humanity has been saved from another vgm guessing contest,, but will it last?
Thanks for playing gamers, I actually expected this to go much worse than it should have, and it didn't? I still feel bad I went apeshit at Crow, honestly. Did I have fun running this? IDK, I'm just glad it didn't go out of control when I was sleeping at stupid ass times per day.
The Rogues' Gallery
1. Mission 1 - Double Dragon
Found by: 5 people.
I haven't played this series yet, but I do intend to go through the first two games, the really bad third one, Super, and the modern ones (Neon, 4, the last one) if I can. MAYBE the really bad Korean one GungHo published if I have enough strength, but the true ending in that one is bullshit to get, unhinged shit. I think I first heard this song in an early 2000s fangame by Yuski? (Felipe Marcantonio, X-Dragoon guy)
2. Bob's Pizza - Shenmue
Found by: 0 people.
I first heard this in hazel's videos I think? The closest I've gotten to playing Shenmue was this one unfinished 2d remake with Sonic sprites called "ShenSonic" from the early 2000s, distinctly remember they managed to code in the stray cat sidequest. Anyway the three Shenmues are on my plate, deffo. ボ・ブ・ズ・ピィーザァー
3. Techno Hill Act 2 - Sonic Robo Blast 2
Found by: 2 people.
Actually part of my childhood, I think v1.09.4 was the first game I ever really brainrotted about. It was the first online community I ever joined and got cyberbullied on too lmao. Bomb ass game but the controls are really weird, even now that they've been adjusted. Really need to go through some more level packs, finish the main campaign and also do the SRB2Kart and Ring Racers campaigns.
4. Palace of the Sea Goddess, Life on Turtle (Part 1) - Goemon's Great Adventure
Partially found by: 3 people.
Actually did not get far in this particular Goemon game (need to play more of em), but I do know 3000 Leagues in Search of Bowser had like a few remakes of its levels for some reason? One of it was this stage, Ryugu Castle. IIRC it looked like a bathroom (it reminded me of Cup's hot springs stage from MaGL1). This song is great.
5. Home - Gungrave
Found by: Mayoh.
I haven't played this game yet, it's on my to do list. I walked into Chip Cheezum playing it once and it looked like the wildest goddamn thing. I need this shit in my life, goth-punk 2000s anime core bullshit is my life, Wild Arms' sheer Trigun energy is why I love that series.
6. Take the Offensive - Front Mission
Found by: Mayoh.
I am actually playing this game, and I gotta say, y'all confusing this for Live-A-Live was the funniest damn thing. Yoko Shimomura has a SPECIFIC way of composing and it shows with almost everything she did for Square, because SMRPG and Street Fighter 2 really doesn't have this specific Kingdom Hearts-core feel. Anyway Front Mission whoops all kinds of ass, please play it, it's a billion times better than Bahamut Lagoon.
7. Boss 3 - RPG Maker 2000
Partially found by: Nast.
RPG Maker is the funniest goddamn engine, it's like. Limited in the stupidest ways but if you know how to use it you can make some fucking wild ass shit with it. Sadly barely anyone bothers putting any effort and would rather just repurpose RTP assets and make a horny game about a succubus with the worst goddamn maps and a bunch of systems taken from the official forums with no care about balancing, truly FATAL-core. Meanwhile here I am trying to make a Star Ocean 2 battle system facsimile in RM2003 because I have actual brain damage.
8. Public Enemy - Devil May Cry
Found by: Mayoh.
Devil May Cry owns but everytime I get a Stylish combo in the first game it doesn't feel right? It feels like I'm just mashing the sword repeatedly instead of putting in skill. IDK maybe it's because the combo system isn't really fleshed out yet compared to maybe 3? I am taking the time to level up my stuff in each level despite it resulting in mediocre ranks at the end, a low upgrade run may be fun. This /is/ a pure action game after all. Oh yeah several of you also put in Shadow the Hedgehog and that's incredibly funny. Shadow - the normal one, not the one that's just "haha im sonic's edgy rival >:) fuck you sonic" - would absolutely play DMC.
9. Forest Replay - Sega Rally Championship
Found by: 0 people.
