so like. admittedly we have much less of a race horse in the "let's revive and actually finish AZCT!" thing. but out of morbid curiosity, are we gonna recycle the romhack shack (just y'know, making a new channel for AZCT stuffs) & also hopefully give this a proper github? since having a discord and a github helped out a bunch with both A2XT:E2 and also AAT, so like, we can't imagine not setting that sorta stuff up for it if we wanna go all out on finishing AZCT

idk how Nabe feels about this, and there isn't much to finish. Like fr i can just dig out the Memories of Puyo Puyo midi i used for my dungeon originally, it's cool.
I think a Github would help with an AZCT2 in the VERY LOW CHANCE we ever get the brainworms for that (and I wouldn't force Nabe to work on it, the poor guy) but I'd much rather Nabe answer to all of this for AZCT in specific. And no, I'm not really planning a sequel right the fuck now, rest assured.
I sent Nabe a message on his Discord account (we're friends), but he's currently busy with Elden Ring('s DLC?) so that should take a few days or a week at least, maybe less if it's on his stream since he'll probably play it for longer rather than boot it up for a couple of hours.
Since this isn't a romhack I wonder if the central ASMT Discord wouldn't be better. Romhack Shack really exists because of the server originally developing a sort of parallel culture, on top of SMWC cross-pollinating and me wanting to repurpose it for SMW MaGLs. MaGLX behind-the-scenes affairs can be handled on specialized SMBX Discords I feel, with the occasional dip on the Spotzone.

Ugh that stupid level six dungeon has had more developers than we've got team members at this point. Any chance of getting the non-dungeon idea of "entrance -> lens and message -> triforce" in as a placeholder so that it's not hanging over our heads?

i have no idea but i would not be opposed to doing that concept as a joke. it's just that there's also the multidungeon final stage to worry about which takes elements from each stage. i suppose we can also do a funny goof there, but it depends on Nabe's thoughts on it.

I'm still ultra concerned that we feature-crept the hell out of this into unfinishability :( The sheer amount of things we said we "needed" to do, which was All The Things, definitely has put us all in a burnout.
I wonder if it'd be better to kinda...reboot this from the start. Take some of the assets we've already made, come up with new plans, and start SIMPLE. 8 dungeon items that go in 8 dungeons, 1 final dungeon, MAYBE 1 bonus side dungeon. Instead of trying to make use of EVERYTHING, come up with a smaller yet coherent list of items to use, to focus on.
I know "scrap everything" sounds terrible, but we're game developers! Game dev is all about iteration, scrapping things that don't work. Even if that means cutting out a huge amount of already-done work because it won't work out anymore.

I feel like there's at least a few dungeons we could salvage, if we choose to have their items in the game if we restart, so that would reduce the workload a bit.
If we do restart, we should begin with "what items do we want to go with?", whether that's items already in ZC, or items we'd have to script.
We'd probably keep the plot we currently have, collect mirror shards to escape the world and win the game!!, might need to redo the overworld as well... But if we keep scope smaller, we should be able to do it.

Hello, world! I'll comb through to make sure files are in a coherent state, and then I'll make a repo.
The main problem with AZCT for a long time has been that I was the only one interested. I'd happily have just finished every single thing that needs doing, but I don't think my name should be on ~30% of a community project.
Restarting wouldn't make much sense, it's extremely far along. Taping over the holes and putting it out is the better option. It sounds like there's interest in making a Lens dungeon, but if that doesn't materialize, it's completely fine to have a cave where the first screen has the Lens, the second screen has the Triforce piece, and we shrug and move on.

I'm not a big fan of "tape over the issues and say that's good enough", because it feels like that's what happened with A2MT and I remember talk of it being all "man it's so sad, couldn't get finished". :( I'm of the opinion that it's perfectly fine to scrap currently-done work if it doesn't fit anymore. Happens all the time in game development. I worry that just going "Fine, let's just do what we can to get it shoved out the door" will mean interest here in the program will die BECAUSE of attachment to a "failed project".Nabe wrote: ↑1 week ago Hello, world! I honestly believe that the reason no one was interested was because we bit off way more than we could chew and INSISTED that every single item be represented and get a big focus, seemingly...just because. I feel like restarting with a narrower focus would let us get something done quicker and easier that we'd be much more proud of, instead of going "okay what peg do we need to make to let this item fit as a major puzzle element?" for every single thing
But, of course, this is a community project, so things are different. I do recognize that!

I think we can decide on this as we go along once the repo's up. I do feel part of the reason interest died is moreso due to attention being focused more on smbx collabs (ESPECIALLY maglx contests), and also this being part of the gold rush era of talkhaus collabs where a bunch of stuff got started and then died on the crib. The drama involving Shemp (and Aposke and a bunch of other cryptofashes that contributed to collabs) was just the nail in the coffin.
