I'm fairly certain that they used pre-rendered sprites, but I could be wrong.

Re: Star Fox (SNES) - Leave me alone, let me rock and roll
Given what pops in my head when I think Star Fox (that is, the furries), I wouldn't think that Star Fox the original would remind me of Rez of all things, but with this aesthetic it really is
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

God damn, you just helped me piece together my love of these two series. Why did I never make the connection between Rez and Star Fox before now? They even have similar reticules! Rez Infinite's Area X is just an All-Range Mode from SF64!

Re: Star Fox (SNES) - Leave me alone, let me rock and roll
Mentioned this in the YT comments for Episode 1, but I actually didn't like the SNES Star Fox game all that much. I found the game too difficult, too jarring, and it just wasn't something I could get into. As much as I enjoyed the characters and the Nintendo Power comic, it wasn't until Star Fox 64 that I actually fell in love with the gameplay. This was also years later and I was a more experienced gamer with regard to shooters, but it helped that visually SF64 was a lot easier on the eyes.
I mean, I played Stunt Race FX and Vortex, and they were neat games, especially the latter, but I think they kinda made me a little queasy? It's hard to recall, exactly, this was a looong time ago. I definitely recall getting a headache while playing SF emulated, back in the 00s, though.
But I'm really enjoying seeing raocow play through this, since I haven't touched it since.. well, the 00s! I pretty much had to cheat to beat it cause I just am NOT good at the original game, so seeing him dominate the levels has been nice.

they are not, they and the crystals are generated in-game from a set of vertexes and parameters stored in rom
snes can generate very basic 3d objects with weird trickey
that's why they appear in very simple scenes
Re: Star Fox (SNES) - Escape these caves of ice
I don't think this boss reappeared in Starfox ever again.
That's all I have to say.

That seems reasonable. Thanks for the correction.
You know, for today's level being an asteroid, it was very much not a rocky place.

Y'know, having grown up with Star Fox 64 but never having seen the original in any real depth until now, I have to confess--I really miss the hammy boss dialogue.

I remember one time my bro and I were trying to fight the Space Armada boss but we both felt some serious motion sickness. Fun times!
I haven't seen much of SF SNES, but one of my friends really likes SF64 and I've seen him play through it several times at his house.

Re: Star Fox (SNES) - The Necromancer keeps watch with his magic prism eyes.
I've always been curious how people can get motion sick from a video game, or TV. I can't remember the last time I was motion sick, so I can't empathize.

It was definitely an isolated case because I've never gotten motion sick from a game before or after that, that I can remember. I do get motion sick very easily in cars though.

Re: Star Fox (SNES) - The Necromancer keeps watch with his magic prism eyes.
It has to do with the movement you're perceiving that your body isn't registering, or something to that effect. I get motion sickness if I read too much in cars, for instance, so I can understand how someone dealing with view-bobbing or a lot of camera movement could get hit by it. I don't often get motion sickness from video games, it's rare, but I know that I can get headaches from them. Star Fox on the SNES used to definitely give me a headache if I played it too long, both on the actual SNES and on the PC when I emulated it back in like '02 or whenever.
On a similar note, the space backgrounds in certain Sonic 3D levels can trigger my agoraphobia. Stuff like Space Gadget in Sonic Adventure 2. Being suspended over a planetary orbit, or something like Egg Fleet in Sonic Heroes, can trigger it as well. I usually have a handle on it, but I can't truly stop the anxiety from creeping in when I play levels like those.

Re: Star Fox (SNES) - The Runes of Myth Draynor
Just all the talk about motion sickness and video games reminds me of Descent for PC. I never got motion sickness from it, but it's apparently a common complaint about it. It's still one of my favorite computer game franchises, despite the last official release being like 20 years ago. Yeah I'm old as dirt
