forgive me for not voting in the community judge selection but the reason i didn't apply to judge was because i didn't want to judge things

I largely voted for the judges most likely to score the type of level that I can actually do well well

So you're selecting judges primarily based on how well they score your level, rather than everyone's levels?

But of course I'm trying to unfairly influence the contest towards rompy levels. The fact that when I seriously try to make a good level it comes out rompy is completely responsible for this fact.

E: I've thought about it and because I was unable to take my bias out of my vote, I'd like for it to not be counted in the final tally (the votes weren't anonymous by any stretch of the imagination)

Alright. Sorry if I was coming off as a bit too rude back there, I wasn't sure how else to word it but knew it was an important issue.

It's alright. I actually would never make a good judge (contest or otherwise) because I have a hard time keeping my biases out of the way.

That and even though I would have skewed my hypothetically good level somewhat higher if my vote made the difference, it would have skewed Hard and/or Gimmicky levels more dramatically, which exacerbates the risk of having a block of skillfully made levels in the upper tiers that aren't quite so fun to perform blind as they are to play.

(I mean, we're going to get that anyway, but if the judges I wanted got all the spots, we'd see a larger block of skillfully made levels in the upper tiers that are fun to play but not necessarily to perform)

Y'know, I've been hearing all this conversation about being biased in their vote, thus they decide not to vote at all. I'd like to address/comfort some of these concerns.

One thing I'd like to mention is that you get to pick three out of the ten people who auditioned. I feel that this allows people, including judges, to vote for the one who they absolutely want, but are then required to choose two others that don't necessarily meet those requirements. In a sense, it helps reduce bias. It does not get rid of it, and there will always be small, personal biased judgments when it comes to this sort of stuff.

  • "I want someone who doesn't prefer hard difficulty."
  • "I'd like someone who is open to any kind of level."
  • "I think someone with courteous judge comments would fare better."
  • "I'd like to vote for myself because I think I can do a good job."
  • "I want someone who praises romp levels as I'm the kind of guy that enjoys them more."
Everyone votes for who they believe or want as a judge, which to some is considered a bad thing.
However, I'd like to argue that in this scenario, it honestly isn't major and some folks are making it out to be a lot more troubling than it is (imo).

With a community-voted thing like this, you get the opinion of several people voting for who they like the most. And as a result, you get a 'vague' average of who the community, as a whole, would consider being a decent judge. This is one of the biggest reasons I had this community-vote, so that it wasn't just my decision (and yes, personal bias) that decided which judges would be great. In fact, I had debated whether to make it a community vote for ALL JUDGES, but I felt people wouldn't be in tune with that. Plus, as the host, I'd think that might be a bit flaky on my part, so I didn't do it.

Additionally, some people have been guessing who is who in the vote, preventing them from voting since they think they know who they are. I somewhat understand this, although I would still encourage these folks to vote anyway. For the reason being that, again, this is a community vote and that one vote isn't going to have a major effect on the total results. Plus, if there were only like 20 people who voted from a community who I know is a little larger than that, it wouldn't really be a community vote anyway and the whole point would be fruitless.

I would advise these guys to try and consider the results more than the name. I know that isn't always possible, but try and focus more on how they look at different styles of levels. Not to mention, some folks who have guessed who is who have been wrong! So that's something to consider!

And if you're a judge abstaining from the voting because you're auditioning to be a judge, I appreciate the consideration towards not adding your own vote in, but I'd would vote anyway since there have been a couple judges so far who have voted for themselves already. I'd feel guilty in not counting their votes, since they are a part of the community, plus they have two other votes to distribute. Knowing that I'd think it be fair for you applicants to vote regardless.

One last thing I'd mention is that some people are deciding not to vote because they haven't played the audition levels. This is perhaps the ONLY exception I'd understand when it comes to not voting here. These levels were picked/made to attempt to imitate a certain style of a level trope and knowing what the overall level is can provide additional insight into a judge's style. I would argue, however, that these levels do a decent job in replicating these tropes. There are one or two quirks in each level that can effect a score a bit, but as a whole, I feel like it suits the bill.

tl;dr I'd encourage people to vote even if they think they'd skew the results with their own personal bias. It's a community-vote, and with it being a bunch of people voting, that little personal bias isn't going to have a major impact on the results. Also, the way the vote is setup helps prevents this small problem well, where everyone is required to vote for three people.

So if you still want to null your vote raekuul, I'd understand, but I just wanted to bring this topic up since I've seen it tossed around the last few days.

Nah, Judge Orange gave 150 points to the rompy level and scored everything else 0. When called out on this, they rescinded their judge entry.

1. Mango has the closest color to orange

2. If you really want to, I could actually debate how Mango is the best judge among them.

After playing the judge pack (well, the first part of 5 and all of the rest anyway), I feel like Peach's scores are basically my opinions except more extreme, with 1 and 3 being pretty much on par

now to decide which 2 others to pick to make a good balance

Try voting for which judge can analyze a level's most important aspects. All of the reviews (save for banana's) point out something of some significance in the level, but only a few judges point out details which actually matter to how the level should be scored... some judges try to summarize the level rather than point out good or bad aspects about it.
