Nah, it was just the preincarnation of Cthlaibil, the ancient elder evil of the spirit of warfare (who is also apparently a weather machine). It's time travel, you gotta do something completely nonsensical and brain-exploding or else it just isn't right.

Ahem.
Crono Trigger/Cross.
Those methods of time travel are COMPLETELY acceptable and nothing THAT wacky happens.(By the game's standards.)
See also, Back to the Future, and The Time Machine.
Also WaterWorld.

I have to say that the whole "some flame throwers hurt you while others kill you instantly" thing seems more than a bit arbitrary to me...

you know, as detailed as that volcano background is, I never really did like it. It always seemed to clash with whatever foreground you used.

By the looks of it, these weren't the hardest levels.
So still an awesome job on making such a death montage. That takes skill.

Yeah, that does seem pretty pointless. Like annoying for the sake of being annoying.

I'm not positive, but this DOES look like a last world or second-to-last world.

Probably second-to-last world. There was still one more time machine column to the right of the "Year Unknown" portal.

Then again, I believe only 4 submaps have been used out of a possible 6 .. meaning there could actually be a secret world too. Who knows?

It's the semi-final world.
The final world is the first world after the nuclear bomb, as seen in the intro.
The ocean level is still there, and it's a exact replica, except the whole thing is full of toxic..
You CAN get the secret exit, except it causes glitches, because it wasn't planned for secret exits.
It's barely possible, considering you only have a short while to breathe, and to get the secret you need to back-track.

Yes, if you handwave everything that ever happens as "That's how time travel works here don't question it it makes sense I promise even the parts that don't make sense," then you won't have anything nonsensical or head-explodey, and it makes perfect sense for an ancient elder yadda yadda yadda to have a preincarnation. However, since the Committee for Determining if Time Travel is Acceptable willingly accepts funds from big-time hollywood corporations, I hardly consider them to be a neutral resource.

As we all know, video games and movies (and the people that play/watch them) are the pinnacle of quantum physics or whatever time travel's classified under. So, let's all turn this into a five page overblown argument where we're not even listening to each other and just stating and restating our opinions. Better yet, "Ha ha, raocow died several times in situations that should have been avoided."

So anyhow, is that the only type of flamethrower we're going to see, or does this game have the more "traditional" flamethrowers on future levels alongside the crazy burning potato plant type things? What with the Boomerang Bros. and Roto Discs, I would have thought that adding those types of flamethrowers was a cookie-cutter type addition to an existing hack.

Technically, those two are the exact same blocks (hurt Mario on some frames, do nothing on the others). It is just a matter of graphics. But given how the creator didn't use them in what would seem to be the most logical place (i.e. today's levels), I kind of doubt they will appear at all.

Did we ever actually see this in action, though? It seemed that raocow only died when he was mini-Mario, but that could have just been a coincidence.

It's not a science, it's magic.
You can NOT go back in time without altering the future/present, UNLESS you were meant to do that, but the risk that you weren't would make it too big to actually do that, providing you own a brain stem.
Future travel, yes. Past, never, as only people with a brain are aloud to use them.
Mario was OBVIOUSLY meant to be there, as the sphinx was already destroyed, ergo, he was just running around in the ruins.
This is evident because there is no Great Pharaoh Stone Yoshi in any other games.

Nonsensical.

Brain-exploding.

QED.

It's a video game, just sit back and enjoy the ride and don't pretend it'll make any sense in the end.

At 1:12, he goes from Super to Regular Mario from hitting the fire, at 1:49 he goes from Super to Dead. Odd, looks like it was the same tank, so I guess Cypher was thinking along the lines of getting killed between two muncher plant fire trash barrel things would kill you, but the edge ones would just hurt you? Or I'm disoriented from all the cuttings.

Everything exists, just as different probability branches. No need to change or accommodate for anything, as it already has and will happen.

Anyway, way to make a death montage seem less annoying than it probably was. I'm slightly impressed.

Would you really rather have practically no progress, and just the same screens over and over and over and over and over and over and over? When rao's getting stuck like this, he also talks less/stops commenting since he's experienced enough to know what he's probably going to cut out, and that only saves himself some nerves. You don't wanna fall into some sort of trance from replaying the same sequences a million times, and lose focus on the game since you're talking so much and getting annoyed at the anti-progress that's bound to happen. IMO. It's okay that he's cutting out what he feels like cutting out, he has some quality standards to fulfill for himself, too.
Hell yeah.
Like in good old times.

Im still watching through his older videos (he has something like ~1700) and i do enjoy them.
And you hit the point. I like to watch them because they are more emotional and twisted .. sometimes even tedious.
They are and feel so more 'real'. And they vary much more due to that reason.
Look at this video:

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid= ... 3&hl=en-CA#

He tries to do this single part for something like 10 minutes.
Youre gonna see him very enthusiastic in the beginning part of the bullet ride.... you see him all demoralized ... and then all like "I finally did it !" after being done with it !
Thats what i mean. Very emotional and human ... but less goofying and saying funny things around.
Not that i have any problem with that.

raocow changed his style a lot since the last two years.
Oookay... this is still some extreme video as an instance for what i mean. And this one would never be uploaded by him on youtube or somewhere else again, i guess.
It just doesnt fit the audience anymore.
Much too special... maybe even... fetish xD
(okay that sounded weird... )

But i liked it this way.
Thats my opinion. Still wanted to share it, even though most people wouldnt agree with me.

Oh and btw. it was something i felt in AUS again. So AUS was another very positive series.
He even turned the commentaries off for the sake of being not spoiled. And thats saying a lot !

But maybe its just me and it didnt even change so much. It could be just the way i perceive it.[/color]