Car games are cool,,, I am actually in the middle of trying to ace Daytona USA on Saturn and it's pretty fun learning the Advanced Course. Powersliding is a bitch though. Takenobu Mitsuyoshi is the coolest damn guy, and I'm glad he looks like someone's dorkiest damn dad. I'd buy him a beer and drive him back to his wife after he gets plastered.
10. search and destroy - Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai
Found by: 2 people.
I haven't read these VNs yet, but I have a lot of experience watching clips and oto-MADs of the anime when I was younger and it may have been a bit of a formative work for me? Turns out horror is neat when it isn't watered down into being 50 jumpscares a minute and VHS tapes of cutesy mascots doing the Walten Files mouth. Who'd have thunk it?????? (i hate mascot horror so much I'm NOT sorry)
11. Time Lapse - Tokyo Afterschool Summoners
Found by: 0 people.
This is the sleeper agent activation pick. I wanted someone to realize what this is and be so conflicted about whether they should reveal what it is and expose themselves for having zero taste, or if they should keep themselves mum and waste 2 points, maybe even 4. Anyway Housamo has good ass character designs, but apparently it's been up the wall with underage characters recently which doesn't shock me. Gameplay is mediocre as gachas are wont to do. One of the dudes who did Barong is also a shitlord, and I hope he chugs bleach.
12. The Seven Devils (Arranged) - Bunny Must Die! Chelsea and the 7 Devils
Found by: 0 people.
Been playing this game recently and it's honestly one of the best I've played in a while. Very sad no one found this. PLEASE play Bunny Must Die, it's so damn good. Also if the Woofle who arranged this for the rerelease is the Woofle I think it is I think they also did music for Sonic Megamix's unreleased finished 4.0 build. AEjuMurasame my beloved
13. Departure - Kaze no Notam
Found by: Mayoh.
This game owns because it is a hot air balloon simulator in the most literal way possible. None of it is really gamified other than giving you some goals to do in each stage. The core of the gameplay is literally rising or lowering your balloon to take advantage of the winds' direction at each altitude and, that's goddamn beautiful to me. It's the same vibes I get with NiGHTS into Dreams' setting and background that give color to its score attack arcade-y nature. It /is/ technically seen as a kusoge in Japan, but I feel like seeing it only as that is reductive. It's a terrible video game, yes, but as a little goofy piece of art it's actually kinda neat. It's fun to just vibe out in a lowpoly landscape and be pushed around by the winds with barely any control of your own.
idk man, Artdink is like one of the best developers on the PlayStation, full stop.
14. Battle 4 - Puyo Puyo Fever
Found by: 2 people.
I pirated the PC version when I was younger (I think off Puyo Nexus?) and this was like part of my early teenhood. Fucking loved this game, and it's why I'll defend the Fever bullshit to the death, despite the Madou Monogatari fuckers having better aesthetics. I would have also taken any answer for a game that had this specific song in it so, Puyo Fever 2? No. Puyo 20th? Yes. It's dumb, but this is a non-serious contest unlike the SMWC ones that actually have Steam game prizes for some ungodly reason.
15. Brilliant 2U - Dance Dance Revolution 2nd Mix
Found by: 3 people
Partially found by: Oddwrath.
For some reason DDR was a big part of my childhood despite not really playing it? I almost used the Parodius Collection remix of this in my first ever SMBX stage for like. MaGLX? It was terrible, just a bunch of wooden constructs in space (honestly that owns in retrospect) and at one point there's just a Digimon Frontier reference partway through (the part in the opening where the kids are on top of a Trailmon's carriages). I also would have accepted any answer as long as it had this specific song in it. Dancing Stage Euromix is kosher, DDRMAX is not because it has no Brilliant 2U. DDR would just be accepted as the series name, because the first game didn't have this song.
16. Phases of the Moon - Clannad
Found by: Mayoh.
Actually first heard this in a video game DnB song megamix video. Someone put this as "(or episode 10 of Nyan Neko Sugar Girls)" and we love to see it, but Clannad looks fucking cool as hell, the fact it really gets into some deep pathos sounds fucking cool, but personally I will play (read) a lewd-free version. H-scenes don't seem to add anything here, they just seem like they were grandfathered in by virtue of being a Japanese game on Windows, like with Fate/stay night. Key is good at what they do, I guess.
