealized' people who appeared in them shoddy '20-'30s adverts. God those things get creepy sometimes.

Image
This is a good example of what my artwork generally looks like. Carefree, bend lines with a lot of exaggerated expressions and a lack of real 'oohmp'.

Image
Some people may have seen this one before.
Posting it here again since I still think its one of my best works (and one of the few that is actually a fully fledged image).

Image
Sprites!

The MOTHER series has been an exceptional influence in a lot of the things that I draw and create for many years now, and having recently replayed MOTHER 3 made me want to make a whole bunch of battle sprites in their specific style.

As you can tell, this is something I too decided to approach rather 'carefree'.
[continued in the next spoiler]
ASXT stuff:
After having made all the foes that appear in the last image of the previous spoiler, I decided to try and do the same thing I did for them, but instead with ASMT/ASXT critters, as they've always been a particular group of critters I've always enjoyed depicting.

Currently there's 9 finished sprites, and I plan on eventually getting all of the A2MBXT 'NPC' folder covered (which will likely take a very long time):
Image
Furba!
Image
Goopa!
Image
This guy! (Farwiel was it I think?)
Image
Cyclops Squid!
Image
Catoboo!
Image
Venus Fly Head!
Image
Skull Slug thingie!
Image
Bombu!
Image
Seriously Frightened Bill!
Critique is always appreciated!

Oh wow! It's like you've managed to pinpoint all of the things I like in a drawing. I'm far from an art expert, but I enjoy how your art can vary from grim to absolutely adorable.

I can definitely tell! I'm definitely getting the same weird vibes along with a "Wait...I have to fight this!?" feeling along with it, haha.
Also, it was probably unintentional, but Disturbed Household and Hostile Household remind me a lot of those brownie monsters from an Aqua Team Hunger Force episode, lol
Love the A2MBXT sprites, and it's nice to actually see them in non-sprite form as well. Looking forward to more of them~

The first thing I thought of when I saw your RPG enemy sprites was MOTHER
Nice job!!!!

(I really need to get around to playing EarthBound Zero, EarthBound and MOTHER 3 sometime)

Your ASMBXT enemy pics are pretty great as well!!!!

P.S.
Kawaiiest OC I've ever seen. GJ

(I'd really like to know why people make Kirby recolors that look like rejected Sonic OCs like seriously)
(I'm a Kirby fan and not even I understand this whole thing)

Many young artists don't grasp the idea of colour harmony yet. Heck, you should've seen some of the things I drew when I was 11 or so.

Spoiler within a spoiler: rainbows
Another sprite, or sprites depending on how you want to see them:
catfish!:
Image
I had some issues with this one, mainly it being rather tough to get a semi-dynamic sprite when the catfish aren't lengthy like eals and lack limb(-like growth)s to shove in all kinds of weird and interesting poses.

They kinda look like balloons in the end, meh.

Thanks, Buncle!

Oh hey it's another sprite you don't see those here often;
Ghosties!
Image
I like this one much better than the one I put up yesterday, and drawing their expressions was a fun time. Getting the "bed sheet" folding down however ain't the easiest thing ever, something else to look into.
I think I'm going to try getting one sprite image out per day, but don't be surprised if there will be a lot of days taken off.

For some reason I can't look at those catfishes without thinking of that one Yoshi boss from VIP 4. Also they look weird without side fins, though I can't really understand if the original design has them.
The ghosts also look nice as everything else, but I'm not sure if the left one looks smug enough.

About two hours and a half including the time to draw the text because I didn't have an appropriate font and I didn't want to just take the one in EarthBound. You're welcome.

Yeah I'd agree that that ghost doesn't look smug enough. These all look super great, though!

That image actually sprung to me too when I was drawing them up. Decided to not really pay much further attention to it than that.

Double image!
First a revision of Smugboo, trying to improve the facial expression;
Image
Also shirking the images down to 2x2 pixels, 3x3 was going overboard really.
And here we have the Butterfly Lakitu guy with a Caterpillar to keep them company:
Image
As I was typing a different comment line down here I noticed it's essentially a butterfly throwing its offspring around. Kind of morbid, depending on how want to look at things.

I really like how you use shadows and the original colors for the sprites. I think you got the expression correct too.

Something that isn't a sprite, huh:

More of Joyman Corpseguy.
I tried stepping out of my comfort zone with this piece and draw a less straightforward pose,

didn't work out too well.

Oh well, improvement one step at the time.
Also a simple border for the sake of having a nice border.

Me and a friend of mine were discussing some House of Squid comics, and we decided to make one ourself:
Image
The concept of House of Squid is that a bunch of guys get together and draw a one-page comic with one person doing one (or two) panels at the time, before passing the page over the next guy. When you decide that there are no rules and consider there was no thought of a plot before a panel is drawn, you can get some really wacky things.

More animation stuff:

"Where are you going, Mr. Bones?"

This was probably one of the more ambitious things I've decided to create.
Up to you to decide whether or not it worked out in the end.
