I never watched raocow's Savant LP, but I remember finding him nigh-impossible to use when I played the game.

Savant has the significant advantage of flight, so once you're over the initial learning curve with him, he generally has an easier time. But I do remember finding some of his windows to be on the awkward side.

It's worth noting that I believe you used Savant's alternate control scheme during the last playthrough instead of the menu-based weapon selection system you're using now, which might be amplifying the readjustment difficulties.

Savant has notable advantages over Boki. But then he also has a couple of windows and some weapons which are just ... kind of not good. Windows need to be on-screen to be able to fire. This most notably affects bounce, severely limiting your options if the enemy isn't near an interior corner (many aren't). Plasma is also unfortunate, since you only need to travel about one fourth of a screen for it to go off-screen.

So I was watching this and going "hey, maybe I'll play a few Hard Mode levels, been meaning to wrap that up sometime".

And then I did, got to the next miniboss stage, had trouble but beat it and then I went back and noticed that I didn't have the damage star for the last boss.

More than an hour later, I have it and I'm exhausted. Glad to have it done, but exhausted. Also, very thankful for boss checkpoints.

Of course, that's just Boki's final boss. Still need to do Savant's...

I have to say, this game has the only good low health beep I've ever seen. It's not intrusive and blends perfectly with the music!

there's one particularly delightful example that only shows up in

Extra World Hard

, but the in-game music player lets you try all the combinations possible and it's lovely

Something worth noting: if you press the jump/dodge button and no directions, Savant will just fade out of existence momentarily. This can be useful for dodging at times. For instance, on this boss it works on all of his charge attacks as long as you're not hanging out near the edge of the room.

Anyways, I managed to get the damage star for Savant's final boss since I last posted here. That means I finally have all the damage stars outside of Extra World.

Check your options menu for how to swap out weapons, there's a few different settings. I use one where I swap by pressing Down + Shoot on top of a weapon pickup, although this can sometimes mess me up if I'm ducking or using Savant.

I've always looked forward to seeing Copy Kitty pop up again on raocow's channel, so it's a little sad that this is probably the last run. Not sad enough to tamp down the joy of unbridled destruction, though.

You know, this LP did make me download the game again. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever beaten the whole thing? Either way, dunno when I'll have time to play it since I'm pretty busy with other stuff right now. I wonder how well it plays with keyboard controls...

I did 100% completion with a keyboard, and I think it works perfectly fine. I'm almost entirely certain the game only checks the 8 basic directions, so controllers don't have a strict advantage. Which I suppose means it's just about which fingers you prefer using, then.

Not only does raocow use everything else before trying the correct weapon, moments afterwards he acknowledges that the level title was pointing directly to it. Truly an impressive display.

"I don't know if [weapon combination] is 'good' good, but it feels so good" is the quintessential Copy Kitty experience.

It's great to see raocow get the hang of and enjoy using Savant so much.

I fully understand you stopping after Treacherous Maze, that level was brutal for me. What I ended up doing was going down until I hit the target that drops Wave, then I went back up and used it to deal with the dog. From there I used Radio Pulse to take out a few other troublesome enemies. Then I kind of improvised on the rest, and I still had to go through this process a few times because it's a tough level and I had several deaths.

In testing the recent patch that had released just before raocow's playthrough, I recently ran a fresh save file to 100%. I designed most of these levels, and at this point I know this whole game like the back of my hand. And yet despite this, Treacherous Maze still stood out as one of the few stages that got to kill me on hard mode. It's a nasty one!

Execution Chamber gave me a lot of trouble, I ended up going for the time stop.

That said, you handled the healing target in a needlessly-resource-intensive way - you could have just kicked your way to it. That would have put you in a better position at the alarms. (I handled them with Harvester, since I still had most of the energy for it due to killing the reaper while time was stopped.)
