A2XT Gaiden 2 RELEASE!!! (SMBX2)

It's finally here! The SMBX2 episode we made for Advent 2021, A2XT Gaiden 2, is now available to download. Now you too can deliver a devastating Pilydriver (thanks AngleBrackets!) to the forces of the dastardly Government and rescue Christmas from a caging catastrophe!

Like with the first game, this episode is structured like an advent calendar: each number on the level select corresponds to a level or cutscene featuring an encounter with one or more characters from raocow's past LPs. Some levels even contain a boss fight or two! The doors were time-locked during raocow's playthrough, but this release version allows you to freely scroll through the days so you can access and play all of this game's contents in any order you'd like! It also contains additional polish and bugfixes from the version raocow played in December.

Unlike the first game, there are no achievements this time around. Instead, here's a list of possible optional challenges you can take on when playing through the game if you'd like! Pick and choose which ones you want to take on and gauge your own success or failure of them; the power is in YOUR hands! (Or feet!)

• Play each day's content on the corresponding calendar day (November 30 through December 26) for pointless authenticity

• Find all the strange cats in cloud planet (Day 1)

• Collect all the raocoins in the levels that have them

• Defeat all the fish in A White Castle-like Experience (Day 14)

• Complete the quest list in They Took Over The Church??? (Unexpected) (Day 19)

• Destroy all the cameras in Xtreme Yuletide Zigzags (Day 24)

• Re-fight Hatsun with one or both of the postgame limits enabled

• Defeat one or more of the game's bosses without getting hit

NOTE: As the sequel to SANICS A2XT Gaiden 1, this game canonically takes place after the events of A2XT2 Episode 2, which is still in development as of writing this. Though this game doesn't spoil any of Episode 2's major events or plot details, the epilogue does tie into it in a few small but substantial ways, including the appearance of one character from the game and mentions of others.

Aaand it sounds like there’s an issue with the download. I’ll sort it out when I get the chance and update the zip on google drive accordingly, then if it’s a simple fix (I can’t confirm yet but I think it’s a single-file bug) I’ll post instructions to fix it so nobody has to redownload the full thing or apply a patch.

-changes cloud blocks to a solid one around the stopwatch to prevent it from being collected from below
-due to that, the mushroom would be stuck there. if it escapes, i added code so that you will only die if its collected
-the saws in the saw room arent hidden so i hide it. sorry about that.
-the last warp is moved half a screen downwards.

other things: i cant test is on the editor for some reason

Belated response on my part as well because irl stuff, but even so... you had all of December and January to submit changes for the release version, so I'm a bit confused as to why you waited until now? Also, feel free to keep using the development threads in the no-cows forum; all the organizers should still be getting notifications from those whereas I think I'm the only one who's notified by posts in this thread.

In any case, I'll make sure these fixes are in the v1.1.0 patch. But in the future, please don't wait until several days after the last minute to update your submissions for a collab if you can help it.

Edit: That error seems familiar, I think we might've either already fixed it...? Is that appearing in the release version or are you trying to open it in the devkit? Also, are you playing with Beta 4 Patch 4 w/ Hotfix? (I mistakenly mentioned Patch 3 instead of Patch 4 in the OP before, but I've since fixed that.) I'm also a bit puzzled as to what that "NO DC" in the corner means, I've never seen that before.

Edit2: I can't reproduce the emote error, the level doesn't seem to use the emote library at all, and rednaxela says the NO DC isn't a thing in SMBX so... ??????

apparently it's an error code for nvidia geforce
Basically it's a corrupt settings file in the graphics drivers
Needs the settings reset to default

Try seeing if you can reset your graphics driver's settings and check whether that fixes the "NO DC" and error popup.

i ask about the no dc before in the smbX discord but no one answered. i reseted all the settings on nvidia and it works. ty.

A full month later, patch 1.1.1 is available!
(1.1.1 because I realized I missed something after making the 1.1.0 build and... look it's just a whole thing)


CHANGES:

Calendar screen:

• fixed being able to activate the credits when the prompt for it isn't visible

• fixed switching between holding run and jump not resetting the opposite timer variable

cloud planet:

• the changes wyldstrykr mentioned

• changed an instance of "phily" in the dialogue to "pily"

IMPORTANT KNOWN ISSUE:
the title sequence's effects have a rare chance of throwing one or more errors. I was not able to reproduce the errors reliably enough to figure out exactly what's breaking or how to fix it, but if you click OK on any error popup(s) instead of Cancel the sequence can still proceed (mostly) as normal.

Unless someone can figure out the title sequence errors or finds another major bug I can reproduce and fix, this is probably going to be the last update.
