I don't think we really have a plot yet, so it's a bit premature to plan which bosses will be in it when we don't even really know which characters are the antagonists.

The attitude has been mostly 'if you want to do a thing, do it and we'll see how it goes' so if you are into making a boss, just go for it!

If anything the game's story/progression shuld be like the first game, in that it's informed by what was made, rather than the other way around.

ah, yeah i see.

well then, i suppose this topic will actually be useful once we got some stuff done (by that i mean story, chars and whatnot obvs.)

so basically anyone can make a boss? sounds good to me, altho yes, i do need some information on WHO is the bad guy before making it a boss, eh.

That does seem like the best way to go about it. I think I might have phrased myself badly on my last post - it's fine to make a boss, but if we were planning and assigning them, we wouldn't be doing it yet. If you want to make a major, story boss, though, best have a look through the episode 2 plot discussions and ask around.

I'd recommend waiting for the cinematX library to be finished before making a major boss though. The Broadsword fight was made with that, and it's looking pretty cool.

I'm also making a level that may include a fight with

Uncle Rewind

using the same library. The boss functionality isn't done yet, though, so it's worth waiting.

I can't even imagine how the Uncle Rewind fight is going to go. I mean, the flavor text that raocow provided pretty much implies that this boss would be using save states, right? Not sure that this could be done in the LunaLua.

New fights with some of the siblings is also a possibility. I know at least one level has a Pandamona fight already built into it.

There are several different ways you could do it. You could completely ignore raocow's suggested flavor text and do your own thing. You could give him super-speed or enhanced perception powers. You could give him time-stopping powers of some sort. Time-slowing powers such as slowing down the player/obstacles are also a possibility.

You could program in an argument-based battle where both characters either try to convince each other that they are right or just keep insulting each other. Or a rap battle. Have Rewind challenge someone to chess, or poker, or a race. There are lots of options.

And of course there's the save-states-power...though as Science mentioned in his final battle, that power doesn't work in all the SMBX-based dimensions... :twisted:

Apologies for taking so long with cinematX, everyone. The library's been going through some major revisions since the Broadsword videos to make it easier to work with.

Here's what I've got so far for Denmark, let me know what other poses/animations you'll need.

Regarding savestate powers, I imagine you could fake that by indexing the position, speeds, timers, etc. of the player and all NPCs, waiting a second or two and then setting all those properties back to the indexed values.

aw yea looking good.
Ok, so here's what else ill need without spoiling too much detail:
Diagonal poses like the 2 on the bottom right(upleft and upright, downleft and downright)
downward spin animations like the 2nd and 4th
that should be all for now, might need a bubble-like projectile for some things but ill get to that later...

I might spend some time to learn lua and design a boss of some kind. It might take a while, but it should be easier afterwards. I assume that the uncles are most important to make right now?

Science apparently tool abuses too, but he managed without it in Analog Funk. In fact I kind of got out of his final boss dialogue was that he really disliked SMBX due to it's lack of savestates. But I would imagine that Uncle Rewind's powers are more innate and less literal tool abuse.
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

Arright, Mabel, I posted the Denmark sprites over in the graphics thread.

Yeah, his name may be Rewind but there's no reason why he can't just have general time manipulation powers -- in addition to reloading savestates, have him slow down/speed up time and pull a Flash Man.

And on that note, I propose this as his battle theme (assuming we don't end up using the same music for all of the Uncle battles).

I'm totally going to have to make a Calleoca battle again. I'm probably going to need quite a few sprites for her different transformations. But for now could somebody please make me sprites of the following:

1) Calleoca walking, running and jumping.
2) A frame of Calleoca wall jumping.
3) Calleoca spinning in the air (before a transformation).
4) Calleoca hovering dramatically.

My idea for the boss fight (may change as I make it):
Basically my plan is to make this much more of a boss fight than in Episode 1. You will start off fighting Calleoca in an arena where she will run around on the floor then jump towards one of the walls of the arena, wall jump on it and start spinning in mid air before transforming into something (a giant bouncy ball for example).

Once you get her onto low enough health she will once again wall jump but will continue jumping and hover in the upper middle of the arena and deliver a line of dialog before transforming into a giant drill and plunging into the earth. The battle will then take place on falling debris as you fall into a giant cavern. Calleoca will use more flying based attacks (such as the homing missile from episode 1). For some reason your objective is to climb back up the falling debris and back out of the hole (however that works).

You make it back out of the hole with Calleoca following you and see that you're at the end of a completely different level. Calleoca basically informs you that you're going off script. You walk through the goal tape at the end and immediately collect Calleoca as a coin. "Did you seriously just do that?".
How realistic it is for me to make a boss fight like that is up for debate but it sounds cool enough for me to want to try.
The first thing I would do with infinite power would be to make myself a cave where I could look at my shadow forever.

For my next large project I could try to make a castle and a boss fight for Blood God.

It would be neat to draw the level layout as one tile since that might safe a lot of time and give me necessary detail to make things as I want them. It would also make it easier to use that one gimmick I showcased earlier. Making every color on a different layer, means I don't need to make as much tiles to make everything work.

You know, I've been playing around vanilla ideas and it just occurred to me:
I don't think I've ever seen an SMB3 Bowser battle where you break the blocks underneath Bowser instead of you tricking him instead.

It'd work best with Sheath. Have a floor of the SMB3 golden bricks. Sheath downstabs to break them and you try to trick the SMB3 Bowser into jumping in the hole you create.
