congratulations! i honestly wasnt expecting you to do that in this LP, and i imagined if you did, it would end in a lot of angrycow and possibly losing to one of the last few battles. i guess expectations are a thing, but thank you for doing postgame/sidequests at all! still some more cleanup, but I think the worst is over

it is a bit silly the game expects you to put in as much effort here for the same reward as you got for "digging up the wrong chest on accident" yesterday

also! vengeance slips would've helped a lot, especially the last few rounds, but. you did it!

Seeing Nagi(s) again reminds me of something i thought about when playing the game. The whole Susano character arc is great because at first, he's introduced as Nagi's descendant who is burdened with falling far short of his heritage, then it turns out that he actually does live up to it, and then finally we learn that Nagi was actually the same way all along. It's a nice progression of context that completely reshapes how we see both characters as well as the legends they spawn.

Considering that the last Let's Play of this series I watched took nearly a decade to do the devil gates, an hour isn't bad at all

Having actually made it all the way through the video now, I'm a little disappointed that there was no "Knife to meet you" in that hurricane of puns

I'm glad raocow put his foot down on not doing all the animals and I wouldn't consider this a request or anything, but my heart still goes out to that one cat in Catcall Tower raocow never fed because he ran out of fish partway up. Maybe the girl who thinks about the tower will feed it herself.

The bestiary's description of Nagi seems a little generous - him being a great warrior hiding behind obfuscating stupidity seems to give him more credit than he might deserve? Sure, he cuts the last head of Orochi on his own, but everything else about him comes off as well-meaning but barely competent. That said, the Columbo reference there was completely unexpected but also perfect.

The Columbo reference might be my favourite thing in a raocow video. I even got hyped up hoping that is what it would be when raocow was trying to think of the name for a few seconds.

Fun Okami Facts!

The Ark of Yamato bears a great resemblance to the Ama no Iwafune, a heavenly boat said to be made of stone that was the vessel of the kami Nigihayahi no Mikoto, who helped facilitate the rise of Emperor Jimmu, grandson of Amaterasu and who unified Japan in ancient times.

Rainbow bridge, world tree, land of the gods - the way raocow said that, you'd think this game was about Norse mythology.

Especially since the fight doesn't really change. If the fight changed each time, it would be more justified, but not the same fight each time.

So I was like, thinking about it, and I really don't like how this game handles its themes of "destiny".

that dislike was really exacerbated by that tedious exchange involving Issun that basically amounted to Waka telling him "it's not about what -you- want to do with yourself; do what we want you to" and just throwing around some platitudes about resolve like it's supposed to convince a person to go about a job they had no part in choosing.

I think that is just Waka being a jerk. Issun is still doing what he chose to do the whole game and what he was already doing before Waka showed up and started pushing his buttons. For the most part, the highly-resolved characters in the game seem to be driven by fulfilling their own passions rather than conforming to expectations (Susano is the notable exception), and in some cases their chosen path directly contradicts their original destiny (the Kusa dog ex-pats).

Issun does struggle with family/community pressures regarding the celestial envoy role, but it seems to be more a case that he is embarrassed he ended up willfully following a path he so adamantly rejected for so long and doesn't want to admit it than that he is doing it because it is his prescribed destiny. I think the theme being pushed here is that Issun actually has much more resolve in fulfilling his chosen role than he outwardly shows, and Waka is poking through the facade he puts up to cover it.

God, Reset will never not turn me into a sobbing mess

The "helper" you kept summoning during the slot machine section was Queen Himiko. If you do things correctly during certain phases, you can also summon Nagi with Crescent, Rao (the real one) with Thunderstorm, and Oki, who is apparently so awesome he can show up as a spirit despite not being dead yet, with Blizzard.

Thank you for play!