17. Valestein Castle - Ys III: Wanderers from Ys
Found by: 2 people.
Partially found by: Mayoh.
Ys III is especially funny because, I played it for the first time in a while on the SNES version and it shocked me so hard with how TERRIBLE it played that I was like. "Yo....... Was this game always this dogshit????" And then I replayed the PC Engine version on a whim and turns out that no, Advanced Communication just did such a goddamn dreadful job in the SNES version that it feels like dogshit to play. And yet so many goddamn Gen X'ers played that version first? Man I'm so sorry for y'all, even if you can deal with it and think it's fine. I will send you a billion TurboGrafx-CDs and a billion copies of the PC Engine version. Anyway, Ys Seven Dogi is cute as a button, absolute Intelligent Systems energy. I will kiss him and feel his moosclés
Oh yeah I haven't finished Ys V Expert yet.
18. Boss 4 - Digimon Sapphire
Found by: No one.
This is one of like a few specific Fuck You picks, which the Housamo one was technically one as well. This game is weirdly a brainworm to me, because I found this in noted bootleg game dumper Taizou's old channel I think? And I was just fascinated at how it looked playable compared to a lot of bootleg games despite some of its rougher parts, it's actually super neat. I would wind up befriending Taizou at random on Twitter later on and I still have him on my Discord DMs, but I think he's stopping with the dumping for now. didgitmons
19. Clear Heart - Summon Night 3
Found by: No one.
This is another one of those picks. Summon Night whoops so much ass and I'm so pissed that only two of the later, more mid entries (according to JP fans) actually got into our hands. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway idk this game is a personal brainworm too and the fact I'm not playing it rn is because I'm grinding a bit to try and actually beat it because I had a Strategy RPG moment where I accidentally made the game nigh-unplayable to me. Like Summon Night 1&2 aren't too hard, 2 has some difficulty spikes here and there and the final boss can be kind of a dick, but SN3 like goes apeshit, several difficulty spikes and actually unhinged AI. It's so good. I'm so glad we at least got Swordcraft Story 1&2 and Twin Age, Swordcraft Story 1&2 are fun as hell and Twin Age looks like peak cozy, I need to play that one after SCS3, SN4 and Ex-These. Isometric Strategy RPGs are peak gaming.
20. Pathos Zophar - Silhouette Mirage
Found by: No one.
You are all COWARDS for not getting this one. Silhouette Mirage is a super good game, probably my fave Treasure game (I need to add it to my fave games list on Backloggery, I only have Alien Soldier on there), and the Western PSX version is fucked to hell and back because Working Designs "Working Designed" all over it by trying to alter its balance to make it less prone to rentals and day 1 returns like they did to Thunder Force V. I'm ambivalent to the script, like, it feels kinda worse, but that's just an effect of Working Designs taking their shit not too seriously, my biggest concern is really the gameplay. Anyway this game is basically Ikaruga as a 2D run n gun and also you can't really phase through bullets. It owns. Some of my favorite character designs ever too, TripleQ's Shyna fanart is one of the first things I faved on FA, I think. Play this plsssss
21. Factory Action - Turrican 3
Found by: Mayoh.
Partially found by: Oddwrath
Technically it's the Mega Turrican rendition, but. Anyway I played Turrican 1 on WinUAE the other month and it was super fun. I had to use infinite lives, but it's just a solid as hell game. Compare it to the other one I played through, which was Shadow of the Beast that. Had impressive vibes and graphics and what not, but the gameplay was a damn meme. Turrican owns, and it's a series I've always fucked with. I don't know how I discovered it, it may have been from people on Talkhaus bringing up The Great Bath? Anyway, I used to play Super Turrican 1 and Mega Turrican a bunch. Good stuff, some of my fave Western-made games.
22. Endorphin (Boss 1) - Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label
Found by: Valentine.
Okay so first things first, I'm not surprised this uploader has a Rance avatar (derogatory). Secondly, yeah no the description is right, the other upload sounded like the audio equivalent of goddamn mentos and coke. DoDonPachi owns, I'm terrible at it compared to Touhou, but Touhou isn't as hard, slower and less hectic bullets. But I like its vibes and its bits of lore. I've wanted to recreate the Daifukkatsu cover with a male giant for the longest time, not even as a kink thing. It's just uniquely my aesthetic. Anyway good shooty game, I like blowing up military weapons and collecting funny bee icons and Dying
23. Culture Shock - Fortress 2 Blue
Found by: Valentine.
