That couldn't be farther from the truth! What gave you that idea?

Re: 1% of the Users Control 43% of the Posts: Fixing the Forums
That's a problem: If I stop people from making shitty posts I'll run off the people who like "fun." I've had some people complain to me before for stopping "fun" from happening when in my eyes it was just a bunch of shit. Then they get mad and don't post cause I'll ruin their fun
If I don't stop them then the forums become a cesspool where people do whatever the hell they want. Then people stop posting because the forums are "awful"
I know what you mean, but I hope you can understand where I'm coming from at least
Ideally, everyone would behave but we all know how that goes

I'm on Youtube andTwitter and Discord so say hi to me on there cause I don't really post here also I have sigs off so I can make my sig as ugly as I want and it won't bother me this is my sig btw
Re: 1% of the Users Control 43% of the Posts: Fixing the Forums
Doesn't that make the argument for rearrangement? The gazebo is the place you point people who want to "awful" but it's also the only place for conversation that doesn't have a specific purpose like LP or romhacks.
Of course you're having a hard time moderating it!

Uhhh I don't want anybody to be awful, Cup. Unless you want us to make a "Gay Shit for Fags" Forum where we don't moderate it at all and it's awful (except for the people who post in it all the time I guess)

Re: 1% of the Users Control 43% of the Posts: Fixing the Forums
Well, with moderation powers, you can either do what you want (moderate stuff) or give other people what they want (lots of different stuff because that's how people are).
Sometimes people want topical discussion about things and other times they want to be an ass. If you gave the talkhaus an unmoderated area, you can point people there when you delete and ban off topic horrible posts. Will very many people post there? Probably not, but it would give you all kinds of leeway with keeping the gazebo on point, since if someone is unhappy about being "censored" here, they have an unmoderated alternative that no one else ever has to look at.
Keep keeping the porn and gore and illegal stuff on the banlist though, but you don't need to actively check it. Just respond to flags and stuff for that.
Or you know, moderate the gazebo anyway and just say "tough," because sometimes you shouldn't act like an ass even if you want to.

Re: 1% of the Users Control 43% of the Posts: Fixing the Forums
Came to post "ugh who bumped this," stayed for the actual intelligent discussion
With regards to splitting the gazebo into a million forums for every interest under the sun, I can't see any good coming from it. Each forum would have like three active members at most so it would just be like a slower IRC. I had an epiphany when I read one of argue's posts: if you want activity, you have to be active. I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I wrote all this stuff about CAPTCHA and youtube comments. The only real solution is to get people to post more.
And IRC's fine. You guys should join.
And we don't hate argue
e: oh hey look I didn't notice that, they removed my only incentive for ever going to forum games by putting the twitter thread here. That's a good example of my first point; forum games is basically a cesspool that nobody likes, but people keep posting there for some reason. I like the idea of centralizing things to the gazebo, honestly, because it stimulates discussion instead of spreading people out so much

Oh hey.
If argue doesn't like something don't worry because I am genuinely taking everything said here into consideration, and even though I'm not addressing it now, I may do it.
Also, I've been trying pretty hard lately to get people to be more active. That's what all these events have been about. We are planning to have more soon, too. In the end, Wareng is right. Be active and promote activity, thanks!

Not like you've ever been there.Bartle wrote:As for the problem with Skypehaus: put plainly, the place reeks of melodrama. Most people there are tightly wound and immature; at least, that's the impression that I get. It relies on bloated software that requires an account to use and there are no real advantages to it compared to IRC. It just steals traffic from IRC; at the very least, you might've made it a channel on Renaporn rather than disassociating it entirely.
Yes, it's had melodrama at some point, yes, there were a lot of immature people in it back in the day, but most of that is gone by now.
Since the beginning of 2012 it's split up into three parts and it's calmed down a lot since then. Of course we had Punisher, who acted like an insulted whiny kid every time something happened, we had Rikun who made creepy threads and... THAT thread... Punisher's gone by now, and Rikun has changed a lot since then.
Probably boring the heck out of you guys with that little story, but I'm just trying to say that it's not as bad as many make it out to be.
Aside from that, I really like seeing that some new threads sprung up over the last hours. I for my part will organize the Talkhaus Mosts again this year, if that's okay (will probably happen around November).
Re: 1% of the Users Control 43% of the Posts: Fixing the Forums
Actually, I think we should just wait until next June and do Talkhaus Mosts 2012 & 2013. I was gonna do 2012 last June, but it didn't feel right because we just had one.Aposke wrote:Aside from that, I really like seeing that some new threads sprung up over the last hours. Re: 1% of the Users Control 43% of the Posts: Fixing the Forums
Why does it need to be June, anyways? Just because the first one was in June?
I don't think it makes much sense to rate the best X during year Y when the year is only half over. Who knows, the best posts might still just be made!
Edit: This post can possibly be misunderstood.
I'm in favor of making the Talkhaus Mosts happen this year in November/December, and next year around the same time as well. We have plenty of possible nominees already, as ano0maly pointed out below.

Yeah, I was wondering - the board index looked a little smaller suddenly.
I think it fits together better now, especially having a game-talk forum on its own (I also really like the name for some reason).
That aside, I really would've wished you'd at least kept ATXS as a subforum to the arts section. It IS raocow's comic after all and finding the thread about ordering the latest ATXS copy might be kind of a pain now that it's buried under all the old dead art threads.

Woah. First time I've seen the front page change since I joined.
I like the idea of the cartridgé.
Maybe it could be used as a sort of image let's play area (Or whatever they're called.)? Like, rather than advertising your YouTube LPs like in the Let's Play sub-forum, you could do one of those things where you play for a bit, take some screenshots, and then update your progress in a game every once and a while.
Pretty much like how I've been spamming the BoI thread, but in this case I'd have an excuse to do it.

might wanna merge collaboration extravaganza and the graveyard too while you're at it!
Re: 1% of the Users Control 43% of the Posts: Fixing the Forums
If we're still merging forums, can't we fit "art showcase" into "let's play?" I think my reasoning here is pretty obvious.
Thanks in advance mods, kisses~
