You're making a lot of silly little mistakes that are making these levels out to be harder than they are. You could totally do those levels "legit".

Haimari should definitely have blocked flying, it's a newbie mistake, but I'm still going to echo raocow's sentiments :/

It's not really a mistake though... He has blocked flying in several other levels (biggest one being Bowser in the Dark Abyss first room, which I would totall just fly over after having died to it hundreds of times).

Anyway, what mistakes am I making exactly? I can't actually stop the Lakitu from killing the Spinies. He aims where you are, and since you have to be in the relative vicinity of a Spiny, he's going to kill at least one. I'm surprised Haimari actually gave you four to work with.

Either way, I've recorded a much less broken run (skips one thing in each half with the cape) and will upload it tomorrow. Hopefully I can get through the next stage in the meantime...

It took you a while to remember to use screen scrolling with the lotus+chuck for example, many little but crucial things like that. I'm with you on the lakitu-bombers though. I made the mistake of taking the midpoint route in Bowser stage left and had to deal with them combined with wind : |

Oh that? Screen scrolling is one of the last things I ever think about doing. But once I figure out that it's useful, I'll never forget. Or maybe, like raocow, I'm stubborn enough to try the same thing that never works over and over until I stumble upon a better solution?

(also, it sucks because I was going to fly over the second half of the second half of the level I started in this video, but now I can't)

Edit: Beating this next level didn't happen tonight. Overly long level + random enemies and random glitching through walls = lolno

I'm never going to complete this level, let alone the game. I don't care if I'm "wussing out" or what-the-fuck-ever, but there's no way I'm going to be able to do this with school and whatnot coming up in two days, so whatever. I'm done. Someone else pick it up if you really want, because frankly, I could stand to get rid of the save.

You know, you aren't obligated to update this regularly. If it's stressing you out, take a break. If you're really done for good that's fine, but at least give it a little more consideration. Perhaps all you need is to leave it alone for a few weeks.

Well what I did was savescummed through the level (read: used a few rewinds and three or four savestates). Even doing that took me 50 minutes, all of which will probably be uploaded because I'm evil.

Anyway, it's just that with school and whatnot, I'm not sure I'll be able to update it monthly, let alone daily or weekly. I wanted to get it done this week, but so much has happened that I just couldn't record.

So who's up for a Minecraft LP?! (seriously though, I'm considering it solely because I can just record whenever and actually get footage as opposed to this trainwreck-inducing game, and can last forever unlike Skyward Sword)

Minecraft... errr. :( It seems every LPer is actually doing a Minecraft LP and I do not get what people like about watching someone building things with blocks and digging through caves. But that is just my oppinion!

I play Minecraft, but I find it to be one of the most boring things possible to watch someone else play.

When people are talking about only digging through caves and building things, yeah it's boring, but the good Minecraft LPers actually talk to the viewers. This is something that I want to improve on, since I'm mostly a "hey look I just killed that guy" person. Of course, I will continue to play other games, but I don't have a bunch of money to buy games, so new LPs will get harder and harder to come by unless I only play ROM hacks. Minecraft is a nice, casual, infinitely-long LP that one can generally start watching at any time and not really miss anything.

So yeah.

Actually, I'm not sure I can even record Minecraft with 1.2.4's memory leaks. I'll probably have to wait until at least 1.3...

Yep, basically this. I even do not play it for myself. I am someone who really dislikes the game. I like if my games have some sort of plot, a story, that you can dive in, something that gives the game a purpose. Many open world games have some sort of story like Skyrim or Fallout. Even early games like Super Mario World, heck even Sonic has a background plot that gives me motivation to play the game.
Another factor that somehow is related to the aspect of an existing story is progress. You need to have some sort of progress in the game. Building a huge castle in Minecraft is not progress for me. Progress is beating a level in SMW, finishing a mission in Starcraft, reaching a new level in an RPG, solving missions in Skyrim etc.
Minecraft just has no real purpose in my eyes other than building things. And I personally rather delve into an adventure, taking the role of an ingame character/ the protagonist and actually experiencing some sort of story with him or her.
Again, this is just my point of view and I totally respect other oppinions on this topic since everyone does have different priorities when it comes to video games.

Oh wow I thought you were making an April Fools joke. Please don't play Minecraft! It's a fun game with friends, but it makes the most boring LPs ever. I have zero idea why anyone at all enjoys Minecraft LPs.

You mentioned Demon's Souls a while ago. Play Demon's souls! I think you were joking when you said you should play it, but it's a total cakewalk compared to Hyper VI or even Hyper V. I found it to be the perfect difficulty, and I deleted Hyper VI at world 6. It's also just a fantastic game overall, one of the few shining gems in modern gaming.

Like I said before, I watch LPs mostly for the commentator. The game they are playing is second to that. I want to become a better commentator, and if that means playing a game where I'm forced to make good commentary in order to not be boring, so be it.

As for progress, there is always progress in Minecraft. The only difference between completing a mission in Skyrim and completing a building or exploring a cave in Minecraft is that Skyrim tells you you're finished and you can't do anymore. In Minecraft, you can do more; you can always do more, and that's why it's so popular.

Anyway, I said I would continue to play other games, but Minecraft is a constant thing, and the only thing that would prevent me from getting content out 5-7 days a week is homework.

Why not just continue with Skyward Sword?

Skyward Sword can't last forever. I'm just thinking of what to do after. A2MT is who-knows-how-long away and I can't afford many new games, even if they are old games. Inevitably I will run out and honestly, I don't even have another idea for my next game. I want to do Baten Kaitos at some point, but that the editing needed to make that a good LP would not work with my current schedule.

Ometeotl's point is more 'Do what you actually do have now, and worry about the future when we get there'. I know that would have been mine if I had posted that (which I almost did)

Well yeah, I was always planning to finish Skyward Sword anyway. And I think I am over my "Hyper 6 Y U suck so much" mood, so I guess I'll try to record more over the weekend.

With this level contest we're doing, I could potentially run the levels alongside raocow as a sort of "comparison" between our ideas of "fun" "levels" ("other words in quotes").

Umm... so yeah, what do you guys think of that? Assuming I even have time to do anything in a few weeks of course. x_x

Go for it. I predict about five Talkhausers, including myself and you, will be LPing the contest, so it'll be fun to get all of the different opinions on the levels.

I think it's kinda silly to LP something that someone else is already doing, but I'm a "Game over Person/Commentary" type of viewer. If that's what you want to do go for it.

If you're not going to finish Hyper VI, can you email me the save state? I made it to about world 6 myself before I gave up because I figured I could just watch you beat the game and save me the hassle. But if I have to do it myself, I will. I want to see the end.

See, I'm the exact opposite. I won't watch an LP if I don't like the person commenting. The game being played has very little bearing on whether I watch it (although I will skip some games I don't care for in the interest of not spending all my time watching Youtube).

I fully intend to play A2MT when it comes out, and if there are people who won't watch it because raocow is playing it, then oh well. In the meantime, new Hyper 6 video either Friday or Saturday.
