I can't get over here, and there's nothing in the opposite direction. I'm confused at what you mean by the top left.

only stop when she no longer regenerates her bar and flies away

Interesting. I could've sworn I wasn't doing anymore damage to her after draining the bar twice.....I guess I'll have to check again.

There are a number of distances you can surmount with your power.
what the hell does that even mean? (yes, I'm stuck in room 3-13)
It means that Nitori can jump on her own.
In other words, try doing something first with what she has without relying on the help.
I'm still lost. exactly how do I get the key there in order to continue? I must be missing something, 'cause the only way I can think of is insanely difficult if not outright impossible

You can't get the key because you can't move fast enough, right? So try doing something first so when you actually try to go for the key, it will not take as long.
Also, stopped for today at the 2nd save point in 5-3. Wowzers.

I figured out exactly what I had to do, the timing and all, and kept trying until I finally got it.

Whoever says the audio is loud is so wrong. It's actually a little lower than normal.

Enough technical bullshit, this was the hardest variant of the boss?
It can be quiet tedious with all the different sections you have to learn.

Anyone designing a game should watch this latest boss fight video. This is how you do everything wrong with AI.

AHHHHH, today's video was so annoying! Not the boss itself, I figured out way before raocow did that the Bunny only jumps near you, and throws spheres far away. No, raocow himself was annoying:
Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on...
Ahhh!

I will re-estate that grapsing patterns is a lot simpler when you are not actually playing the game!

But yeah, I'll agree I wasn't at my best yesterday when I recorded this.

Hey maybe this request is out of place, but would it be possible for people looking for/giving out hints and solutions to do that in the Touhou subforum rather than this thread? I just want to read the discussion about the LP but the thread is filled with people writing about the later worlds...

Man, you restarted the fight a few times, and you never considered actually paying her and checking out other options? There's nothing with spending some mushrooms.

This was not the best pair of videos in the series. I guess we should've warned you about the puzzle nature of the boss beforehand so you wouldn't be so down by the end of the day. Her patterns were similar to Flandre's in Marisa World.

See? There are times when blind experiences of this game aren't that great.
this was the hardest variant of the boss?
No, the hardest is the option raocow couldn't "afford" at the time because of how many mushrooms he had. It's downright insane, and you need more health and tools to beat it comfortably.

The boss is complex but not necessarily badly done. Except that when you fight the super hard mode of the boss it glitches more often.

I really like the raocow videos where he struggles a bit before overcoming a challenging obstacle, but there was so much malice today! Wow. Obviously it's been said by everyone and their mom at this point, but the AI in this fight is actually really neat. You have almost complete control over Tei's movement as it's all conditionally based on your own movement. Again it's been said, but it's hard to watch people blame games for struggles of their creation, which luckily raocow doesn't do often, but when he does, he does it in spades.

Nitroid gets very unforgiving, and it will only get more so as you keep progressing, but it's not unfair. There is a big difference. Unfair is when you need to restart because the boss gets stuck someplace and you can't progress any farther. Unforgiving is when you need to restart because the boss gets stuck someplace because YOU put her there. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but a lot of viewers are totally hating on a really fun boss because their only experience with it will be this video.

On another note, fun translator trivia. The Earthkeeper suit is actually called a Jizo suit or a Kshitigarbha suit, which is the name of the Bodhisattva the statue references. You often find them near shrines and temples, where Tanuki like to play tricks and they'll take the shape of the statues to blend in. Unfortunately "Kshitigarbha Nitori" doesn't hold much meaning to most of the western world so vgboy suggested "Earthkeeper" which is derived from the kanji, and ultimately what we went with.

from an AI standpoint tewi is pretty easy to figure out as long as you don't stand in one spot waiting for her to do something different (spoilers, she won't) as all of her actions are based on the distance between you and her, on both axes, so -1 for predictable yet still annoying AI

then there's that "oh woops, you bombed that dirt patch without clearing a path for tewi? RESTART" thing that's annoying as fuck, but this can be prevented fairly easy because hint hint, the little rabbits don't come on their own, it's tewi who summons them once she gets off the staircase (when she did the spirit ball attack animation and didn't shoot the balls she was actually summoning rabbits from the right, not glitching) so you can just prepare the way and then lead tewi down

she's also glitched as fuck, and this becomes more evident when you face her at her hardest, but even at the level raocow fought her she stills keeps glitching (falls down floors, gets stuck to the left of the last dirt patch, possibly others, on one occasion she even went down the yellow spike pit and then jumped out)

all in all she's pretty bad for a boss, the puzzle isn't that well thought out and on the second part mostly relies on trial and error

disclaimer I actually liked the battle not counting the stupid glitches and me totally not seeing the solution to the blue switch puzzle, I'm just stating why people wouldn't like it

World 4 Boss
Danmaku out of nowhere!

This battle would be significantly more awesome if I could focus, though. Dying on the stupidest bullets...I hope I only have to drain her life three times.

Edit 1: Finally done, beat it. What a nice game that.... got really stupid at some parts. Honestly I think I like the music more than anything else, but it was fun.

I guess there's World 5 now, oh boy.

Yeah, I pretty much completely agree with all you said.

I don't know whether the exploring element will be lost with future worlds or not but I hope it isn't. From what people posted about world 5 (without reading the spoilers) it seemed pretty linear but I hope there'll be puzzles that give you a wide area consist of a couple rooms because those are always fun.

I'd actually advise raocow to steer clear of this one

it's mostly precision every step of the road, and most of the time you don't even know if what you're trying to do is flat out impossible or exactly what the game wants you to attempt

comes suspiciously close to what kaizo would be to the rest of the game

but if I actually told raocow to not do this, I'd be ruining the fun for all the little boys and girls who love seeing him struggle with these things, so go for it champ!!!
on that matter, is this what I am supposed to be doing
Image
it looks doable enough, and I can't think of anything else, but I'm not gonna spend the next 15 minutes attempting a jump that won't lead to anything

Here you go ya big baby. But good job figuring out Stage 4 on your own.

Considering today's video and OC's cry of Kaizo in the spoiler tags, it might be a good time to share some really profound wisdom Desuno shared with us when Alex and I asked him about Stage 4.
"このゲーム、難しいところ多いです。無理しないでくださいね"
Roughly "This game is hard. Please don't try to force things."

Seriously, compared to how things used to be when Nintendo Hotline was our only resource, this game is cake. Just take a break if you start to feel frustrated. The solution will come to you. Hard doesn't mean you can't have a good time. But if you're the type who gets "annoyed as fuck" because you have to restart things when you screw up, this game isn't for you.

Robin's idea was also a very good one. I don't see it happening, but if you guys want to talk about things so far ahead that is has nothing to do with the LP, the Nitroid thread in the touhou subforum is probably a much better place.
