Yeah, sounds about right.

MLP is a lot like dubstep - the people who like it really like it, but you're going to be scaring away far more people than you would if you used an alternative.

Yes, let's keep talking about My Little Pony! Seriously, are ponies out of the question? One class path wouldn't be too bad.
Myrmidon > Swordmaster: Katana person, Swordmaster
Fighter > Warrior: Fighter > Revolutionary
Archer > Sniper: Rifleman > Marksman
Mercenary > Hero: Minutemen> Captain 2 Free Classes
Knight (Armor Knight) > General: Sheep Rider > Fluffy Tank
Thief > Assassin: this is good
Pirate > Berserker: Furry(mountain-cross only)? > Berseker
Cavalier > Paladin: Brony Knight(alternate brony path) > Pony
Nomad > Nomad Trooper: Cave Elf(for AZCT) > Elf Hero (They get promoted when AZCT goes public)
Pegasus Knight > Falcon Knight: Llama Rider, Llama Master
Wyvern Rider > Wyvern Lord: Horseknight(Yoshi) > Blue Horseknight
Monk / Cleric > Bishop: Patcholite / Healer > Priest of Patchouli
Troubadour > Valkyrie: Artist > Artist Wizard
Mage > Sage: Student > War Wizard
Shaman > Druid: Hacker > ASMer
Dancer: Catplanet (One hit targets on the enemy's side that makes the enemy go again?)
Bard: Flag Bearer
Cosair: Rabid Furry (water cross?)
Civilian: Talkhauser
Archsage
Dark Druid (Final boss final stage)
Bramimond - raocow normal
Fire Dragon (Final boss stage?)
Prince Recurring Pony Boss
Soldier Pony Boss's minions?

Free Class - If Horikawa has only one lord class.
Don't male/female forms count as different classes in the code? Also, do I even have the number of possible classes right (42, plus 5 lord positions already used)?

How about Spriter > AnimatorHorikawa Otane wrote:Actually I really like Artist > Better Artist.
(Maybe Spriter > Comic Artist though?)
I think the Troubadour is a weird unit in general. I read about it on the wiki and it's a medic on horseback, more or less. The replacement class line could possibly be a different type of mage.
As I understand tomes, there will be three magic types with tomes. I don't know how magic function but I suggest Art, Hack, and Wind. I don't know how well fighting and magic classes can be mixed.
This seems like information we have to be sure about. Counting as the same class in the code with identical names is somewhat likely given the console. We could come up short if we aren't careful, although I suppose sprite can be gender ambiguous.Clemasterable wrote:I think they only have different sprites but count as the same class?Don't male/female forms count as different classes in the code?IIRC, yesAlso, do I even have the number of possible classes right (42, plus 5 lord positions already used)?

Dammit, now I kind of want it to be Artist > Better Artist just for the "Uh... what the hell?" factor. But as far as being serious goes, I really like Spriter > Animator.
Basically it comes down to how Silly vs Serious we want to be.

To answer the gender question... Yes, the game separates classes into separate genders. To get a female cavalier, you need to select the class female cavalier.
In some cases, like fighters, there is no female variant.

Actually no. You see, the game uses a little less than 100 slots for different classes, but thanks to the art of array expansion, you can have up to around 255 classes.KingTwelveSixteen wrote:So does that mean technically we have a bit less than double the classes we think we have?

Magic follows a Light > Dark > Anima > Light triangle similar to weapons. Art/Hack/Wind are certainly interesting ideas if a 'logical' triangle can be agreed on (either Art > Hack > Wind > Art or Art > Wind > Hack > Art)Septentrion Pleiades wrote:As I understand tomes, there will be three magic types with tomes. Weapons and magic cannot be mixed in the GBA games (as units/classes have either Strength OR Magic for their attack stat, not both)
I wanted to express surprise at this, but I guess it does make sense since the male and female versions of each class have different stat caps.markyjoe1990 wrote:To answer the gender question... And it looks like there's theoretically no limit to available class spots, hooray! In that case I think Septentrion's "Catplanet" class idea could potentially be interesting, though I'm not sure how well the balance will work (or if there can even be AI for enemy Dancer-type units?). That also means Mercenary > Hero could stay in without worry for limits.
EVERYBODY READ THIS BECAUSE THIS IS KIND OF A BIG DEAL:Septentrion Pleiades wrote:So limits aren't a problem. So we just need to worry about getting a spriter now?
Entirely changing a class/creating a brand-new one will necessitate a lot of spriting/animating in order to make that class actually visually functional. Here's a list of various animations from FE7, and note that each one is done frame-by-frame. So if there's going to be substantial class changes from the default stuff, we'd need people that can actually do that amount of work, and do it in Fire Emblem's style.
Something to keep in mind!!!
My own recommendation (if we want this game to actually happen) would be to do as little visual changes as possible (though changing horses/pegasi/wyverns to different stuff at the least would be nice for sure) and just rename all the classes instead, but I'm not the one in charge of the project, of course. If there's people that can do the work, then so be it!

I wouldn't mind having a class that's a joke in and of itself about me being a recurring/optional boss guy.

Re: Characters, Classes and Magic
Can you attribute different sprites to the same class? I doubt it? So here's an idea; what if we use the basic renamed classes for the first versions of the game and as we add more chapters and stuff to the game we also make everybody have their separate class so that they can have sprites differences but still use the title and stats they had in the earlier versions. Ex: 2 Fighters would have different sprites but they would still upgrade their stats like each other.

How about a Gunslinger class? Or anything that has to do with guns as weapons??