This song sounds like One Must Fall 2097. Anyway Fortress 2 is neat, I like how they made an online Worms clone with aesthetics that are just as cute as the og Worms. It even got ported to the arcades? The gaming history of parts of the world that aren't America or Japan are so damn fascinating to me, even the UK and the UK is like the distant third in terms of big names. This one is set as an easy song because of Cool or Cruel. I will say this though, I REALLY need to finish Astonishia Story on DOS and Fantasia Sango on Windows, the former seems to be a bit short-ish, but the latter seems to be of a decent length. May take me roughly 25 hours, not taking into account the occasional pausing I do with the Universal Pause Button program to OCR the dialogue more easily.
24. Poloy Forest - Tails Adventure
Found by: 3 people.
Actually a sleeper pick for one of the best Sonic games period. Need to replay this, it's like a pseudo metroidvania? Instead of it being stages that lead to one another, you pick out from a map and iirc can leave the stages as is, so it's closer to Clash at Demonhead but the map isn't just there to help you see where you're going, which effectively makes it less of a pure metroidvania than Clash is. Super good game, do play it, even if you don't like Sonic games. There's like 0 Momentums.
25. Bit Crusher - Tekken 4
Found by: Mayoh.
I actually haven't played Tekken 4 in ages, and even then I think it was mostly my sister and brother who did. My sister mained Christie, btw. Do not remember who my brother went for, nowadays I go for King, or maybe Bob. I felt like having a Tekken song, but I didn't really know which lol. Tekken 4 King is so good btw. Marduk looks good too, but he's way too damn edgy. Fundoshi Heihachi just does not work, I prefer Heihachi with the hakama or gi. I still can't believe they gave Eddy the Killmonger haircut, the world is going to shit. So much for the tolerant left... /j
26. Jingle Town - Snowboard Kids 2
Found by: 2 people.
In retrospect, I should have gone for VS Dinosaur/Snowman, super good remix of this song. Snowboard Kids owns and has absurdly good music, Racjin does good work. Also they have furry brainworms like CyberConnect2 does and honestly? Good. We do not acknowledge the DS game in this household btw, even if it has Jack Frost (the good boy). Wendy, Tommy and Jam are the best imo. Mr. Dog is wife. Ruby's design in Plus makes me incredibly uncomfortable btw.
27. Sword of the Unparalleled Emperor - Red Earth
Found by: No one.
Take note this is Leo's theme (lion man on the cover), but also this song just fucks regardless. Red Earth is weird because it's an arcade fighting game where the focus is the single player story mode and they added a bunch of silly RPG elements???? True insane shit, and as usual with a Capcom fighter, the balance is a suggestion, Leo like instantly kills Kenji/Mukuro (the ninja) in a matchup it's not normal. Good ass sprites though, and if you like girls, y'know... Maybe you'd like some of the women in this? There's a cute harpy! Tessa's adorable too! Consider that!
28. Shinshu Field - Okami
Found by: 2 people.
I have NO memories of Okami other than I finished playing it and I was like "yo this is one of the best games I ever played in my life". I should replay it. Amaterasu owns and I actually have an alternate form of my fursona that is literally aping up her/Shiranui and Madeen from FF9's designs. I guess my one concern about Okami is that, it's a bit TOO long for what it is? Idk how to put it into words. Also a friend once said that "the best Zeldas are the ones you play as a wolf" and honestly? She's right. I haven't played Twilight Princess yet though.
29. Jungle - Wolfchild
Found by: No one.
I haven't played this game but it looked cozy. Found out about it through Kim Justice's Core Design retrospective. I like watching her videos and having them as background noise bc European games are fucking weird, but sometimes her cloying lilt and speech mannerisms get the best of me. The intro to this game is especially anime as fuck on the Amiga like, almost as badly drawn as Turrican 3's. The Mega CD version would fix this. Take note I love anime bullshit lol
30. Brave Warriors - Lunar: Eternal Blue
Found by: No one.
