Re: MaGL X2 Discussion (Final-Final Count: 272 Entries!)
Oh geez, what happens if I do well and people like my level and there are YouTube comments about me? .~. I can't even process the idea of coming to the forums one day and everyone goes "oh man that level was awesome". Is it embarrassing when someone says they really loved your level or it was their favorite?
I regularly stream on Twitch! with other members of the talkhaus. Come watch Monday, Tuesday and Friday at 2PM for blind playthroughs and Pokémon and Touhou and stuff. Come hang out with us!

It is a little embarrassing, in that I'm not always sure of how to respond to it. The feeling of accomplishment does help a lot.RenaTurnip wrote:Is it embarrassing when someone says they really loved your level or it was their favorite?
Edit: people are always interested to hear about the level in question and how it was made. Kind of like a short developer's commentary. Some people wrote those during A2XT.
Every level should get some feedback as a reward for participating. raocow LP, and the comments are all part of it.
Re: MaGL X2 Discussion (Final-Final Count: 271 Entries!)
I used all seven cards. Some of them are much less obvious in implementation than others but they all informed various parts of the battle.
I'm on another forum where there's a lot of love for danmaku in an actual danmaku engine and I'm legit tempted to run a contest sometime with this gimmick where you get a set of cards and you have to design danmaku spell cards for 3 of them.FluffiMasta wrote:I was going to do something like magic card = spell card, that means that you either have to dodge bullets or something with the environment around you happens. But eh, at the time I got the cards I only had 4 hours left...

It gives me a huge grin whenever people say things like "I love your level design" or "Kood and Iris in A2MBXT were good in the cutscenes" or any other complement of my work.RenaTurnip wrote:Is it embarrassing when someone says they really loved your level or it was their favorite?
Like this: :D
EDIT: The heck? The forum just messed up my posting.
Yep, that was mine. And you'll see a bossfight and level from me in Maglx 2, though my level-level is pretty short-'n-sweet type.Kapus wrote:Was that your level? I think you do some pretty neat level design. I'd love to see more from you!

I suppose it would only be embarrassing to one who was so insecure that it would be difficult to accept that something they made had had a good reception.

I don't have a particular favorite, but some MAGLX levels that I really liked last year included:
- Dudes (I know it was one of the lower tier levels, but it was just so amusing to watch).
- Fortress of Trains (Awesome implementation of the level name. Possibly my favorite one.)
- Mission - Proud Sky (Best of the "bottom tier" levels by far. "Nailed it")
- It's a SMB1 Level, Except Way More Nicer (Hilarious level)
- My Own Take on Donut Plains 2 (Love the graphics)
- Wait, That's Now How It Happened (Fun in its own way)
- Too Many Forts in this Mother****ing Mountain (Going inside of the castles was pretty fun)
- Shaken, Not Stirred (Hilarious plus the level looked fun to play)

Not gonna lie, I'm super flattered that some of you folks liked Dudes! I had almost zero experience with the engine last year and made it on a whim, haha. I guess I'm disappointed with my level this year because it doesn't compare well in my mind to Dudes, even though I put 10x as much effort towards it. But thanks!
I'm probably driving right now.

Count me in on the Dudes bandwagon. It's easily in my top five from MAGLX.zmonbobbo wrote:Not gonna lie, I'm super flattered that some of you folks liked Dudes! I'm curious how the rankings would change from MAGLX if we were to collectively vote on them a year later. The love for levels like Proud Sky, Dudes, and Bowser's Oldest Fortress suggests that the official rankings have little bearing on what the general Talkhaus members recall and enjoy. Think of it like a People's Choice award vs. The Oscars.

That's a pretty sizeable number I think... I'm sure they won't take as long to play as full levels for sure, but yeah.Horikawa Otane wrote:31 bosses

4) I do like my Mysterious Ocean Levels don't I?
3) I hate Jumping When it's So Pitiful Outside

1) Desert Oasis Fort
Favorite from the postgame:
The Plot
Personally, one of my biggest hopes is that my level can match some of my favorites such as Desert Oasis Fort and The Plot in terms of silliness. I might've gone a bit overboard on the cheesiness of the dialogue though.

With 272 levels that's like 8-9 levels for each boss! Sounds neat if that's how it's going to be organized.Horikawa Otane wrote:31 bosses

I wish I had had time to make a level for this, but man am I looking forward to watching this Let's Play.
Hopefully it's the most extravagant one yet, and not the most draining, but we'll see right?

Re: MaGL X2 Discussion (Final-Final Count: 272 Entries!)
Kind of. I mean, ultimately it depends, but a lot of gimmicky or silly levels are listed here probably more for being memorable and leaving a wide smile on your face. That can be a very different kind of appeal from a level that's strong in design and challenge and atmosphere, but it doesn't necessarily mean they have to be the best levels.WestonSmith wrote:I'm curious how the rankings would change from MAGLX if we were to collectively vote on them a year later. That was more than I thought, but that's about one boss per 9-ish levels, which seems fair!Horikawa Otane wrote:31 bosses

31 bosses for 272 levels...
Makes me anticipate whoever's boss gets to be the "Final Boss" of each of the 2 episodes.

man, i've never played Magic: The Gathering before so I didn't know any of the technically talk of the cards so I took all the cards SUPER literally x3
one of the descriptions of a card sounded like a Hard mode name from Horikawa so I went with that
aaaaanywayas my unused cards
