Outside of blatantly misfired examples like 3-4, though (of which there are no more of that I've heard of plans to address) I don't want to start going nuts and spoiling things or forewarning puzzles/mechanics all over the place, mostly because it's been a long time and I wouldn't remember half of the tricky spots in levels anyway. If there's a trait to an enemy or tool you're using that'd be good to know for when it shows up again in the future I'll point it out, but otherwise there's really just a few outright glitches left and the rest is all problem solving.

One of which is coming up soon, actually. I haven't seen this happen for anyone else but it happened for me so it's worth mentioning. In 3-6 I've had the goal ring outright fail to spawn for me and the game camera get really screwed up. If this happens just run a long ways left and then head back and it should fix the problem. Just so you don't get there and think you have to redo the whole thing. It probably won't come up anyway.

Dammit raocow I warned you about the frogs. Never trust yourself around the frogs.

This is another one of those levels where I like the aesthetic design. The idea of 'draining' the water is visualized pretty cleverly.

Fun fact, Froggy's 'health' is entirely dependent on the force of your eggs. If you rebound them off the walls of his stomach into his uvula, it'll take fewer shots. Kind of impressive detail on the original programmers' parts.

By the way, call me crazy, and someone who's played the original more recently can answer this, but did Yoshis Fan alter this fight to have the acid at max frequency at the start of the fight? I seem to remember it acting more progressively in the original fight.

EDIT: I should say fight more.

Hey, the last level was Blargg's personal fortress! Awesome.

One thing that always bothered me about the Froggy fight is the relative size of those Shyguys to Froggy's stomach--they seem far too tiny, even in extra-large edition. If you look at their respective normal game sprites, our fiend should be able at absolute best to get a single Shyguy max down his gullet before his gut bursts open, yet from the inside, he somehow appears to be able to accommodate a much larger number. I suppose it's always possible that they're not actually intended to be normal-sized Shyguys at all, but some sort of special mini-Shyguy analogous to a Microgoomba, although we never really see anything in the normal game like that to confirm this--though it would have made for a somewhat interesting enemy type, come to think of it.

Also, what always disturbed me about the conclusion of this battle was not so much Yoshi's undignified exit as the fact that when he defeats Froggy, the latter's stomach implodes. He may be an enemy of yours who also just swallowed you alive and whole, but that just looks painful.

In the froggy fight, up to two shyguys will appear, and you will at most have two eggs at a time.

Taking the time to go check out the original fight out of boredom I guess it was both: the acid drops at its heaviest rate from the getgo, and the spawn points were shifted off-center so there are no safe spots.

You still ain't seen nothing yet as far as more threatening bosses...

When I was younger, I could never finish the Frog stage with 100%. That boss fight was literally impossible for me to do without getting hit.

I don't think I've ever tried to 100% the game since then, so I don't remember how I've done since then.

Remember the game's commercial? This is probably the part of the game that comes closest to the advertisement (which is totally "not at all," but stomachs are involved so there you go). Man, video game commercials are weird.

It sounds like a case of "Hey, I have an absolute ton of leftover level slots, so I might as well make use of them for the final secret level" type deal. Smart guy, I think.

(I'm still only partway through world 6. Haven't gotten that far yet, but I'm definitely interested in it.)

Yes, I actually assisted in beta testing it too if I recall. If 6-S is longer than that, then .. holy crap.

Wait, so you're doing some of the Vanilla Contest Levels now too? Neat!

I have a quick question though. In addition to the top 10 (or in this case, 11) levels, do you mind doing like, the bottom 2 or 3 as well? I just like seeing how hilariously bad they are and your reaction to them.

The beginning being designed around egg management reminds me of that one Kamek's Revenge level, where you're forced into having one egg through five automatic key pickups. I always thought that was a clever challenge. It'll show up again once or twice for certain sections of level in this hack, I think, but I might be making that up.

Oh, raocow, if you get too pissed at 3-8's boss and it doesn't seem like you're getting anywhere after too many attempts, and you want the solution, post and let me know. It's a really, really hard battle to complete without getting hit so you're not alone in having trouble. There are a couple of solutions (one that's intended after you figure out the pattern behind the fishes' AIs, the other kind of a cheap out I found) but they spend a long time emerging, and without them you're in pure chaos.
