Another great year for video games in 2018. They might just stick around! Which game was the best one released this year to you?

We're having this already? Ok

Celeste

So many contenders but I'm gonna eliminate the late comers (sorry Smash U)

Celeste, definitely.

A very moving story that touched me in a personal way, and gameplay that kept me engaged all the way through from beginning to end.

I haven't played many of 2018's main GOTY candidates besides Celeste, and I think it's certainly deserving of the win, but for me it has to be Wandersong. Partly because personal bias toward the creator, but also because it's just so charming and funny and elegantly-designed and it does awesome stuff with its narrative and gameplay.

Deltarune

I guess since it's not the full game, maybe it doesn't count, but this is the most enjoyable game I played this year.

Great writing, fun RPG mechanics, a fantastic soundtrack, what's not to like?

Return of the Obra Dinn

An investigative mystery game with investigative gameplay that actually works well. Super stylish art direction (using a very limited color palette), excellent voice acting, and a compelling story. All by a solo developer.

Celeste but only because Deltarune was just Chapter 1 and it'll have its time in the spotlight eventually

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I think I've played through less than ten games released this year, so it's just a vote for whatever at this point. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon would be my runner-up. It's basically Castlevania III meets Rondo of Blood in design, and those are my two favorite 2D Castlevanias. Smash just has the content to keep me playing for a good while, and the content gives it what it needs to push it to the top spot.

Guacamelee 2

Because no one else is going to vote for it.
Because diversity.
Because it's one of only two games released this year that I *played* this year.
And because it is still a good game, despite all I've said. :P

Kirby Star Allies really 360'd from being the most disappointing game to becoming my favorite of the year once all the content updates were finished. It finally feels like a 60 dollar game.

Shoutouts to DQXI though.

Katamari Damacy ReRoll

There were a few other contenders for the spot in my opinion (including the aforementioned Guacamelee! 2) but I figured that I had the most fun playing KDR, only having trouble with two of the regular levels.