This is like actually one of my fave Turn Based RPGs ever, I like it more than pretty much all FFs I think? This isn't an epic "Working Designs guy" pwnage moment, though, I just think Game Arts and Studio Alex did a superb job at maximising the Mega CD's capabilities and telling a touching story. The most I'll give WD credit for is getting the game exported and the vocal songs. Remember, Vic actually cockblocked this and its prequel from showing up on the Genesis Mini 2 under the guise of "Lunar (read: his wallet) is worth more money". Lain jumpscare at the end btw
31. Dark Road ~ Nether Road - Touhou Kikaisen ~ Adventures in Inferno (SUSSUS AMONGUS IMPOSTOR!!!!11111111)
Found by: Mayoh.
Okay full disclaimer, I found out about this because bebn legg on SMWC has been porting Touhou Game Concept Album songs like this for ages, and I thought it'd be funny to use something from those as an impostor. Katazuki agreed with me. The fact so many people mistook this for an actual Touhou song means it worked :) Get fucked.
32. Sunrise on the Train - Garou: Mark of the Wolves
Found by: Mayoh.
I know SNK songs aren't as instantly memorable as Capcom songs but jesus christ get educated y'all
33. Overworld - Silk Road 2
Found by: No one.
Full disclaimer, I know this one because someone who may have been Near (RIP) did a shitpost babelfish translation of the PC version as a joke to meme on people who badgered translation patch authors to make patches by just copypasting machine translations. Which honestly isn't different from how localization discourse is now where you have people ACTUALLY trusting Google Translate over experienced translators due to Gamergate bullshit. Did you know Silk Road 1 was a puzzle game? I need to check SPRITE's website to see if it's on Windows as well or just the X68k.
34. Fatidic - Bomberman Hero
Found by: Bean.
yeah there's songs in bomberman hero that aren't redial. fucked up. Did you know this game was originally gonna be a 3D Bonk game? I'm deathly curious to see how that would be, like no cap.
35. Goldenrod City - Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal
Found by: 6 people.
Partially found by: Valentine.
This is the last one of the first three generations I played and yet it crawled into my brain and has never left, I think. When I play SoulSilver I don't think g*d will survive, and I'm not even a big Pokémon fan. Specifically SoulSilver bc I like Lugia better, even if its designer was Fucking Weird about how it should only be female since it's a "maternal Pokémon", apeshit gender essentialist trash.
36. Heat of Tomyan - Ai Cho Aniki
Found by: No one.
I was reminded of this game thanks to Unaniem's A2XT2 stage, and I will die on the very lonely hill that Botei Bill is husband material. Samson and Adon are too grotesque that they only work as satire. Did you know they were named after gay magazines? For real! Idaten and Benten are just deities, while Botei Bill is a pun on "bodybuilding" and a kanji for "emperor" (帝), likewise with Botei Conscious from this game. I think the cherub fuckers are named after angels? I forget their names. Also, I feel like I remember that this is the one Cho Aniki game that plays alright.
The Gurren Lagann composer made this song btw
37. Fortuna - Star Fox
Found by: 3 people.
song that plays when you act a little silly
38. Bubbles of Light - Lagrange Point
Found by: No one.
Apparently Lagrange Point is like, legit one of the best NES RPGs period? And I somehow still haven't played it. A friend of mine shilled this game to me like ages ago and I really wanna play it for her sake and aaaaaaaaaaaa. Anyway this song plays in a pivotal scene where
39. FC Field - Yume Nikki
Found by: Nast.
How did none of you literally get a Yume Nikki song. Kikiyama is rolling in their grave (they aren't dead, I lied)
40. Aquarius - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Found by: 4 people.
Partially found by: 3 people.
Honestly, I just thought this rendition of the song sounded funny. I only took Circle of the Moon answers for this. Circle of the Moon is a really wack game, but I like the darker vibes. It's more goffik (/myimmortal) Hugh Baldwin is an alltime design, I think he singlehandedly sold me on sarongs more than male fanservice designs or Albel from Star Ocean 3 could have ever done.
41. What's the deal? - iS -internal Section-
Found by: No one.
