Chocolatey Shenanigans! - SMWC's Chocolate Level Contest

Chocolate.

There are several non-vanilla elements that are required for beating the level, and they are an integral part of the level. Taking the chocolate out would significantly change the flavor, for the first time ever. So say what you will about the level design, the length, submitting a final level, submitting a level with a huge bug, and whatever else you don't like about this one. It's the first level where the chocolate feels like an essential part of the level, so it gets the first pure chocolate rating.

Specifically, it's like a giant, door-sized block of solid chocolate. Yeah, chocolate is nice and all, but trying to eat the whole thing in one sitting is tedious and you will become completely sick of it by the end.

That level was baking chocolate. While technically, yes, it is chocolate, it tastes like crap.

Seriously though it felt like one gigantic fetch quest. Go through a maze to find a P-switch, which gets you to a trampoline, to another maze, to another P switch, to another maze, to a silver P, etc etc... it also looks like a level that is more fun to play than it is to watch.

I have to disagree with people saying this level was baking chocolate - unlike baking chocolate, it didn't seem too bad at first. It was after slogging through massive amounts of it that it started to become completely terrible.

e: but to avoid being predictable, yes, I was being rather lenient on this one in particular. I have played pretty much all of SCORPION's hacks in the past, and therefore knew his style and game-plan, unlike the other two judges. Still, the difficulty was utterly absurd, and yes, it did take away from the fun. (and yes, I was rather astounded to see that he didn't even bother making a level for it. eh.)

Besides, you folks need to realize there this is still ranked near the bottom. Most of the levels before 15th were average, at best. The really good stuff comes later.

...aside from that, I don't really have much to say. I've already played them all, obviously, so nothing here is really new and exciting. I do enjoy raocow's reactions to some of them, though.

Well, to be fair, it "sort of" makes sense to use the last level from an existing hack, because those are the levels that are going to go all-out and do everything they can, and in a Chocolate Contest, going all-out can be a concern. Being too lazy to pick up Lunar Magic for anything more than ExGFX, I'd assume it takes quite a bit of thought and time to make a level as large as this one.

Also to be fair, it got really stupid really fast.

Yeah, it would probably be neat to give one of his thingies a try just for a few levels, just to try something that isn't supposed to be FINAL LEVEL TIME ARGH. He did have a good feeling for what's objectively Chocolate, just not what's Fun Time Chocolate. Then again...

SCORPION's levels are notorious for things that don't work correctly, along with super long and challenging levels with bright colors everywhere. It's his style...

Today I'm going to do a copout, because this same description applies almost word for word.

Today is good old fashioned chocolate chip.

Initially, you'd probably think of it as more chocolatey than the vanilla with chocolate syrup from a while back. I mean, chocolate is actually part of the flavor name! But then you realize that the chips are more for texture than flavor, and you'd really be happier with the chocolate syrup. And of course, the base is still pretty much vanilla.

I say, bring on the hacks that do more than add one gimmick and change the graphics. Or at least ones that were designed around the one gimmick instead of just made to show it off.

I have no idea why this rated several places higher.
