It's SCORPION's level, if anyone wants to know.
Tomorrow's going to be fun, eh? :D

Yeah, the reason why this level is ranked so low is probably because only the level itself gets judged. OW doesn't matter.

And the level itself could have been better. Lemmy as a boss in this kind of modified hack is just an anti-climax.

Oh and lately there seem to be quite a few hacks that have energy bars in some way.
But I have never seen a save point used like that. That was cool.

edit: and just because you have so much trouble with SCORPION's level, I'm gonna play it now. Not saying I can help you though.

Yeah, when I found out the energy bar was a patch, I was like "... ah. So it's just kinda tacked on then".

The world is so wonderful without knowledge!

I think I know where you are stuck. Assuming the door that won't open for you is the second one in the first area.
But let me play further to see if there is another point that you might mean.
When you get back after you have the key, you need to take the springboard with you all the way to the door in the first area. There you have to use it to get on a higher ledge

Oh nooo, I'm way further
at some point after the midpoint, there's a place where you have to do a star-run over spikes. There is a door a tiny bit later. AT the end of this corridor there is a key, which I manged to get. Though the door doesn't open, and I can't go back because of all the spikes.

Just because you can use ExGFX and patches doesn't make you a good hacker, it just makes you patient and experimental.

Not to say today's level design was bad, no no, it was just a bit "chunky" for lack of a better term.

I'm stuck there as well.

SCORPION's levels are notorious for things that don't work correctly, along with super long and challenging levels with bright colors everywhere. It's his style...

Hate to break it to you Rao, but all of that flashy stuff like the energy bar and custscene tool is all available for download on smwcentral. I've seen all of that jazz just about a million times before.

Today's level is French Vanilla. Yes, we're back to the very first rating.

But this time, it's served in a bowl made of solid chocolate. Yeah, that's a lot of chocolate. Unfortunately, it's all part of the presentation, which kind of misses the point. Yes, there's a lot of chocolate there, but you're not going to get to eat much of it. You're still being served some differently-colored vanilla.

Oh yeah, I remember scorpion's level was the one that I randomly downloaded while the contest was still going (I think? It looks really familiar) and I got fed up with it pretty quick

raocow, let me explain a few things about the story in today's level. A small smw hacking community, Team Haunted, is making a collab hack called the Phantasm War. This is castle number two from the collab. Later on, in Atma's level entry, the same story will be played at the start, because his level is the final level in the Phantasm War.

Also, this level was originally going to have a real custom boss, but I guess Electron (a good friend of mine) never had the time to make it.
Heh, I thought if you kept unlocking stuff you'd be able to see my level. :P (For the collab, not my contest entry.)

PS I'm a staff member at Team Haunted, that's how I know all about this. >.>

EDIT: I almost forgot. Everyone should go watch this. It's pretty freaking awesome, it's a trailer for the Phantasm War.

I loved the Secret of Mana Music at the beginning. The Level it self was kinda meh. The Overwold however is just amazing, I never have seen Savepoints in an SMW Hack, thats somthing really amazing!

I should have known. Today's level felt a lot like a demo of something that has a lot more than one level.

The save point was made by carol. He included it in a pack when he released his overworld spritetool.

What the hell is up with these people using levels for other hacks. That is so lame and I'd be tempted to skip over them if it weren't too late and I could tell ahead a time.

Once both WtH? and ASMT are released, I want someone to make an Epic Trailer TM to introduce the Demo Mythos TM.

I have to agree raocow, I would rather that people made new levels for the contest, but you'll want to play Atma's level anyways. It's unbelievable.

I could try to make one if I got TAS videos or a completed SAV file, but I'd also need to know the base story you'd want.

Also, I hated SCORPION's level. I read the judges reviews of it, and the whole reason it finished low is because it's too confusing.

Meh. Seen almost everything in this level before. Or, well, the opening and overworld. Pokemon Darkness D.2 has a "Save House" (not sure what its name is because I can't speak French) and SMW 2+3: The Essence Star has cutscenes aplenty in the beginning. It also has a submersible, and Pokemon Darkness has that Energy Change thing. And then there's the Coin thingy in Essence Star as well. You use the coins to buy stuff like Keys (as in, the actual level keys used to get secret exits) and lives and other things.

But the level did look alright. Nothing too fancy, but not fancy enough. A level worthy of the title "Meh".

And this is why I can't bring myself to hack SMW anymore. We can do cutscenes and save points and all sorts of cool ASM, but it's all commonplace now and no longer gets you anything. Only thing I ever hear good things about is graphics anymore, and graphics don't make the game, only pretty it up.

only programmers and hackers should be allowed to make video games. no one needs level design, since we can just add some fancy stuff like the wiimote. woohoo

What?!

Well, not for me! I get some decent 'wow' sometimes, but in the end all that matters is level design.

For example, today's Choco. The graphics are really nice, but god this is a chore to play.
