Glad Rao decided to test the leaf with each character after I told him about them affecting the characters in a different way lol.

More Yoshi controls:
Similiar to how you can aim fireballs and hammers upward, you can also control how Yoshi eats. Normally the dino will bend down and stick out his tongue along the ground, but if you hold up Yoshi will stand upright and eat.

So, uhm...

Yo peeps who have used the smbx for a while, mind tossing a little 'quick start' guide to starting a new episode sort of thing? If only to satiate my own curiosity? I'm aware of the 'manual' that comes with the file but, well, I wouldn't mind a more personable model going on, haha~

Making an episode is EXTREMELY simple. Unlike Lunar Magic, you start out from scratch. And making an episode is very similar to making a SMW hack with Lunar Magic. Start out by making an outline of your overworld. Make some levels, then add them to the overworld by typing in the file name (without the .lvl extension). You also have the option of not having an overworld, like in the more classic Mario games. All you have to do to play the episode is extract/add it to the "worlds" folder. Here is a screenshot of what your episode folder should look like:
As you can see, you have seperate folders for the graphics, named after the level's file name. Custom music goes into the episode folder, not with the graphics.

I don't think I gave a very good explanation, if you have any questions ask em.

Reaction to not-purple purple not-yoshi yoshi was the best reaction since Black Plague.

Maybe even better.

No.

But close.

Be more 'beginner' then that, Kokorov. What do you mean by 'start with an outline for your overworld', is that a file I create or is that I thing I do in the editor? The manual states that all games need this special overworld file but I don't know whatup!

I mean make the overworld you want in the editor but without the paths or levels. That's how I do things.

I've said it before, but if the creator is bored with the game then he should open source it.

Colors, no, but there were a graphics expansion that had Yoshi's Island style Yoshis.

Instead of me telling you all this stuff, why not read the manual?
You should totally name your next video All There In The Manual

You just open the SMBX editor, set Mode to World Editor (it will close your current level and give you a bunch of different tiles) and then you can draw a few tiles or scenery or whatever. It doesn't actually matter, Mario can only walk on Paths, and on Levels. So when you put a random yellow Level dot down somewhere (the Level tiles are all the same and just look different), you specify the Level Filename (e.g. raocow01), the Level's Name (what's shown as name when you go on it ingame), and then up to 4 Level Exits.

Oh, and when a Level has for example the SMW Exit set to be the Top Exit, upon completion it will automatically spawn all Path tiles that come out of above the level tile until they hit the next level or just a dead end.

And then you save the World file. The World is basically just like a giant topdown level that each episode only has one of, I suppose.

It's really a lot simpler than LM, just try around a bit I suppose, don't be afraid :V The official help file is also actually quite helpful, someone uploaded it here too for some reason: http://www.scribd.com/doc/37504956/smbx-help

Following on from Trotim's post.

The world editor let's you place tiles easily, you can choose between SMB3 and SMW tilesets as well. Music is a bit weird in this game, you just choose the music theme you want and place it on the actual map, when mario walks over it that music will play until he walks over another music tile which will change it. You have level tiles to choose from and you can put your own in with custom graphics, you can set up to four exits, all of them only opening a path in one direction or more. An example would be using the SMW Exit and setting the level to open a path east when the player has gotten the SMW Exit, the path would spawn straight away. There's a bunch of other options to, I suggest you just play around with it.

Man. It's kind of sad how a lot of the 'innovations' planned for a2mt would be dead easy to do with this thing.

Hey raocow, the black Yoshi has the powers of the red, blue, and yellow Yoshis combined.

I just want to show you guys a few things you can create with SMBX.

This is from my own episode, I'm not trying to show it off or anything, but I think people would like to see some stuff you can make if you put your mind to it.

I'm surprised there aren't more people using this engine now.

The contrast of levels here made me realize that In some respects, I think I prefer the SMB All Stars graphics to their SMB3 counterparts. I think this may in part stem from the fact that the original SMB3 graphics, already being the most detailed of the lot, received (at least as far as the sprite graphics were concerned) relatively little alteration, and thus end up still looking rather NES-ish, whereas the SMB graphics, having been much cruder to start with, were improved to a much greater degree. Alternatively, it may just be due to the fact that they're not as overused as the SMB3 graphics.
