wasn't lava lethal in sunshine? granted it only showed up in one stage

Yeah. In that level though, both the spikes and bad boat riding did the same, so I have a hard time blaming lava for being lava. >_>

There was a Pianta Village mission where the whole place was covered in lava, but it still had the butt-bouncing properties of the lava in SM64. However, the Pianta Village lava was the goopy kind, which must have been cooler than the lava inside of Corona Mountain. As far as 3D Mario games go, I think Super Mario 3D World is another one that actually has instakill lava.

The way the camera suddenly swings around in that section can be disorienting, too.

It has some great setpieces (all the rising sand stuff rocks) but it also has insanely dull segments like the tower with the five star pieces, and you have to do that twice!!! It sucks! Also the star that's repeated with the speed comet can each time go fuck itself

Whatever her name is, I just like it when he calls her "Rosa". It's cute, and it reminds me of Celeste when he called Madeline "Maddy".

It's cool how this game revisits gimmicks seen in previous galaxies and puts a more difficult spin on them. Nintendo seems to be pretty good with progression like this, at least with Mario games. As opposed to, say, SMW collab hacks, where ASM gimmicks tend to be one-off things.

I forget, but has raocow ever revealed how he's doing tilt controls? Some commenters have speculated that IR is bound to a second analog stick because of how the cursor keeps recentering itself, so now I'm wondering if tilt is mapped to the same analog stick.

raocow speculating on what a speedrun of the bubble section would look like was some prime foreshadowing.

Head canon: sound can't travel in a vacuum, so the voice acting was what Rosalina was actually saying and the words appearing on screen were simply Mario trying to read her lips. She has a habit of moving her lips even after she's done talking, like a character in one of those foreign motion pictures.

Anyway,

There are multiple bosses in the game that aren't actually doing anyone any harm and Mario just goes and Fucking Kills Them because they have a powerful magical object embedded in them apparently

The boss seemed to summon those Fishbones only out of self-defense, too. It was probably more scared of Mario than Mario was of it.

On the approach to Bonefin Galaxy, I can't help but think that the main planet looks like a giant face with Sonic eyes:

Not the hardest purple coin mission, but definitely one that feels the most like you're playing SM64 in its execution.

the first vine was placed as such to fling you into the second vine. the problem is that spinning mid-air kills your horizontal momentum, which lead to black hole spaghetti in today's video (also why raocow never collected the third star bit in the air after the second vine)
