Pikmin - Emperor Bulblax

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

I hated Pikmin as a kid. The time management was too stressful for me. I ragequit the game for good after I walked across a small body of water and my entire army suddenly thought it would be a good idea to take a swim.

I'm not gonna make a statement on how raocow should play his game because I dont do that, and I'm not watching this LP, but imo forcing "as blind as possible" playthroughs can hamper your experience with some games. This isn't to say aggressive backseating should be allowed though, Sebby is proof of that.

raocow isn't in the mood nor has any desire to like look up a small guide to try and acclimatize better with the gameplay and honestly whatever, no skin off my nose. He is LPing but it isn't an informative LP, it's just him playing through the game. The only people being a problem here is any "raolens" people shitting on a game over raocow having trouble with it, which are the worst kind of raofans.

As far as I'm aware, that hasn't been a problem with Pikmin so far, so.

Anyway none of this would happen if raocow only played Devil May Cry 2

It really looks to me like raocow's having fun, which is why complaints like Skye's are baffling to me.

Yeah, I don't see anyone unfamiliar with pikmin saying "raocow is having trouble so this game is bad" (which I agree happens sometimes). Because I think it only looks like raocow is struggling if you're super familiar with this game. To me, it's just been... he's playing a game, learning lessons one by one, doing fine and enjoying himself. And then some people who know the game way better than him getting frustrated in the comments.

Sorry for my potshot at guides, just a personal preference not really relevant to this.

Yeah my earlier post was fucking cringe, I deleted it because I didn't want to start shit in a thread of an LP I didn't even watch (I'd rather play Pikmin for myself than watch raocow suffer). My former friend Saturn Moriya, she had an account here, she's super into "organic first playthroughs" so I understand.

I'm honestly the kind of person who likes to experience as much as I can of a game in my first go, especially since I tend to play RPGs, and I'm bad at exploring.

It's been a while since we had such a civil thread where someone posted their opinion,
others disagreed with it, and then the original poster changed their mind too.

I think that at the end of the day, just let people play how they wanna play, some peeps enjoy raocow slowly learning how to play the game,
and other peeps get frustrated watching raocow play inefficiently, and you know what, that's fine too!

I do think though, that there's a lot of LPs out there of people playing this game,
and already having a solid grasp of how to play, all the mechanics, and how to be as efficient as possible,
that it's nice to have an LP where the person is truly playing blind and having to figure everything out on the fly.

It's surprisingly rare all things considered.
Uh...Do I just sign here? What do you mean it should be obvious? There are people in this world...well...a whole lot of people that can't follow basic instructions!

I'm personally a super fan of the organic learning in this LP. It reminds me of when I first played the game, and even if I wasn't knowledgeable about the game, being able to gauge Rao's successes and potential improvement spots is engaging in a sort of low-boiling intense kinda way. No matter how it plays out in the end, the ride thus far has been full of all sorts of interesting ups and downs. :catplanet:

That be Pikmin (of course), Kirby, and... does Metroid count?

Anyways, what I find fascinating is how much raocow outright ignores enemies that aren't directly standing in his way, even if it causes noticeable Pikmin attrition. I suppose that getting your start in Mario romhacks leads to a pretty different mentality than that of the common RTS player who kill anything hostile that gets vaguely close.

Olimar being a decoy for the Wogpoles that hardly hurt him due to hurtbox weirdness or something was amusing though. He sure does seem to enjoy learning he can punch enemies though, I wonder what will come of this.

a few notes about punching:
  • punching does 10 HP worth of damage in Pikmin.
  • in Pikmin 2,

it gets slightly nerfed to do 7.5 HP damage, but also buffed in that you can upgrade it to do a three-punch combo, with the third punch doing 18.75 HP damage.

  • in Pikmin 3, punching only does 3 HP damage.

unrelated note for raocow: if you want to try something silly, try holding both Down on the D-pad and X at base when you have Pikmin nearby

Would probably be something like methane or some sulfur compound - Helium is too nonreactive, not to mention scarce on your average rocky planet.
