I've been rewatching raocow's Invasion 2 LP and got to the part where he mentions repurposing SMBX using ASMT/A2MT stuff (The whole thing that started the ASMBXT thing in the first place) and I got thinking... He mentioned removing all the Nintendo copyrighted stuff with new stuff. ASMBXT has done a great job at that but I think there is still something to be done.

How about changing every single block, enemy, sprite, pipes, etc. Make it completely different from start to finish (As much as the engine allows). The ASMBXT projects are doing great but I there still are many blocks that are left unmodified (Question blocks, bricks, etc..)

I'm talking a major endeavor to make every graphic and sound different so that if someone just looked he wouldn't think "Mario" until further inspection.

Make ? blocks something different, make bricks something different, make the grass tiles something different... You probably all get the idea already.

Good news: Something like this is already happening! Actually, even more: They're improving SMBX in lots of ways, fixing some of its messy code, renaming it, and changing the mario-franchise graphics. You'll be able to use old SMBX levels with this new engine.

EDIT: I'm trying and failing to find a link to this thing. It's not taking place on the forums, but alex2 is working with the person who's doing it, so we should be fairly in-the-loop about its progress.

I thought that part was impossible due to the code not being open and redigit being an ass about it by not releasing it..?

I believe what they're doing is figuring out as much information as they can about the code and analyzing the .lvl format and etc. and then coding something from scratch that can read smbx files mostly accurately.
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

Oh, it's being built entirely from scratch? Nice! This thing could be amazing, having learned all the lessons we've learned from SMBX.
