Aricelle: By Her Wandering Blade -- A Webcomic by me and Rao

Aricelle: By Her Wandering Blade

Aricelle: By Her Wandering Blade is a webcomic written by me (alias DrSunshine) and drawn by raocow. It is the story of an amnesiac martial artist -- named Aricelle -- who wanders a mystical East Asian-inspired realm, having fights and duels with strange characters and creatures, in search of her lost memories.

A kind of "Slice of life" (or, if you will, "Slice of fight") comic, it features a different battle and opponent each chapter, with only the vaguest sort of overarching plot. As time passes and more chapters come out, Aricelle may reencounter various characters, who will develop their own arcs and themes as the story progresses.

Not meant as a continuation or tie-in to our previous work, Artificial Time X.S. or any of the prior "Rao-ian Canon", By Her Wandering Blade is an entirely brand-new story set in its own distinct universe, with its own unique laws.

It's our hope that you will enjoy reading Aricelle's journey as much as we enjoy presenting it.

The comic updates in batches, with a new 20-page chapter every 10 weeks.

ABOUT DANG TIME YOU GUYS POSTED THIS.

Jeeeeeeez.

But yes, amazing project and I do hope I have the state of mind to be able to remember to check in on it every now and then. First chapter has got me absolutely hooked, I love Rao's art quite a bit and the writing is the tiniest bit stereotypical but still fun enough to follow along with.

I had no idea anyone besides me and raocow and the few people who follow our Tumblrs/DeviantArt accounts even knew this existed!

Well, I'm glad you're enjoying it, Bwarch. The plotting is kind of stereotypical, I'll grant you that, but only because we have just the barest justifications each chapter for "introduce new character -> they fight -> the end". I think things should be smoother once we've gotten into a rhythm with the characters and they can interact more organically.

As for InsaneIntentions, currently we have no plans of releasing it as physical volumes, but we're saving the full-res PSDs just in case!

That's how I knew about it, yiss. I think. Dang how did I find out about it? I do believe it was Tumblr though.

Read through today, some pretty good parts, I'll be keeping an eye on this :D
I think you'll find that the title should be "Rao and I"

A case of grammatical overcorrection. The key to this rule is "take out the "and someone else" part and see if it makes sense.

"A webcomic by me" is grammatical.

"A webcomic by I" is not.

Therefore: "A webcomic by me (AND Someone Else)" is the correct wording. "X and I" is used when you're doing something, not describing something.

For example:

"I went to the movies".

Thus:

"(He AND) I went to the movies."

I just reread chapter 2 and it's significantly better than the 1st one in my opinion.

Almost. Not that I actually think you should change it (because seriously), but it would be more like "Rao and me" because it's polite to put the other person first. "Me" would still be correct over "I" in this case.

cowrao you really really really really should have put some panels in the preview video. You're advertising the comic without actually showing the comic and I just feel like there's going to be a major turnoff there for people to actually check out the comic without seeing more than a fraction of a panel.

I am a TERRIBLE judge of my own art and I have no idea what would be a turn on vs a turn off.

I know! That doesn't make me any better at it though!

Also me not wanting to spoil anything that could be funny, and stuff.

This is hard!

Just, don't do anything for a few days. I have a project I'm going to try for this. Put together a video myself and throw it over to you and see what you think.

I think it's funny how relatively confident I am about my videos vs my drawn stuff/comics, haha.

I will be waiting with much impatience.
