Posting here to confirm my selection (7-1 / 4-3). If at some point there are as many volunteers as levels, I'll give 4-3.

Please sign me up for 6-1 oh mighty WestonSmith!
Uh...Do I just sign here? What do you mean it should be obvious? There are people in this world...well...a whole lot of people that can't follow basic instructions!

1-1 is the hardest level to do! You have to show the player how every basic mechanic works without using any textboxes.

Wow, these are getting eaten up fast. Better chime in too, I guess.

I'll take either 5-1, 6-2, or 7-4 (whichever one nobody else wants)

14 levels left folks (minus 1 for cheez8). We have 5 folks signed up who haven't claimed a level yet. So we have (potentially) 8 spots left. Lots of room if peeps want to join in.

Are the castles just going to have vanilla Bowser fights (though presumably with escalating challenge like the original game), or what?

Considering we're using SMB1 resources only, this shouldn't be too hard to do. Just take it slow and show off each mechanic before combining them, right?

Looks like fun, I would like to help with this and do "1-4" if that's okay.

There's actually a great deal of thought that went into it. http://www.1up.com/features/learning-level-design-mario

Also we have additional elements than just SMB1, I.E. the immobile springboards that were included in the prototype thingy but don't appear till 2-1 in SMB.

SMB didn't introduce every concept in 1-1 and we shouldn't feel obligated to either, just the basic ones like:
  • The aim is to move to the right
  • You can't scroll the screen left
  • Enemies hurt you
  • You can jump over enemies to avoid them
  • You can jump on enemies to defeat them
  • Hitting ? Blocks causes good things to happen
  • You can jump different heights depending on how long you hold the button
  • Mushrooms and Fire Flowers are good
  • Hitting normal blocks does nothing unless you're big
  • Bottomless pits kill you instantly
  • Flagpoles end the level
  • You can go down pipes (explained by the post-level cutscene but also present in the main level as a secret)

Yessir. Though the nature of escalation hasn't been discussed much. Presumably, outside of the addition of hammers in 6-4, it will be up to the inidividual to decide what to do with Bowser.

While I included the springboards in Demo-1, don't take that as a sign that they will be included earlier than 2-1 in the final game. That was simply a good spot to place them to show that we weren't going to have moveable NPCs.

I wouldn't mind taking one of the available castle levels then. Any old one will do.

I gave you 6-4, clearing World 6 off the list. Let me know if you want to change.
