I was under the impression the latest LunaLua stuff required a2xt's executable. I could switch it to SMBX 1.3.0.1, but that links to the SMBX forums. Would it be possible to get a version that links to the talkhaus? That would be ideal.

Also, the reason I'm not using the latest a2xt executable is that it links to a page that gives VB errors or something idk. It's super annoying to have to cancel out a couple times to do anything.
the latest one has raocow.com on the splash screen...

If you want to change it, just open smbx.exe in a hex editor, and I think do a string search for http://supermariobrosx.org see this.

Also: No, I'm playing Super Mario Japan right now in SMBX 1.3.0.1 with SDL2 and LunaLua just fine.

How are we...THERE ARE SO MANY ENTRIES.

Are ALL the levels going to be featured in the final thing?

Hopefully not.

You know, there were about 200 entrants last year, but 134 or something submitted their level.

It'ss be interesting to see if there are more than 200 submissions this year. If they're using a HUB, you can only have max 200 warps.

Well then, it's going to have to either be a map or a combination of maps and hub levels.

OK, here's an archive with SMBX 1.3.0.1, LunaDLL/LunaLua/SDL2 with the regular SMBX exe modified to change the splash screen to the talkhaus wiki (the talkhaus itself gives script errors). Also fixes the sounds, as some of the sound effects if your DevKit were broken.

Hmm... I may have to start playing around with LunaLua this weekend, to get a feel for it before we get our level names handed out... :geek:

Alright, so when I test a level in the SMBX editor my custom song doesn't play, but it plays while I'm editing...What gives.

It is in mp3 and the whole song has no issue playing while editing, I even got it to loop perfectly.

This is just me practicing level design , so I'm not sure where I should be posting this but it shouldn't hurt to post it here I don't think.

It's "Make a Good Level X" contest. X is from smbx. SMW versions are called MaGL contests.
I know. I remember someone saying that though.

How does this work with Wohl's editor? I only get the option to use 1.3. Is Wohl's editor not set up for later versions yet, or do I need to do something?

Oh, I didn't include that.

Whol's Editor is a seperate thing, Grab the latest version here, then run the exe, seperate from SMBX.

Are you only allowed to use Wohl's editor? And if so why?

Nah, Wohlstands editor just makes everything a bit easier for yourself. The editor has got some neat features like copy+paste, undo button and some more stuff which makes designing levels less tedious.

Basically nearly every feature that's missing from SMBX that it should have. Though currently Wohlstand's editor is missing in-editor testing still since he's still working on the engine portion. (Although people have mentioned workarounds for that which is simple enough.)

I know, it's crazy, isn't it? There's no way of distinguishing between quicksand and water in the original editor. If that isn't a huge oversight, I don't know what is and what is the point of having secret NPC sprites anyway?

Feeling pretty anxious to be getting the level name choices and such...

Have been playing around a bit with LunaLua and have various ideas... of course most of them will surely not be applicable to the level theme so, will have to come up with more I'm sure...

Any tips for a first timer? Just don't want to muck it up too badly, but probably will since it will be my first level. So looking forward to getting started.
Don't open the spoiler, or the Picklesaurus Rex will eat everyone!

You had to open it didn't you... Now the entire Talkhaus is doomed.

That seems counter-intuitive, since the goal is to make the best level you can. But at the very least I can learn from any mistakes I make.

See the following for example:

Here are some more tips. A lot of them are subjective, contradictory, situational, outdated, and/or don't represent the general opinion in one community or another. Some of them might still be helpful though.

Far better to mess things up royally trying to make a really interesting and unique level than play it safe and make a forgettable, boring one.

My first SMBX level came last in a contest (MAGKLX), but it was a level consisting primarily of me doing odd things with the engine. It wasn't a well crafted level, by any means, but it was certainly somewhat interesting. It did mean that by the time I made my second level, I had a good grasp of the engine, and managed to create a level that was both interesting and fun to play.

And that's why troll levels end up in these things.

Granted, there's a fine line between "bad, but interesting and/or humorous" and "too poorly made for redeeming factors like those to work".
*shrug*

will fix/replace the image down here eventually
