Is that the intended solution?
I solved it by standing on the very edge of the block.

Well, I just figured that you're not supposed to get stuck in the first place.

Good job remembering the blue switch. That was the one time in the whole main game I really needed to ask for help, because I was being a brainless oaf about the whole thing.

Boy! You were doing the right thing all along with the key. You just weren't jumping high enough. Remember, momentum is important! Run a bit before jumping for the full height.
Also, you can use a shiriko bomb on the switch after you press it, but you can get that UFO back later, so don't worry about it. And that cucumber is annoying to get, but it's doable. As you noted, there are two fuzzies.

That "completely lose track of time" thing is probably a sign that you're having fun.
Either that or it's the same "just one more thing" problem that results in people playing Civilization games until 3 AM. But probably the fun.

General Gameplay tip: Your Stinky Balls arc downward as you shoot them. This could have helped you (a) save some time in getting the UFO by shooting the P-switch so you would be in a better starting position, and (b) aim at the middle rabbit better.

Yeah and I don't see any problem with longer videos on puzzle type games. There's always something going on or something to think about so it doesn't really get boring (although longer than the 20ish minute ones would be pushing it I guess)GauRocks wrote:That "completely lose track of time" thing is probably a sign that you're having fun.

raocow, now that you're nearing the end of world 3:
I recommend that you now go back to the worlds you've beaten after you're done with world 3 to collect items you missed. The wall-walk shoes will allow you to get most (not all) of the items, though not all of them need it. It will also make those worlds far simpler to navigate. (World 3 can wait until you get another helpful item, but you can go back if you want more collectibles.) Go back to Marisa's place too.
I suggest you do this because collecting the cucumbers and UFOS (and you'll see why you need the UFOs) will give Nitori better stats and prepare her better for world 4. This world is tough and you could use the extra stats.

Long is okay, but I think raocow could definitely do more aggressive editing on this series. I like watching him trying to solve a problem, but we really didn't need to watch 5 minutes of him failing in the exact same way on that wind/yellow switch puzzle in the yellow room.
Re: Gensou Tansaku Nitroid!: Now With 100% Less Medicine Phy
For me, I don't mind as much if he figures it out eventually instead of wasting the whole video on it. I'm impressed actually that he got that first key differently from the way I did it. The way I did it was drill just the first set of blocks, and then come back and do the run.
Re: Gensou Tansaku Nitroid!: Now With 100% Less Medicine Phy
I'm definitely a fan of switching items in the menu. I think it was around this time in world 3 that I said, "I have too many items!," and just started using the menu for everything because it's almost as fast as doing a full loop through through everything and is much more accurate/less confusing.
It's also a very good habit to have by the time you start world five. As you've realized the menu makes item switching instantaneous in regards to game-time. Something absolutely vital to how fast you need to switch items for a few of those puzzles.
I remember Kilga saying he had a really hard time on a World 5 puzzle because up to that point he switched entirely without the menu and had a hard time adjusting since at the point the game expects you to be perfectly on point.

This has always been my problem with these sorts of games. When the goal of the game is to figure things out, sometimes I'm at a loss as to what consists 'figuring out' or not.The Doctor wrote:Long is okay, but I think raocow could definitely do more aggressive editing on this series. It's like this game prides itself on making the worst, most tediously designed rooms ever.

World 3 was probably the most refreshing.

Oh raocow, you're exceeding my expectations in every way.
50 episodes for this series? I'm doubting it now!
Also the Puzzle in room 13 is crazy.

Re: Gensou Tansaku Nitroid!: Now With 100% Less Medicine Phy
It might not be 50, but it's still likely going to be a lot. World 4 is long, and World 5 is really really really long.
And everyone has said it, but just saying it again because it's that important: please get accustomed to using the item menu. I never even bothered with the forward/back buttons (mostly because I didn't know about them, but I knew things would get impossible without instantaneous switching eventually).

Heh. I'm on the world 5 boss, and I still don't use the item selection menu unless I absolutely have to. I guess I just don't like the way that pausing to switch items break up the gameplay.
I can definitely see why using it is beneficial even in situations that don't require perfect timing, though; I still keep scrolling through my items the wrong way embarrassingly often, which has led to quite a few stupid deaths. Earthkeeper straight into spikes, anyone? :V

Rooms? Sheesh, it's a metroidvania - I think you'll find it has an virtually unbroken and contiguous map.Ometeotl wrote:It's like this game prides itself on making the worst, most tediously designed rooms ever.

Since I imagine today's progress (which will be uploaded tomorrow) got you to the final save before the World 3 boss, repostan dis so hopefully you remember to do it at the end of the boss video.

Next/previous tool buttons work if you get used to the ordering so that know exactly how many times you press them. It may require you to plan ahead, but it's less intrusive and there's a better flow to the game this way, which is a nominal advantage. I did use the item menu a few times in world 5 though.
You should set the controls in a way that's convenient for item swap. I set up my controls this way: Z for tool, X for jump, Left Shift for run (so I can hold the button without much effort), and then A for tools menu, S for tool above and D for tool below. (I think of moving downward as "forward", but the game says otherwise.) The pause menu is set to Spacebar, but ESC key also works by default.

That item raocow bought earlier refills his health, right?