This game not only has super lowpoly models but it also uses a high resolution mode /and/ runs at 60FPS, so it creates this bizarre "PlayStation game that doesn't look like a PlayStation game" feel. Outside of that it's a decent-ish tube shooter published by Square. Shinji Hosoe did this soundtrack and it's neat, I listen to it from time to time. Actually haven't played the game yet. seined felt
42. Main Theme - Agony
Found by: No one.
Psygnosis' Amiga output was all over the place in terms of playability but in terms of artistry it was on another level. Kim Justice says this is "a load better than Kolibri on 32X" and honestly I doubt that, but I'm spoiled by having played non-Euro shmups all my life. Tim Wright out here composing fire.
43. Endlessly - Star Ocean: The Second Story
Found by: 2 people.
Apparently this plays in the Cave of Crimson Crystals but what does it say that I literally forgot where this plays, and this isn't because I last played SO2 in like. 2022. I swear, anyway chill song. An instance of Sakuraba not putting out slop. I have Star Ocean brainworms so I had to sneak at least one (1) song from this terrible series on to it. NO REGLETS
44. Battle - Vay
Found by: No one.
Also kind of an asshole pick. This is a bizarre super linear Dragon Quest clone on the Mega CD by Hertz and SIMS and honestly it's kind of there? It's mostly notable for the American release that went too far on the gag dub scale (thanks WD) and increased the difficulty to ridiculous levels. Like they altered the code so you had to put on a specific helmet (localized to be a Gas Mask) to get through the part where the Sylph (or "Sirufa") teleports you to another region, which was localized by her propelling you to it with her farts. I have never seen a modern day localization do this shit, and yet this is what Gamergate refugees think modern localizers do, absolute crackhead shit.
Otherwise, neat game that just flat out doesn't exist in the Japanese knowledge sphere by virtue of being on the Mega Drive and not having any sort of audience.
45. Brick Pandemonium - Polygonet Commanders
Found by: No one.
There's a specific portion of my brain dedicated to weird early 3D arcade games that look like 1970s CG animations like this, Solvalou (take note of this), Virtua Fighter, Cyber Sled... From what I can tell this is basically Combat on 2600, but in 3D and it looks neat. The music and graphics do make it feel unique even today, though. Wild as hell.
46. FITHOS LUSEC WECOS VINOSEC - Final Fantasy VIII
Found by: 6 people.
mandatory baby easy pick. FF8 is a goddamn mess, writing and gameplay wise but that's why i like it tbh
47. Heavyarms Stage - Gundam Wing: Endless Duel
Found by: No one.
Yo why haven't I finished the first Gundam yet. Anyway this game owns? Rare instance of a licensed anime fighter from the 90s not playing like shit. How did none of you get this.
48. Forest - Terra Incognita
Found by: No one.
This was the centerpiece of the Net Yaroze developer kit back in the 90s along with Devil Dice. Did you know the dude who lead this went on to lead FF Crystal Chronicles? Insane shit, he (and his friends?) also did the Fatal Fantasy VII tech demo. Cute little pseudo-RPG that reminds me of like Landstalker and such, need to play this.
49. Rolling Chaser - Gunstar Heroes
Found by: 2 people.
I played Contra III and I still think this game is better sorry. ALSO PEOPLE KEPT CALLING THIS SONIC SPINBALL AND IT MADE ME WANT TO MURDER SOMEONE. SONIC SPINBALL SOUNDS LIKE ROADKILL WAHT THE FUCK ARE YOU ON
50. Stone Tower Temple - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Found by: 5 people.
Partially found by: 2 people.
again, another baby pick. I'm a fan of the entrance of this dungeon giving MAH BOI. King Harkinian (cd-i) is cute i will not lie. shame me all you want, it's the asgore character design archetype, that shit gets to me real bad.
51. First Boss - Digimon World 2
Found by: No one.
Okay, so this one plays when you fight the tutorial boss (it's a Leomon with two henchmen, of course), and I think the rival tamers? I forget exactly, and I haven't played this game yet, I'm trying to beat Digimon World 1 first. Digimon World 2 apparently is like a roguelike with turn based menu command style battles, and apparently the RNG is so unbearable it ruins the game? Digimon World 3 has a similar issue but it's actually a mon turn based RPG, with ridiculous backtracking and encounter rate. Meanwhile Digimon World 1 is just stupidly opaque by virtue of being a V-Pet mixed with an open world real time RPG (NOT action RPG, take note) and once you get past that it's mostly smooth sailing beyond the occasional bug. Also, Digimon World 4 is a mediocre co-op action RPG. Wild shit.
