I think Narumi (the boss) has a lingering hitbox, and in your eagerness to push up above the collection line poor Reimu crashed directly into her. Her projectiles had all been wiped from the board, but her sprite and hitbox remained as the only thing to crash into in the very short window between the spell card ending and the start of the dialogue.
