[138] Perturbing Paste

Postby MiracleWater » 7 months ago

Not a whole lot of activity in this section, hopefully someone sees this.

Only posting the patch because i'm looking for feedback (and possibly a suggestion for a name).
Isn't that hard of a level, maybe somewhere mid-game.

I really like the second half of this level, even if there are some issues. However, the first half does not introduce the gimmick properly at all. For instance, I did not know that you could "swing up" if the corner of a wall has the pink glue. It took me a very long time to figure out. There should be a proper introduction to that mechanic with safe ground underneath so that players can test out what they can do. You don't necessarily need a message box; just safe ground.

Some of the placements of the venus plants are extremely annoying. Please fix them.

The usage of the Banzai Bills was pretty good, but some of them felt like ambushes (I didn't have any time to react to the one with the three falling platforms, in the second half).

I'll upload a video of my experience of the level soon, so you can see what I struggled on and what parts weren't clear enough.

Name suggestion: Perturbing Paste? (reference to Palatable Perturbation in JUMP)

Thanks for the feedback, I will definitely make some changes. Once you get your video up i'll take a look at the more specific things like the annoying venus plants (not exactly sure which ones you're talking about).

Also I like that name, thanks.

Made some changes based on feedback:

- Added small section to introduce gimmick better
- Moved around some venus plants so they come out of pipes rather than just the ceiling
- Removed a power-up in the second half that seemed redundant
- Some Banzai Bill setups changed to be more fair
- Added a few reset doors for the second half
- Changed flower ? block to always mushroom in second half

Here's my suggestion to fix conveyance issues

They'll try to drop down on it by leaving the edge and realize they're going upwards instead.

Well in that case perhaps a rope platform would give more leeway when the player is surprised rather than a falling platform. But whatever

Minor bug report: The corner goo tiles have no side interaction, which lets you clip inside walls. I don't think this can be used to skip anything, but you can probably get softlocked in the level this way so you might want to fix this.

I apparently had fixed the side interaction but forgot to re-insert blocks, whoops. Thanks for pointing this out.

- Fixed block side interaction
- Small tweaks to a few enemy positions
