GMC Jam #5: No effort thread title to match the games
So, the start of a thing. Looks pretty cool.
EDIT: Yo. Backstory. The Game Maker Community Forum is a wonderful place that gave you AUS, Karoshi, Runman, etc. Since around this time last year they have been hosting a 72-hour game-making contest to stimulate the posters to actually make something. You see, on the GMC it is a beloved hobby to argue about random pointless trivial things (I am not making this up) and someone got the idea that we should actually be doing something, instead of just talking. You know, like making games.
It's ran every 3 months and is voted on by the Game Maker Community itself, and the voting is currently active so that means you all could technically vote. Each Jam has a theme and the winner of the Jam gets to pick the next theme. That's about it.

Emm, the pancake thing resets when a falling pancake gets to the bottom of the screen, man. you're probably supposed to use the laser to quickly get rid of the falling pacakes and the green bullets to damage the big pancake. It's too bad we didn't see more of this because of that thing ! Oh well.
Also let me guess, you played this game after S.Mario...?

I would comment on the current video, like of the quality and whether or not I liked it, but it would probably strike as ego-inflation mixed with gushing about shows I like. So I've decided to be silent on this episode, except in my youtube comment which basically says what Jesuis just said.
EDIT: Also, I am makerofthegames and my partner in crime is Speedchuck. This is somehow important.Me to the rescue: You cannot let a single pancake pass you, or it resets. Truth be told, this section is based off of my Jam #2 game, which was at least a super billion bajillion times harder and also the hardest thing I've ever spawned. Seriously, it's a marathon game, don't play it. But yeah, don't let them pancakes pass. You can't fire your laser and shoot them greens at the same time, and only them greens do damage to the boss. Also laser doesn't affect medium sized pancakes either.

Re: GMC Jam #5 more like GMC....Uhm..
But I just said not to play it!
Oh well. Here's your link: Buh.
Play the 'new' version, the old one has even worse controls, and in these versions you can only fire a laser by pressing Enter, not up.
I myself haven't actually completed it. While testing, I let myself play the later parts without playing the beginning parts just to test if it was possible to complete. For Gaming 404, I nerfed the health of everything, made things move slower, and the room is even taller so you get more space before they fall off the bottom of the screen.

Ah, the first proper trainwreck of a game. But hold on a minute, do they even use that style of plug anywhere in Europe? I've only seen that type in North America (and to a lesser degree Japan, but the 2-prong, ungrounded/unearthed variant seems to be far more common there). Europe tends to use a larger, rounder, 2-prong version, with Ireland (and the non-Eurozone UK) having a very different version with two rectangular, horizontal prongs, and a likewise rectangular, vertical earth/ground pin. Who would imagine such a finely crafted game would be deficient in its research?
Re: GMC Jam #5 more like GMC....Uhm..
I think what your supposed to do is build a stack of three/four coins, use the bottom coin to carry the stack over to the lasers, and then the top coins can go on the black platform and over the lasers.

Meh I always find these "autorun" games so lazy in terms of design and just boring overall. It's like, you can litterally do only TWO actions in the entire game. Plus you're pretty much forced to learn every single obstacle, because in a lot of cases, if you jump a bit too late you'll land too close from the next obstacle that you couldn't see and will inevitably die and restart all over.
That reminded me of these ostrich runs in the Lion King SNES game. These were just so bad compared to the rest of the game.

Re: GMC Jam #5 more like GMC....Uhm..
I just played the game to see if it's really harsh timing. And for me it isn't the case. It's quite the enjoyable game actually.
Re: GMC Jam #5 more like GMC....Uhm..
A "super neat aesthetic" that every indie game ever has used. Still a decent game, if not unoriginal.
Re: GMC Jam #5 more like GMC....Uhm..
So are there any good games in this thing? Apart from the AUS one which at least had some locally good gameplay in it.

Well, this is only game nine out of about sixty.
EDIT: By which I mean game eight. My game was not two games.

Hey, raocow!
Since the theme of this whole thing is "Facade", I think that when you're done playing all the games, you should play "Facade". It's some game from 2005 or so, and while it's pretty pointless, I'd like to see how you'd handle it. The game would literally take like... 5-10 minutes to play depending on how much of a jerk you are.
I'm purposefully being pretty vague about the whole game, cause I want to see you go into it blind. You can download it here:
http://download.cnet.com/Facade/3000-20 ... 14037.html

Wow. I'm quite surprised a game like this was made in three days. It's actually quite good, better than anything I can make in that period of time. I'll have to check out the full version of Bubble later, to see if story mode has any cool stuff.
Re: GMC Jam #5 more like GMC....Uhm..
There are actually three endings to ICTOAT, so if you want to play it again to find the other two endings, uh, please do so?

Although he was talking about a game that didn't have multiple endings AFAIK, it still applies as he's talking about the GMC Jam 5 as a whole.raocow wrote:I'm using 'roulette' rules here, where I play as much as I feel that I should. For example, in this game I get the impression there may be mutliple ways to end, but... this is the ending that I got, and the one I will stick to! If you are curious to know any other possible outcomes, or to explore other paths, I invite you to play the game for yourself. That's what they are out there for!

Yeah, I consider that game beaten, even if there are other endings. It was really fun, but I don't want to 'spoil' that fun by going further, if that makes sense?
