I have so many thoughts and opinions about this game, having 100%'d it twice* in more recent times (most recently back in 2020).
But, for right now, I'll just let it speak for itself. It is very fond of doing that, after all.

(Also, on the off chance it matters, a morning LP is harder for me to update as immediately as I tended to for Kazooie, so updates should still be same day but may be later.)

* The first time was actual 100%. The second time, I gave it a good shot but I decided to not waste my time with a certain infamous Cheato Page.

this game is also a decent bit outright meaner than the first, as we'll see later

for now, someone should probably do something about the rotting corpse on banjo's lawn, yeah?

But raocow what if you don't get at least one new collectible per video. What if the game is stingy about you collecting things?

i think when i was younger i was NOT a fan of bottles dying because of how sad his family must feel but nowadays im like. "yeah no that's so dumb, he'll be fine eventually"

even the gray jinjos im like "wow that's dark but stupid"

rewatching digimon tamers has changed my opinions of death in media severely, focusing much more on gravitas and whether the status quo will stay affected or not

This game is so violent.

I'm glad Grunty has family who care for her and it's not just her awful gossip-loving fairy sister from the first game.

Something that people haven't mentioned yet- Grunty calls King Jingaling a traitor when she blasts him, which has some very interesting implications. If you hang around his throne room he'll talk about enemies, but they're not *hints* so much as they're just...things about them. Which implies a familiarity. They're also mild spoilers, so while they're worth showing off, maybe wait until after world 5 or so.

I'd be fine either way, because

Zombie Jingaling is the only place in the game you can learn Terry is male and therefore a hard-working single father.

you think you're gonna get

that last canary mary

? iirc you failed to do that both times according to the decaying q&a thread from 2009

apparently you have to carefully balance/game the rubberbanding it's kind of insane?

Re: BANJO-TOOIE - Getting Hit in First Person

Post by bbbrrr_it_cold »

When I played this as a kid, I would normally hold off on Targitzan because I found the boss fight kind of harsh. Then again, as raocow noted, the other fps portions aren't exactly easy either.

Kid me did have to cheat to beat the one in Grunty Industries, after all.

In any case, navigating them has gotten easier for my adult mind. Playing them, however, can still be a bit rough because the controls are adequate for it, but I wouldn't call them great. Part of me appreciates them for the variety they bring. Another part of me looks at other portions of the game and thinks that having things for the sake of variety isn't always enough...

As for super inconsequential things, you can always check the official color of any jinjo you collect. It just requires a trip to their house. I think the one you saved today was actually red, but I don't know for sure (and it certainly doesn't matter - you'll be getting all of them regardless, I'm sure).

not trying to be rude towards this game here, and answer this in an inline spoiler. but

do every single one of this game's fps dungeons feel like the worst fucking doom 2 map wads plucked from some 12 year old's windows 2000 pc with zero signposting or level design sense

i think that's very funny if that's the case

Wow, having to rest your thumb on a N64 control stick just that precise amount would be downright unpleasant. I remember my old controllers and their sticks loosened quite a bit, to the point that the deadzone from the center was half the distance you could move the stick. It would Not have worked for this part if I still had it today.

World 1 has a bunch of obstacles that can be dealt with using abilities that you unlock later in the game, if you decide to come back later in the game, but you also CAN do most of the world without having to backtrack later.

Also, as somebody mentioned in the comments, if you talk to the Stonies inside the kickball stadium as Banjo,
while they still speak gibberish, you can pick out some...choice words they say.

Also, I've always thought that it was strange that there's a special entrance to the code chamber if you've turned into a Stony,
that entrance isn't useful for anything else, and you literally can't do anything as a Stony in there.
Uh...Do I just sign here? What do you mean it should be obvious? There are people in this world...well...a whole lot of people that can't follow basic instructions!
