Re: the 22nd talkhaus vgm guessing game - Game end! Answers and hints posted, scores to follow
Dang, I goofed up and waited till the last minute to get together my guesses for the vgm contest. It's well past the deadline so I know these won't be accounted for, but this is what popped up in my mind as I listened to the snippets over the months when occasionally visiting the thread.
Great job on hosting this contest this year, it was fun and had some swell picks. My bad on the late guesses, I'll send 'em in at better time for the next one

OOOGH
OOGH AAGH AAGH
i legit thought you were gonna put last bibble
fucked up that not only did i call 13 mother 3 Again but i also called 55 doom
i actually forgot the song @ 50 because i don't like that specific game in that series, goal based pinball is always garbage
also yes it's halloween's stage, the character you fight is named halloween, he's a little pumpkin boyo i think
unrelated but commander douche shoving furry shit into his videos was always fucking obnoxious and came off as incredibly super fucking forced outside of the solatorobo meme comics (source: i am a gay furry)
thank's for the easier contest this time

Dang, maybe I should've given this contest a shot.raekuul wrote: ↑1 year agoRush - Superconductor (INTRUDER)
Public Hint: "Show, don't Tell"
Private Hint: "Packaged like a rebel or a hero"
Note: I originally meant to score this as an Impostor of DOOM - E1M4 (Kitchen Ace and Taking Names), but the overlap between the two songs is short enough that I was going to get more guesses of Superconductor no matter how I cut it (I would have actually needed to mute the 'vocal' track and at that point the VGM Game stops pretending to be fair). Besides, after what happened with Star Fox The Thread scoring it as a Rush song is more on-brand anyway.
Anyway related, I'll never get tired of sharing this gem that I found on some sheet music website.

obscure-but-still-in-a-well-known-game song that got left out because I panicked and wanted to get the game off the ground before I had a complete hard drive failure.
Attached is my scoring spreadsheet along with a bunch of notes. I actually had a pool of ~150 songs to pick from and there was supposed to be one - Attachments

Re: the 22nd talkhaus vgm guessing game - Game end! Scores posted, thank for play
These were my guesses exactly how I sent them through PM:
I needed private hints for 27 songs, but they only helped me correctly guess two of them. The hint for #5 was pretty obvious. At first I thought it sounded like an 8-bit Kirby game, but I couldn't find a match after skimming through all of those soundtracks. I previously heard a port of #17 in a SMW hack (I don't remember which), so the context clue helped me narrow down the search in SMW Central's music section. Also, for #55, while Koba guessed "Doom", I guessed "Duke Nukem 3D". It really did sound like it was from an FPS game. But I assumed that games didn't repeat, so I picked the next reasonable choice.
Anyway, thanks raekuul for hosting the contest, and for the quick turnaround on the results. It was bold to include a bunch of retro 8/16-bit songs in the mix, especially ones that are arguably well-known. I noticed that the last few VGM contests didn't go to that extreme, presumably because the NES/Genesis/GBA sound can really help narrow things down. I will probably not do this well again in a future contest, haha.
