The third through fifth rooms are insane. The fourth is much more manageable if you have a powerup. Good luck getting one past the third though... Fifth is all but impossible with a powerup, but you won't be getting there with one anyway. You'll see that tomorrow.

When you consider that the special world is optional, it seems fitting that the last real level is this brutal hard. Unless of course I'm interpreting the difficulty cue wrong and there's more, as this is as far as I got.
Also raocow, for what it's worth I thought "sand forest theatre" was a fun level.

Also, how does this sound as a rule for tools:
Since Haimari was nice enough to rate his levels using coins, how about "I can use as many rewinds as there are coins denoting difficulty"? Of course, up to a limit (I'll say 20?) and also that I would obviously try without tools first. If I do run out of rewinds, I have to accept my next death.
So this level could get 20 rewinds, or I could just put a checkpoint after the 3rd and maybe 4th area. I would want to do the entire fifth area and boss in one go, so it wouldn't feel too cheap...
I just sorta want to get this done before I start classes again... <_<

I think that's fair. Or like, since earlier coin amounts weren't such a big deal, but you did sometimes checkpoint in the future, something like 'a checkpoint per five blue coins' or something.

I'd say use saves at every new room. You might be able to do some of special world without saves though so give it a try if you're up to it.

Looking forward to the special world because I've already forgotten everything about it, except some of it is a lot easier than what you've already done and the last level is horrendous.

Yeah, the first level is a lot easier than most other five coin levels (looking at you, Iceberg-that-I-don't-even-remember-how-many-coins-you-were level), but still kind of suffers from that "learn everything through death" thing that a lot of the levels have had, and also that "misplaced midpoint" thing that a few recent levels have had.morsel/morceau wrote:Looking forward to the special world because I've already forgotten everything about it, except some of it is a lot easier than what you've already done and the last level is horrendous.
I also have that video edited, just waiting to finish my "harder-than-Nigel" ending picture. I guess I have more time now that my Japanese final has been taken (A+ btw *insert Captain Falcon "YESZ!"*) but with more school coming up soon, I think I'm just going to try to blast through the rest of it and do some easy games from here on out (like Skyward Sword... someone suggested Battletoads... I think Demon Souls might also work for that... <_<)

Also, I was finally able to finish my new picture. Reused the Skyward Sword buttons because I'm lazy and they look good anyway. But I thought this picture was appropriate for the 6th game in a really tough series for SOME REASON.
Edit: Actually, Cup (or someone else with Japanese language knowledge), today's level is "soshite sayounara" instead of the normal "soushite sayonara"? Is that particularly different?

meant to say this yesterday, but regarding what you were talking about with speed and jumping, the max x-velocity that mario can have while still being able to jump is 63. typically when being shot out of things (like pipes in the normal games and dk barrels in hacks) his x-velocity is 64, making him unable to jump until his speed is lowered. the problem came when he made u do a nearly frame perfect jump and if u jump on the exact frame you land your x-velocity remains constant. kind of a dick move

To be (slightly) fair, dick moves are kind of a staple of hard hacks. I mean, just in this level we had a blind "jump" (only semi-blind if you do it the random/dangerous way), the requirement to duck if you want to keep your powerup (although you can always backtrack to a point where you CAN duck), an area that you almost need that powerup to get past (no parenthetical help for this one), and that trap with the final barrel before the midpoint.
This one was relatively easy to figure out. I need to reduce my speed, so hold left. If I'm big, it's even easier because I still need to be ducking or I'll hit my head when I jump (although the ease of holding both down and left while concentrating on everything is questionable). It's learning through death, which isn't exactly a good way to design your level, but I guess it's better than Execution Hell with Randomness AKA Bowser in the Dark Abyss.
