Those are actually their non-translated Japanese names, believe it or not. The only reason I know that is because I own the Rockman X 1-6 Soundtrack set, and it gives you those same odd Maverick names there in the index.

You mean Capcom of America did stuff right? I hesistate to believe that.

Also, I might be a stupid kid for saying so, but those card illustrations look awesome.

They just look so silly. It was pretty clear they were trying to be EXTREME!@!!! and the designs are so EXTREME that I can't take them seriously.

(5) Wire Sponge / (Viddler #5)

We get to weather the storm, the heat, and the fog? Okay, this place is a little bit messed up right now. Don't worry though. We've got everything under control. No, wait. They've got everything under control. Oh, you know what I mean. I hope. Here's a pretty simplistic stage overall. There's not much to it, the items are very easy to get, and the boss is pretty much as intimidating as his name suggests. Yeah...

I should say that Heart Tank took me the longest time to find back in the day because I forgot about that helmet upgrade. Seriously, who would think to put that collectable there of all places? Also, I make sure to play around with the weather myself with some weapons we haven't won yet just because I think I'd forget about it otherwise!

(6) Morph Moth / (Viddler #6)

Our next stage is trash... and that's because we're in a junkyard! This stage starts out with you fighting a ton of Reploids only to switch to enemies that will bug you as you go on. There's also a gravity gimmick here, sort of, but it's nothing that can't be dash jumped past pretty quickly. Morph Moth went from being my greatest concern of these eight Mavericks to being relatively benign once I figured out that the walls can be hugged for safety. I'm happy about that.

I used to have big problems with Morph, too, thanks for that trick! And he really grows...huh, never noticed.

Also nice showing off the way to dodge the circle shot without dashing. Got that from Hideofbeast's videos or figured it out on your own?

I watched that HoB minimalist run you're talking about. I don't normally experiment on bosses in the Mega Man X series. I've always been a kind of "copycat player" though when I do these anyway. Memorize the stage before you play it and all.

I had no idea that Morph Moth absorbed the junk wave and could mature into the actual Moth form that way

Neat!

(7) Wheel Gator / (Viddler #7)

Let's keep this thing rolling, shall we? How about not because Wheel Gator's stage is a giant freaking tank that is tearing down a city as we go through it... or it would if it could move in three dimensions. Anyway, this stage winds up not living up to my own imagination, so that's a bit of a disappointment, but it still gets the job done. Strike Chain actually winds up being useful in this stage at one point. No, it's not at Wheel Gator, because who uses that weapon outside of the final boss normally? Come on...

So you opted to not get the heart tank? Well, it doesn't gel well with not getting hit at all, though I think it should be possible with charged Strike Chain, too.

The stage really is the worst in the game just for how boring it is; says a lot about the game when the worst offender is "a bit boring". Boss sucks, too. I never saw his pellet fire, why would you ever let him charge up? Even then, it's piss-easy to dodge...I think they still hadn't ironed out the faults of the wall jump, mainly being that bosses always needed to have an attack that wasn't insanely predictable that could take you off it. X4 really was the first to nail that, you never were completely safe on the wall like you are with most fights here.

I like that it apparently takes you the better part of a day to get through the stage. Starts out in the day, then the sun sets, and by the time you fight Gator it's night time.

So glad you finally got an upgrade! ANd its the buster upgrade aka the best one.

Something I wanted to comment on a while ago, was that I'm surprised no other bosses got a "desperation" attack like Sponge did. In fact, I don't think it was until X8 that they brought that back (for all the bosses, too).

X3 definitely has those desperation/overdrive attacks as well for a lot of the Mavericks. After that, I think you're right. As for the Heart Tank, I kind of had my mind set on not getting that until I had the Speed Burner from Stag.

Flame Stag's flames turn blue after half health
We saw the desperation drill of Gator today
I think Ostrich gains the falling sonic slasher attacks after half health

Just off the top of my head. Dunno what you're getting at ^^.

Oh, and I don't like the buster upgrade. It makes you stop a bit for firing, which I hate. ZX nailed the double shot, nothing else comes close, and X3's can die in a fire. X form 4 lyfe yo.

(8) Crystal Snail / (Viddler #8)

I was a little slow in getting this one started, so it's only fitting that Crystal Snail won out in the end. With that said, you'll be taking this level at anything but a snail's pace throughout as there are some very fast and fun segments here courtesy of the stage's Ride Armor being placed out in the open. Even when you have to ditch it, the stage moves by pretty quickly. I'd say this is one of my favorite stages in the game, actually.

There's a lot to show off, but for once, I was able to get to most of it during the main run. I wish they'd all go as easily as this one did as it only took a whopping two tries for a combined 10 minutes to complete this stage. Maybe I shouldn't have said that because that means this video should have been up last night at the latest... Oops.

The music indeed rocks.

Also, it's kinda strange to see a video end with you getting a life and not with you killing yourself :D.

Eh, I don't much care for the Snail. It tends to drag out if you don't use his weakness, and timing the double shot right is a bitch (Bean, of course, is simply good enough to do it; I'm not). Playing soccer with the shell, though, is hilarious.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. A lot of stages can be sped through, including that one, but I just love that jump you have to make for the Heart Tank in Snail's stage the most. For the record, I'd probably pick Overdrive Ostrich's stage as my favorite... as long as you can keep the bike. Looks like he's up next unless a huge swing happens.

I must hate Ostrich if only for the Ride Chaser stages his one spawned. Fuck Mantis, and doubly so Adler. They're not fun, Capcom. REALIZE THAT. If it's optional, that's perfectly fine, you'll get a reward for keeping the bike and all is well in the world. If you die three seconds after the stage starts if you don't press a button, that's called BULLSHIT and you should know it.

(9) Overdrive Ostrich / (Viddler #9)

I've drawn the line in the sand. Time to find out who I am! Looking back to see where I stand... would be kind of stupid as there's a bird at the end of this stage that's wanting to take his misplaced anger out on innocent people by launching a freaking missile back at Maverick Hunter headquarters! Whoa!

This stage is fast and fun, and we owe much of that to the Ride Chaser here. Without it, this stage would actually be kind of barren. With it, you can travel through this desert base in no time flat. Just be sure to hang on to it long enough to pick up the Heart Tank... Oh, and for goodness sake, make sure you turn around before you crash right into a wall of spikes. It got me three times in this one!

After that, we get a pretty nifty capsule upgrade that is one of my favorite additions to any Mega Man game. Yeah, the mid-air dash is pretty cool. I think there are games that do this upgrade better, but there aren't any others that do it first! Finally, we take on an ostracized Ostrich. Kind of surprised I didn't go for that alliteration/semi-pun in this one. Hmm.

(10) Flame Stag / (Viddler #10)

With a volcano stage, you'd think that things were about to heat up. That's not really the case in this one. The items are easy to collect, the enemies are few are far between, and our boss didn't turn out to be the complete pain in the backside I thought he was going to be. Anything but a slow burn, Stag will come at you with lightning fast speed. It took me a few times to remember what all he can do, but once I got it down, he went down.

Next up are the X-Hunters' first round fights which I recorded way back when I uploaded the first two vids. Shame I didn't edit it together right away. Still, I'll try and get that one up tomorrow.
