Satori Komeiji's Mental Education is a Touhou game

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

I read some of the comments on the latest Hyper 6 video, and I should simply mention even people on Japanese message boards complain about the bullshit difficulty of the Hyper series. I think the tolerance gap (between East/West hack players) in general is more imagined than real, honestly.

If Haimari would consider bugfixing Hyper 6, I might do up a buglist as it and Hyper 5 are definitely candidates for my top 5 favorite hacks.

Funny thing is, if you go into it assuming that you'll die a lot you get a lot less frustrated :P

Ugh.

Left Tower. No.

I savescummed my way through the second half of the first half (savescum = checkpoints at reasonable places). I don't think I could get through it toolless if I played for a year straight, ignoring of course adverse effects such as hunger, sleeplessness, and insanity.

That second room itself is everything I've complained about this game combined into one room: Way too long, annoying hitbox detection, weird controls, autoscrolling where it doesn't need to, glitchy mechanics, and excessive/prophetic precision required. I can deal with almost anything with enough determination, but this is just stupid.

Get ready for mad me on Monday. Maybe even a few four letter words if I care enough to look through this crappy recording for them.

Also, I'm noticing hilarious parallels between this and raocow's S. Mario run. We both take a break within a day of each other, and then make posts about how we are going to/have use(d) tools in a level.

Finally, new video

The vertical shaft isn't so bad once you know how to deal with each segment. Word of advice though, when you see the
pinkish switch blocks
make sure to jump onto them from directly above as they have glitched corners.

No, it's still pretty awful. The only bad thing worst part thing that bothers me for no reason despite not being all that bad is that it gets easier as you go along, which means that the hardest stuff is at the beginning, which really deflates you when you've gone through high gravity room.

Oh, and the random glitching of the enemies towards the end. That's just wrong.

Either way, I'll eventually go back and do it normally, but again, probably not before the LP is over. I'd rather get it done before I graduate in a year and a half.

Also, I recorded for an hour today, got to the second room twice. I'll try again tomorrow but so far the second half is a bit more bearable. I have gone through with tools, so I know slightly what to expect, including those glitchy blocks.

If you're referring to the koopa-in-a-box, then yeah that's pretty bullshit. It's the many little details like that which frustrate me the most with this hack. Props for getting this far with commentary.

Yeah, I meant the twitchy falling enemies, but really the goomba only gave me trouble once.

Hope you guys like Zelda, because this stage is going to take me a LOOOOOOOOONG time to beat legit. I tried for an hour fifteen yesterday and another 45 today and I only got to the second room twice combined.

Also, wonderful, now I have a cold and can barely speak. I mean, I guess that gives me more time to play since now I can do it at any time without worrying about starting up Audacity and whatnot, but it still sucks.

Oh yeah, video.

Man, when that little troll started crying I almost felt kind of sorry for the little guy, haha. Though considering he seems to sleep in groose's bed instead of his own for comfort, that just askes more questions.

Too bad Petey didn't do the sidequest the other way, because man would that lead to you feeling even sorrier for him.

Aww really? Well it's not too big of a task to play through until that point again, especially considering I have about a week's worth or more of footage.

It's the funny outcome, as opposed to the sweet, sappy one. It's worth it.

Speaking of which, Hyper 6

I dunno how long it'll take me to get the next castle. The game expects a pixel perfect "jump" between an enemy and some spikes, and my controller isn't exactly the most precise thing ever. I might have to get a SNES to USB thing.

Man, you sure made that second half and that boss look like a chump. I suppose this is the net result of scrapping an entire four hours, haha! That first part still looked nutters, though

It's funny, I have one of those retrousb controllers but I ALWAYS use a keyboard for hard hacks. They're more fun to play on, but I think a good keyboard gives you more precision.

Also, that run of the vertical wind section was really impressive dude. You are definitely a master player! Props :D

Yeah man, good job on that, also spotting that obscured throw block :P Haimari can sure be a hilarious dick.

I have to say I really like that megaman music for the castles. Same thing for Bloody Tears and Mt Moon in the other levels.

See I'm the exact opposite. I doubt I could even play Pokémon with a keyboard, let along this.

And honestly, that vertical section was mostly luck. It was literally the first time I got past the saw right before the three Rexes, and of course I nearly lost it all on the first Hothead (how the hell did I get past that?). Coincidentally, the winning run of the second half was the first time I had gotten to the boss room in that recording. The cape really helps (obviously).