52. Ocean Field - Solvalou
Found by: No one.
This game is a sleep paralysis apparition to me because not only is it a Xevious rail shooter with primitive 3D (my shit), but it doesn't run properly in MAME as of right now, you can only emulate this using Dolphin's Virtual Console emulation. Like what the fuck. Also the OST is a vibe, even if half of it is Xevious Noises.
53. Advanced Course - Burning Road
Found by: 2 people.
Weird ass Daytona clone, that tries to be too ham on bombasticness to the point it hurts the game. I hate the fact that I'm constantly jumping all over the place due to the tracks and shit. The OST is pleasant, though I must stress the PAL ost, because for NTSC-U they added the option of generic western hard rock tracks by someone else, who Tommy Tallarico took credit for, and they're all incredibly mediocre and the only shit that got uploaded to YouTube by itself. Daytona USA CCE had better hillbilly rock.
I did go apeshit over Windows Media Player somehow getting metadata out of thin air, but honestly I feel like googling lyrics is fair game, if only because Bean has been doing it for the past five years or more.
54. Alsion III Stage - Breakers (Breakers' Revenge)
Found by: No one.
Cozy poverty fighter. I haven't gone too indepth with its mechanics yet, but it plays alright for what it is and that's good enough so far. Rila Estancia is so damn cute and beefy I wanna shower her with kisses, I'm sad the recent release's artwork for her doesn't accentuate her fucked up mommy muscles enough. Maherl is also so goddamn cute (kis kis kis)
55. Crash III - Mega Man Zero 3
Found by: 3 people.
Partially found by: 3 people.
mega man zero is the best mega man subseries and if you disagree with me you probably eat grelp. and that's a Facdt!!!!!!!!!!11111111
56. Labratory Level - Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Found by: 4 people.
I think the song title is a pun on "lab rat"??? Anyway Alexander Brandon's music is peak, even if Jazz 2 is kind of above average as a platformer. Also I feel bad that Dean Dodrill cared a lot about Lori but she just. Doesn't fit alongside Jazz and Spaz by virtue of suffering from "western furry girl that is too over idealized and not actually a cartoon" disease, see also Krystal and Sally Acorn (my behateds).
57. Act 4: The Wicked Flame - Arcus Odyssey
Found by: No one.
Weird top down action spinoff of the Arcus series, and the only one to come out overseas. It plays alright but the difficulty goes batshit near the end that I wound up just not liking it at all. I may give it another go with better savestate checkpointing, but these stages suck. Also another instance of Motoi Sakuraba doing good music.
58. Japonesque - Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Found by: 2 people.
Partially found by: Oddwrath.
It's been like a decade since I played one (1) Shinobi game, but they're generally alright outside of the Saturn one, I think? Shinobi III's OST hit hard when I was younger, I just vibed on the sound test menu for like ten minutes at a time.
59. Twilight of Neo Kobe City - Snatcher
Found by: No one.
I haven't played this game yet and I don't know why. I should. Insane the Mega CD version is just a port from the TurboGrafx, verbatim. Just dubbed in English. Apparently this plays at the end of the game? That was accidental. (EDIT ALSO OOPS I GOT THE WRONG VERSION IM SO SORRY /honest)
60. High Score Table - Galaxy Force II (FM Towns)
Found by: No one.
Galaxy Force II sounds like a cozy ass Super Scaler game, but for some reason, this specific version of the song was only used on this specific PC version. Like holy shit. I only know about this because I was around for when docfuture first uploaded his Prom Night video, and one of the Prom Night covers linked at the end of the video (through annotations, RIP) was an "FM Towns Cover" that just placed the Prom Night lyrics over this song. And it was so goooood. idk man,,
Found by: 5 people.
Anyway this song plays in a pivotal scene where
a child party member literally dies
. And that's the sort of brutal audience punch I live for. Konami wtf39.

And it was so goooood. idk man,,
