Let's Read: The War of the Worlds, by H.G. Wells!
Hi there everyone, this is [AOD]!
This is the first time I've ever done this kind of thing, so be gentle to me. I've never done an audio reading of a book before, so I am sure that I will get less stuttery and more fluent as I go on.
At any rate, I chose H.G. Wells's classic novelette The War of the Worlds, because it is one of my most beloved science fiction stories, and, with the remake in 2005, has come again into some prominence in popular culture. Also, the story moves at quick pace, and the chapters are short, making it eminently readable and easily put on YouTube.
Let's begin.
Chapter 1: "The Eve of War"
Part I
Part II
Chapter 2: "The Falling Star"
Part I
Chapter 3: "On Horsell Common"
Part I
Chapter 4: "The Cylinder Opens"
Part I
Chapter 5: "The Heat-Ray"
Part I
Chapter 6: "The Heat-Ray in Chobham Road"
Part I
Chapter 7: "How I Reached Home"
Part I
Chapter 8: "Friday Night"
Part I
Chapter 9: "The Fighting Begins"
Part I
Part II

I read this one a while back. I'll try to listen to this when I get more time. One thing I'll thank you for immediately, [AOD], is reminding me I never listened to the Orson Welles' radio drama based off of War of the Worlds. (There's no excuse actually since you can get an mp3 at http://www.archive.org/details/OrsonWellesMrBruns). That was an adaptation, of course, but are you changing or abridging anything, or reading the whole thing as is? Also, are you taking bets on whether a Youtube numptie will think that the story's real?
dont wanna jihad no more
Re: Let's Read: The War of the Worlds, by H.G. Wells!
I'll read the whole original novel as it is by H.G. Wells, unabridged, through and through, all 164 pages of it. Also, I sincerely doubt, since War of the Worlds has such huge prominence in the modern culture, after its reintroduction with the recent Stephen Spielberg film, among other film adaptations, that the radio show that Orson Welles created, would fool even the dumbest of YouTube nancies.

Chapter 5: "The Heat-Ray"
Stutterier today for some unexplainable reason. Oh well! I'm feeling a bit chilly anyway.

It's not that stuttery, and deficiently not as stuttery as when I read aloud.[AOD] wrote:Chapter 5: "The Heat-Ray"

I once tried reading a book to my cousin that I was babysitting and I could hardly make it though the book which was designed for children, I kept stuttering and mispronunciating the words, but then again I'm dyslexic so whatever.
anywho, keep posting these and I'll keep listing, you're doing a good job and all that!

...I hate to be a "Bogart" but I'm gonna steal this idea.
And do Gravity's Rainbow.
Because so few people will ever actually read it.
And maybe Dune, but that's just because I like it.
And maybe a mystery novel or two......Hurm....
