B-b-beret!? There's even more?

Post by Isocitration »

This first post is for the main game. See this post for the custom levels.

So I'm about 2/3 through the game and I just now realize that this might actually be a game that interests the talkhaus.

Anyway, Beret is a 2D indie puzzle game made by former SMW rom hacker Nigel Kilmer (aka Kiwisauce). Nigel is the creator of the SMW hacks Mystery of the 7 Orbs and the more well-known Super Challenge World, the latter of which raocow has LP'd twice.

The game is about a telekinetic scientist named Beret who must use his powers to solve puzzles, collect medallions, and fight bosses to stop the Evil Corporation from... Being evil.

To put it bluntly, the game is fantastic.

More info, screenshots, and downloads at Kiwisauce's website: http://kiwisauce.com/beret

I really would recommend giving this game a try for yourself!

Now for the LP stuff:

There's no way I will ever get the green medallion in level 6. (Yeah I watched what you did)

Is it easier with a mouse that isn't a touchpad? (my guess is it has to be)

There is probably a more efficient way to getting the level 6 green medallion than what I did, considering Kiwisauce stated in the comments that he'd never seen anyone use that method in the final room before.

About the touchpad thing, I can't say for sure since I've never used a touchpad for this game, but I can only imagine it would be hell. Try to use a regular mouse if you can, it's worked well for me thus far.

This actually is a pretty good game. And also a pretty good LP.
I'll definitely follow this.

Parts 20a and 20b are up!

Part 20a
Part 20b

Level 14 seemed oddly easy-ish for me compared to level 13. Though I still struggled quite a bit with a few puzzles... Perhaps the level was just shorter as a whole and I'm equating that with difficulty?

This is really good. All the things are really good.

My god, there's so much to catch up on though! It's a bit daunting.

Haha, just take your time...

Though yeah, I'm surprised I didn't think to post here sooner! I think the LP is up to 11 hours or so now. Yikes.

The episode 21 triad is/are now up!

Part 21a - Don't over-think that second room like I did!
Part 21b - Pretty interesting puzzles here.
Part 21c - I'm not convinced I did this one right, but hey, it worked and is pretty neat regardless!

The three parts of episode 22 are up!

Part 22a
Part 22b
Part 22c

And with that, the Ubiquitous Division is complete (with the exception of the green medallion which I'll be getting next episode as usual). I think the Department of Gravitation itself is now complete as well, which means... New music next time! That excites me!

Oops, looks like I forgot to update this yesterday. Level 18 was pretty difficult!

Part 24a
Part 24b
Part 24c

Yeah that second room... Dang, that took a while.

Definitely on the home stretch now. Only two levels to go!

Part 25a
Part 25b
Part 25c
Part 25d

And yeah, level 19 + level 18 speedrun is four parts, sorry!

Oh right, I should probably update the thread!

Part 26a
Part 26b

The game's getting hard... I believe it's the first time in this game where I couldn't figure out a puzzle during the recording!

Eighth consecutive post, hell yeah!

...

Anyway, looks like there's only one level left now. And also the level editor, however that works!

Part 27a
Part 27b
Part 27c

Wow the final level is freaking crazy! Not sure why, but I wasn't expecting anything like this at all. Especially that PLOT TWIST oho!

Part 28a
Part 28b
Part 28c

There will probably only be one more video in this series, which will show off a bit of the level editor.

And it's done.

Part 29 (Bonus)

The bonus is there because, well, I'd consider it completely optional to watch. I show off the level editor a bit, then struggle with concentration for the rest of the vid pretty much.

If you want to know my thoughts on the game though, you'll have to watch, HA!

Re: Oh hey it's Beret again. Custom level smorgasbord!

Post by Isocitration »

Ah yes, it's that time again. The time where I just realized that making a thread might be a good idea even though I'm pretty much halfway through with the current 'series.' Also I figure that I will play the level updates as they come out, so this thread may be updated every so often in the future even after the bulk of them are finished.

First up we have Chaosity by mizerydearia, a wonderful little level filled to the brim with tedious...ness:

Part 1a
Part 1b
Part 2a
Part 2b
Part 3
There will also be a part 4 eventually, but the author has not yet released the updated version.

Next we have the Tower of Evil by AkiTG. This is a 3 level (and counting?) pack with a play style more similar to that of the original game:

Part 1a
Part 1b
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Part 7
Part 8a
Part 8b
Part 9
Part 10
Part 11

More to come, of course! And perhaps even more if I can get more people here interested in the game...

Tower of Evil, part 5.

The middle section of the second level in the pack. Quite an easy white medallion to get. Usually the white medallion puzzles are the hardest. This one seemed a lot easier than it looked.

That seems like a running theme with the Tower of Evil as a whole.

Tower of Evil Part 6

Man, I made the anti-infectling room and the speedrun much more difficult than they needed to be!

I should probably abuse antimatter more when it's provided and not enclosed in some way.

Tower of Evil, Part 7

This time we're starting the Department of 1,001 Annoyances. The quality of this level seems to be a step up from the previous two! (In terms of puzzle complexity at least)

Part 8a contains a pretty straight forward room that serves mostly as a transitional room.

Part 8b on the other hand...

I gotta say... seeing you having to redo the whole thing at the end there was kind of heart-dropping, haha. Glad to see that once you 'get' the room it doesn't seem too rough in terms of execution.

Oh hey, here's the last three parts of Tower of Evil!

Part 9, where I get confused and try doing things that are much harder than what I should be doing.

Then there's Part 10 which demonstrates and exploits an unintended effect of Annoying Blocks. It is the Department of 1001 Annoyances after all~

And finally, the finale, Part 11, in which the power of flight is somehow achieved using only 5 blocks.

That ends AkiTG's Tower of Evil! Since I won't be playing any more Beret custom levels for a while, I'll probably just leave this thread as it is and update it when the time comes. As if I do a great job of updating it anyway.

Hope you guys enjoyed it, though I'm unsure how many people were actually interested, but oh well!
