It actually wasn't that linear. There where several paths you could take.
But yeah, this is the non-linearity that still works in a Mario game. It shouldn't be any more non-linear then this though.

In response to Spade's level:

I guess that is the deal with having three totally different judges. While two of us may just find it "meh", the third may either really like it or really hate it, which can dramatically skew the rating (as it did in this case). Not that it's a bad thing though, since we all have our different opinions, but eh.

I hope raocow plays it through to the end. It was amazing! :)

There is another level before that. Atma's level.

But yeah
raocow should really split Jimmy's level for each pipe in the hub so it takes 3 days to fully complete

Aqualakitu's Score:
Supertails:
SCORE: 83%
ST's comments: As the title suggests, this is a very large, maze-like level. Thankfully it doesn't end up being too confusing. The level design is pretty good, the music fit, and there was a whole lot to discover in this level, including a yellow switch. There were a few small oddities though, such as an odd palette for a pipe and rope. I would say, however, that the graphics could've been more cohesive: you'd emerge from a SMAS-styled room into an area with YI graphics, and it seemed strange to emerge out of a pipe that was in a different style. Still, a good level, and the boss at the end was a nice touch.

SNN:
SCORE: 85%
Comments:
+Nice variety of castle graphics throughout the level.
+Great difficulty range - wasn't too hard or too easy.
+The non-linearity is what makes this level stand out. It's huge!
-Proved to become rather confusing at certain parts, which may be a turn-off.
-There was a very minor glitch with one of the pipe palettes in the vertical YI castle tileset room.

Roy:
SCORE: 87%
Comments:
+ You had nice puzzles, such as needing the help of Chuck to get the trampoline. The whole level was a nice, long puzzle, either way.
+ Music fit okay. Custom graphics, even though commonly used in other hacks too, were decent.
+ I like how you played with that YI door to be able to enter a different room depending on where the door was located.
The Bully Boss, even though a quick one, was nice to see. Any boss is better than SMW's boring ones.
(Well, okay, not the hit-this-256-times-to-get-a-1up-mushroom-bosses.)
- A few palettes were off, such as one the pipes, and the Bully Boss's palette was a little bit odd too.
Not too eye-searing though.
- You could create cut-offness in that ghost house part when the P-Switch is on, and you collected the brown blocks. Just a detail, though.

OVERALL SCORE: 85.0%
The next two levels are two of my personal favorites.

I really enjoyed today's level...my only complaint is that we lost the rockin' P-switch music to chipmunking :(

Today is what you get when you have a bunch of different ice creams in your freezer, but all of them are almost empty, so you take what's left of all of them and throw it all together in a bowl.

It's like the author ran out of Mario World, and didn't have enough Yoshi's Island, Mario 2, or Mario 3 for a level either. So he just mixed them all in a way that, for some reason, actually works. It's not pretty, but you get a nice chocolate flavor all the way through, with hints of something else in every bite.

The next level is awesome! Prepare for a really hard custom boss!
Btw, raocow, with most custom bosses, the amount of hits left can be seen in the status bar.

Today was nice. I liked the graphics and I liked the custom ball blowing plant guys. Touhou music is nice too. I don't really like the Hit Point stuff, that just seems so out of place in a mario game and the custom boss was too easy to beat.
And what is the 20 + 20 supposed to mean?
Also 800 Youtube Videos! Congratulations raocow!

The first time you did Phantasm's voice really reminded me of one of the bosses from Diddy Kong Racing.

Except for the part where it was Mario talking... Would Phantasm say, 'You're next, Phantasm!' I doubt it. PS I also beta tested this level as well.
Atma's Score:
Supertails:
SCORE: 89%
ST's comments: A very fun and varied level overall. The story helped set the scene for the level itself, and it had
some good design with interesting challenges and obstacles. The music was very fitting for the level, though I wasn't
extremely fond of the FG used. Though difficult, the bosses were excellent and a whole lot of fun to try and defeat.
Other sprites, though, seemed a bit random in their placement: such as the Bloopers though. Still, a really nice
level to play.

SNN:
Title: Phantasm's Tower
Author: Atma
SCORE: 83%
Comments:
+Very creative bosses, although Phantasm is extremely difficult.
+Loving the graphics style throughout the tower. The foreground's animation was a tad annoying at times, but overall, it looked great.
+Pretty solid story within the level.
-The difficulty range was quite big. Some parts of the first room were much harder than parts of later rooms.

Roy:
SCORE: 89%
Comments:
+ Nice music, suits the atmosphere.
+ Nice status bar rearrangement. The other kinds of ASM you used also contributed to the level in a positive way.
A very fun, but also tough boss. The attack pattern changes, even the boss changes. I liked it.
- I really couldn't find anything major.
But yeah, the boss was a bit annoying during that phase in which the room went dark for a little time. This is just a small thing, however.

OVERALL SCORE: 87.0%
raocow! please note that you will need a lot of time to complete the next level... and yeah.
EDIT: Oh, I see.. five videos, eh?
Sounds about right. Took me a good hour and a half.

5 videos. Whoa nelly. That's like, 55 minutes of 16-bit jumping noises.
Pandemonium Fortress 2 is my personal best hack so far. Go on and play it.

Great job raocow!

This level was awesome! It seems much more appropriate for its place than the last two we've encountered. I love the health thing, and the boss enemies were awesome. The level itself was really straightforward and direct, but fun all the same.

Awesome level

Just for your information: The Touhou music you couldn't place was Necrofantasia, Yukari's theme from Perfect Cherry Blossom. You remember Yukari, right?

Also spoiler: I'm so totally going to use that song for at least one ASMT boss battle. It's awesome.

Did you seriously did everything in one go? I would have advised you to split it up and upload it on 3 separate days. Ah well that was hard to do without spoiling anyways.

Holy shit! That map music was FFIX's Mount Gulug!

(I say FFIX because the beginning sounds more like that song than it does for the song it takes from, FFI's Gurug Volcano. Either way FUCK YEAH GREAT FINAL FANTASY MUSIC)

I should probably actually watch the video now but that was going to bother me forever.

EDIT: Okay I actually watched the video. That auto-scrolling portion with the donut blocks reminded me of the dragon boss's area from Mega Man 2, was kind of expecting something like that, but I figure that was probably my own expectations.

The Phantasm himself reminded me of the final boss dude from An Untitled Story. Purple robes, no face, and the fearsome power to control colored circles.

Also ugh FF6 music for the boss, but I guess that's to be expected from someone who's name may or may not be a reference to the mistranslation of Ultima Weapon from that very same game. And that Werewolf with the lights going out was kind of a terrible idea, if you ask me, because it seems like it made the boss more luck and random jumping than anything else. Other than that, though, that was a pretty neato level so I liked it. GOOD prize.

Chocolate covered in delicious chocolate fudge with two candy canes sticking out of the top.

There are two kinds of chocolate. The kind that adds to the flavor, and the kind that's added to the flavor to change it. In this case, the chocolate adds to the flavor, and it feels real and consistent. There are only two things that really feel tossed in, the lava squids and the darkness during the boss fight. Take out or adjust those two small things and there'd be no reason for anyone to complain about the chocolate here.

If this level didn't win, the last few must be amazing

mistranslation of Ultima Weapon
Technically, the only 100% accurate translation is Arutema. "Atma" is missing a syllable, but personally I prefer it (and the more technically correct "Altima") over "Ultima."

The translation is more likely to be Ultima because it is a shortening of the word "アルティメット" (Arutimetto) which is how the Japanese write ultimate.

I am completely amazed at how much effort has been put into today's level. I mean wow. And I loved the lava puzzle area. Awesome level.
