If we managed to change the list of starting characters - I don't see why not. We can just remove it from the menu and leave it in as a cheat.

Seconding the option to leave it in as a cheat. As long as that's possible, that sounds like it'll make the best of both worlds.

There are a lot of avatars that are yet to be included in towns.

Most of them are either "any" or intended for the two Towns (5 and 7, I think) which haven't even been submitted yet (and IIRC one guy who only watches Rao's video but didn't even do anything for the project). So I think this will get sorted out soon enough.

Sorry about that: all world 7 requested avatars are installed in my town: it's just my custom NPCs that is holding me back.

If someone demands it, I'll release a "functional" version of it and have it tested.

Any NPCs that aren't marked as used will be placed in the HUB. At the very least, mark it off if you used the NPC.

I think a working version would be good. The towns seemed to have had less review scrutiny than the actual levels.

I went through and did a spellcheck, grammar check and bugfix for a lot of the towns. I can't remember exactly which ones though and the rollback swallowed my corrections so I can't check. If there are any town creators that I didn't check for then let me know and I'd be happy to run through them.

EDIT: It occurred to me that I could just check which levels I have downloaded. I corrected the following levels:
Intros 1-6 inclusive, 8 & 9
Towns 2, 6, 7, 9 & "Desert Town"

So any intro or town not included on that list hasn't gotten a spellcheck & grammar check, which I think is very important considering how many typos the last game had and that these towns are really relying on their text rather than gameplay to carry them.

When you checked on Town 2, did you proofread the German text as well?

Off the top of my head I don't remember coming across any German but I may be mistaken. It's been a while. If I did I probably assumed it was fine given that I don't speak or read German and Google Translate is far from being reliable as a checker.

Ah, okay. As long as you had the latest version it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I don't know if I do. My system says that I downloaded the ZIP on the 30th of September. Have you made any revisions to the text since then?

Oh. Yeah, I've done a lot of work on the town since then. Looking at the wiki page history, I can tell you had version 1.1, while the latest version I made was 2.22 (on Nov. 25). One of the major changes I did since 1.1 was to add the interior of the train station and at the far end add someone who only knew German for comic effect. That was why I asked about the German text. Thanks for letting me know!

So should I just be checking the interior of the train station?

I also did more work in the library as well, so you should see what needs to be changed there too.

Town 2
Train Station
No errors. Get someone else to check the German.

Library
Narolas: "i'm" -> "I'm" on both occurances
MonkeyShrapnel: all the commas in the first sentence are splice commas and should be replaced with full stops/periods/whatever you want to call them.
You'll need to get someone else to check the Spanish.
Town 8
CRITICAL BUGFIX: You can't leave the Leek Pillar room once you enter it.

High priority bugfix:
Many enemies change into other enemies when you kill them. Change the death effects.
Low priority bugfixes:
The first layer transition (when everything changes) has a smoke effect that kind of spoils it. I'd recommend removing it.
The doors have background cutoff around them.
Typos:
First room: "scouraging" -> "scurraging" (technically neither is a proper word but the first looks like it should be pronounced closer to "scour" which isn't right).
All Toad graves: "Death" -> "death"
Luigi's grave: either remove the comma after "Unfortunately" or add another one after "died yet"
Toad's house with stopwatch: "The town got decimated came a long time ago." makes no sense. From the context it should either be "The town got decimated a long time ago." or "The town got decimated by a person who came a long time ago."
Toad's house with skeleton: "This use to be" -> "This used to be"; remove the comma after "everybody died" or add another one after "However".

My understanding from 8flight was that he was 100% done with his Town, so you're probably gonna have to make those changes.

That's exactly what I expect, to be honest. I really liked how ASMBXT "launch" went, and that should be an extreme example for this project.

We can make any changes on the go after some peeps get their hands in the game, and pretty easily at that, because of the friendliness of the engine. I would give this "beta" test a week or so

I hardly think that a week would give enough time for many of the testers to finish through the endgame. We really should be coming up with a version 1 beta test with 2 to 5 worlds ready.

While I'd probably give it a month, length of the testing phase will probably be determined by raocow's LP schedule.

And again, I'm not gonna consider any beta testing outside of people Downloading/testing out levels in the level editor until everything is done.

That's kind of a dick move to leave his town in an obviously incomplete state, unless he has real life commitments I'm unaware of. I can fix most of the problems but I'm pretty bad at graphics editing so if someone else wants to do fix up the death effects that would be swell.

Once everything is done, there will still be a period of beta testing between then and whichever comes first between the official release and the beginning of raocow's LP, right?

(Most of my interest in this issue comes from me knowing that I'll play the game as soon as it's not a hassle, but also wanting to help as a tester)

(also the beta testing period I'm asking about was geared towards a "full game version 0.XX" thing and not 100+ level files)

Depends on what Shaman whats. My suggestion is to do the same as ASMBXT where it was released the same day as the video 1 of the LP.

We really should replace the Zelda heart get sound with raocow saying "I FOUND A HEART"

Don't the replacements have to be the same length? I'm pretty sure the Zelda heart sound is less than a second. Unless you're talking about the Zelda item sound, which is one second.
