as someone who witnessed like a smidge of dev snippets from valentine's dms, if you're aiming to go 100% completionist with betterified 6 you're actively playing wrong
and i feel like duker is actively missing the point by complaining about it

Re: Betterified VI - Bestified - Kidney Stone
Maybe. But I definitely felt differently about Bosserified than some of the other stuff people had mentioned being different, like the strange, ominous room. It's always awkward balancing intent and feeling. People usually don't play according to how the developers want them to play. And that has to be taken into account as well. Not death of the author stuff, but that you probably haven't made a great painting if you have to do 3 pirouettes followed by a headstand for 40 seconds all while looking at it to see what's so great about it.
It's always awkward when a game has branching paths, because it's so easy for the branching to not make the game feel like it's worth a replay because not enough is different or even just that not enough looks like it would be different. That's also the problem with conceptual stuff like the path to Heaven being easier if Christian, assuming that's true. It's funny, but it's not worth a replay to a lot of people. Then again, maybe the game isn't intended to be replayed. Which is fine. But it can make the player feel like they're missing out. And that's definitely something I was feeling.
I think it's fine as is, but I wouldn't enjoy the game as much for it. No problem with that either. Can't perfectly please everyone after all.

Re: Betterified VI - Bestified - Kidney Stone
you are mistakenly assuming that the intent here is for the game to be replayable, when in fact it is not.

Two things worth noting about time.
1. Day is 6AM to 6PM, Night is 6PM to 6AM
2. The Time Room only affects the star hub.

Re: Betterified VI - Bestified - The Wiz
The crime token seemed to bump up your crime by a lot, so if they really have been scattered around the world, they might just be a means of quickly grinding up the crime statistic, rather than some collectible that would be meaningful to completely collect.
If I recall correctly, some NPC at some point mentioned something about the Star Hub at 3 AM specifically (the "witching hour").
Two people in the crime zone talked about the "Dangerous Core", Eli and Mogus Mole, might be an area we'll get to later? Speaking of which, Jimmy Jhoul says that a libertarian took the last coin, and Eli (the first guy in the crime lounge) mentioned being one. By the way, Mogus Mole is the guy we've always been encountering in the castles, and Minis Mole seemed to imply that it's "one of the strongest beings in history" today.
Great Big Field uses the SMB3 wood tileset. So the debug dialogue most likely only hints at its purpose if you haven't discovered that yet.
Daddy Brain installing Microsoft Outlook into protagonists' brains might refer to how you randomly receive emails.
Some remaining Star Hub info you found today:

Some remaining Star Hub info you found today:
- In an archipelago maze, an airship would be near the exit.
- Daddy Brain can be found in the Rinka egg cave. A liver is involved?
- One level (Misplaced?) has a third exit. I don't remember Misplaced, which level was that again...?

". Jimmy the big steely seems to say "the last time I saw you was back inBestified
", and then later "I was meant to be aboss fight
", and "And then THAT guy gotpromoted to a world boss, how's that fair?
", but I can't read the final block (not sure if it's nothing or just very, very scrambled)a

Re: Betterified VI - Bestified - My Little Unicorn
once, in a development vc, i was pondering the dialogue for the herald of the mogul and misspoke, saying 'sweal deal' instead of 'sweet deal'.
not only did we stick with this phrasing, 'sweal' has now entered my vocabulary and sees frequent use.
its taking the english language by storm.

Re: Betterified VI - Bestified - Lemon Mishap
I feel like you really could have benefited from scouting ahead here, since there's this unavoidable bar of fog pretty deep in here:

Having to properly get through the early sections again and again just to get another attempt at a very difficult (likely impossible) obstacle easily leads to frustration, but that frustration could have been avoided here.
(Actually, I considered the possibility of maybe circumventing the obstacle by going under and around the level through the black area, but I guess we just got confirmation that it doesn't lead anywhere.)

The thing about fog from my view is that I made the level and then some years later squp wrote the pilldo! dialogue and wanted something ominous and must've forgotten that eating fog is actually a viable verb in the game
